Nessa tags along without saying anything. She is in a mildly sullen mood, since Wren seems to be the only one who gets to show off her talents.

Vivian the Witch
Vivian is a small woman, with a kind face, discerning eyes, and a wild tangle of gray hair. She waves the party into her house as Gann heads to the back, searching for wood. He finds a neat pile and grabs an armful.

"Welcome, welcome," the woman says as four strangers and a wolfling come into her home. The hut is crowded, packed with all manner of projects the so-called-witch is working on. She's been embroidering, brewing, painting, sewing, curing, reading, pickling, baking, sketching... her pastimes, it seems, are many.

She claps thrice when Wren finishes her ditty, then goes to a shelf to collect earthenware mugs for the strong-smelling herbal tea that's boiling in a cauldron pot hanging over the fire. Ladling the liquid into the mugs, she presents steaming cups to everyone.

"So!" she says brightly, "you know my name and something about me, while I know but one of yours. So who is it that I've welcomed into my abode? Wren the river girl for true, but... I see a wayward Marchguard, a silent hunter who normally travels only with the furred companion who knows better than to pee in here, and this little unhappy beauty. My dear. Why so sullen?"

Nessa shrugs. "It's nothing, never mind. My name is Nessa by the way. Pleased to make your acquaintance." She glances around the hut, not hiding her curiosity at all. "I was about to say something about showing up at an inopportune time, but it seems you are very busy no matter what. Or do you maybe know a spell that adds hours to your day?"

Gann plonks down log after log near the fire, trying not to disturb the conversation and doing only a mediocre job of it. He upends the largest of them and takes a seat on it, picking up a poker and setting to work tending the flames.

For a moment his ears perk up, thinking Nessa might finally be opening up. He huffs a bit to himself when she deflects the attention away.

"That," Vivian says with a grin, "is a magic I have not yet mastered, Miss Nessa!"

She then raises an eyebrow to Gann and Sable, as well at the wolfling.

When they are done with introductions, the woman gestures for the herbal tea-drinkers to sit. It's not easily to find a clear spot, but Vivian continues regardless. "So why have you come? Ingrid is a gentle soul. Is she alright?"

Wren smiles wryly and says, "Oh I'd say she's doing more than all right, Vivian. We arranged for her to finally make a connection with that hunky blacksmith she'd been pining over. I have high hopes!" She beams with pride at her matchmaking, and continues. "But we come to you for matters not of love, but of death. There is a dragon terrorizing the countryside, we hear. We hoped you could give us some information about it. We have also heard other troubling rumors, about a missing Brother, some troubling fey activities, and goblins! Could you help?"

Sable uncomfortably tries to scrunch onto a stool that looks like one of Vivian's nascent attempts at woodcarving. He is about to finish sipping his herbal tea when Kittridge, now cooled off, decides to jump on his lap instead. The snug inside ends up with Kitt's happily wagging tail thumping against Gann and a little drool dripping off his tongue onto Nessa's hem. The man can only solemnly nod at Wren's report about Ingrid and Warwick. There was quite a lot for them to do out here, including their original mission of finding the missing caravan and the request to check in with the miners.

Finding herself a place to sit somewhere amongst all the stuff, Nessa does not actually mind the mess all that much. She quietly sips her tea, not her favorite beverage, but certainly more palatable than a certain ale she has had recently.

"Speaking of the dragon, we have seen its handiwork on full display not too far from here. That farmstead down the path was torn apart rather thoroughly." She mentions, almost casually, while staring deep in to her teacup. She keeps looking at it, as if some hidden truth might be revealed at its bottom.

Gann pets the dog, content with the direction the others are taking the conversation.

"Oh!" Vivian exclaims at Wren's news, "and how did you do that?! The poor girl's mortified of her own shadow, let alone a conversation with that stone wall of a blacksmith! She's been wringing her hands over him for months now!"

When the dragon comes up, the old woman squints one eye, looking more like the frightful witch some of the townsfolk described. "A fearsome beast, for true. Now I don't know anything about a Brother gone missing, but chances are good as not the dragon ate him if he was wandering outside the town walls."

Drinking deeply from her own tea, as though soothing her nerves, she goes on. "The people of Brandonsford are scared. Some of them have died, and now they're afraid to walk their paths, cut their wood, fish the river and more. And... I too have seen evidence of some fae goings on in the woods lately, and I don't mean just the mischievous nixies in my pond. I mean elves and goblins. And a giant, north of here. Big one. I don't know what any of that might have to do with the dragon, but it could be they're connected in some way."

Taking a moment to eye the party, looking from Nessa to Gann, from Wren to Sable and his wolf, she then asks, "What have we here, then? Am I looking at some would-be dragon-slayers?"

Nessa chuckles. "Oh we did run in to a pesky little fae, I think it was a goblin, right? Funny little fellow that one. Had a big thirst, but little sense for taste. As for slaying the dragon, I am not sure how anyone would do that. Personally I prefer myself the way I am right now. Not eaten by a dragon that is."

"We’re just trying to help folks out. And for now that means finding this Brother who wandered off up the trail to the tomb. You live outside the walls, what makes you so sure anyone wandering would be eaten while you’re doing fine so close to that farm it tore up?"
