Skyscrapers & ... Groundscrapers? (RP)

Checking her scanner, she says, "What?! No." She then goes through the very annoying trouble of taking the scans again, even though the muscles in her arms are burning by now. Finally, she reads the second set of scans and sits back, shaking her head. "This... this is so much more than I ever would have guessed."

She turns to Arthur and Herman and says, "Do you know what this means‽ The breaks... they are bubbles of reality from another solar system! Inside these breaks shines the light of another sun!"

She sits there, stunned. She stammers, "I'm not sure of all the implications here. But I think these breaks are much more significant events than anyone previously thought. I will have to write this up and publish it as soon as possible... I must get more readings... We need to get out there!!"

She turns and looks at them, almost desperate now. "A few floors down...there was a whole window blown out. We could go out there! Couldn't we? Or we could ascend to the roof... I wouldn't want to try to go out on the roof, but we could at least observe from he safety of the stairwell door..."

"I like the roof," Arthur says.

Fiona nods and says, "Up we go!" She begins the onerous work of climbing.
May 10, 2025 9:58 am
The climb to the roof is long and onerous. Fortunately the beanstalk has broken through the elevator car and continues up the shaft, though it is getting thinner and thinner as you approach the top.

The roof appears not as dangerous as it could have been. The 45° angle still makes it very hard to move around on when you exit the door, but at least falling off is not a certainty if you slip. Most of the lower portion is embedded in the dark rock and hillside caves you have seen before.

To one side the hillside itself is visible, rolling hills of green and a bright blue sky... or mostly blue, there is a slightly different tint to it, and the sun looks... wrong.

There is blood on the 'ground' sizzling slightly in the sunlight. It appears that something from in the dark caves launched an attack through the whole the building punched between there and the bright world above. You don't see any signs of fighting, though.

What do you do?

Fiona crawls out of the elevator shaft and once again gasps. She fumbles with her hands but manages to get her scanner and begins scamming everything; the air, the sunlight, and the surroundings. She scans the blood and wonders who fought whom. Are there any flying creatures in view?

- Fiona -

You see no flying creatures, or creatures of any sort. On the hard stone of the building roof you can not see any footprints, but then the creatures down below did not leave much trace, and, if Arthur is to be believed, the people up above fly.

What does your scanner say? About the blood, but also: does what you read here correlate with the hints you got through the bullet holes?

What do you do?

Fiona studies her scanner and then turns to the others and says, "These readings are weird. So, first of all, the air here, and the sunlight, do not correspond to anything on our planet. This break is like a bubble from another planet, or another reality, transposed onto ours. Second, this blood is from a chimera--a human that has been hybridized from several different sources, some recognizable, some very alien indeed. What is going on here?"

She remembers something and adds, "And we should head all the way back down soon, so I can check on the experimental subjects victims we are trying to save."

OOC:
Then we can walk out, off the roof into the "landscape"? And if we can then lets see what we can see.

An idea occurs to Fiona and she adjusts her scanner. Once again, she sweeps the environment. Can the scanner determine where the center of the break is from here?
OOC:
And isn't the center of the break where we are supposed to put C4 if we want to close it? Or is that someone else's job?
May 11, 2025 3:32 pm
- Fiona -

The wide-open-spaces confuse your scanner, you can't tell if there is a 'center' up here, but it might be down in the caves... or up in the hills?

What do you do?

Fiona mutters and puts away the scanner. She shrugs and says, "You wanna go into the cave? Sure, let's do it. But we gotta get back and check on the experiment soon too."

OOC:
Ok then Herman can stop squirming. Is there anything to look at that's not in a (probably dangerous) cave? If there is that's where Herman will go first. Otherwise I guess its the cave(s?)

- Herman -

You could head into the dark caves again, but there are also rolling green hills to the topside of the building, this is likely where Arthur reported seeing his butterfly-winged people. You will have to jump and climb to get from the edge of the roof onto the 'grass', the building has smashed though them and left an ugly scar in the turf.

As you look at them you have to reconsider the term 'green', you don't know what color it is, but something in the back of your mind assures it is not any shade of green you have ever seen.

I will head for the green for sure. I can do a little climbing if I have to. Lets say hello to a butterfly. Wait til mom hears I met a butterfly dude.

- Herman -

There is a small valley, down into the dark, where the building meets the hillside. You will need to hop down to the ground, but that should not be a challenge. Getting back up to the building, up the smooth glass surface, may be more of a challenge, but it looks like it would be only a few feet above your head, so, working together, it should not be hard.

Herman is going to the check out the valley and whatever is beyond it, to look around for butterfly people or whatever else he can see not in a cave. I don't know about the rest of you all but I am gonna look for the flying guys. I am sick of caves

The 'valley' is only a few meters wide, where the building sliced through the loam of hillside. If you look close you can just see a seam where the reality of the building meets the reality of the hill, there is a line that looks a bit like it contains a concrete street, far below, soil trickles through slowly, making it bigger is probably not a good idea.

The 'grassy' hill climbs up above you, you can't see much from down here.

Arthur jumps to the grass and starts climbing, his blade feet should dig into the soil nicely.
