Arthur jumps to the grass and starts climbing, his blade feet should dig into the soil nicely.

Somewhat confused about he sudden change of direction, Fiona follows, stopping immediately to take soil samples and search for insects, worms, and other tiny signs of life in the soil.

Reaching the top of the hill you see the landscape around you. There are no trees or plants larger than the grass, but there are some strange buildings in the distance. You think you see a brief hint of 'people' flitting between those buildings... they must be people, if they were butterflies that would make the buildings tiny, and much closer, right?

What do you do?

Despite his prosthetics, Arthur is fit and quick and reaches the crest of the hill well before you.

When you catch up there is no sign of 'butterfly dudes'. In the distance is a derelict old city, mouldering buildings decaying in the harsh sunlight.

What do you do?

Beneath the grass, the soils seems... sterile? Yes, that is the word that comes to mind. There are no insects or worms, and if you check, no signs of smaller organisms either —though it will take a while still to confirm the lack of bacteria, and that only really means your chosen growth medium(s) did not show results.

What do you do?

Fiona frowns, puzzled. How...how can grass grow without the organic matter produced by dead creatures, and the worms to aerate it? How...puzzling. So she decides to take a sample of the grass itself, trying to remove a small chunk of top soil with it, so that she can have the roots as well. She works hard not to touch it and transfer her own bacteria, but she knows she' standing here breathing on it, so this is all very imperfect. Still, she double bags the sample, just in case.

Decaying buildings are just slightly better than caves. sigh. I guess I am headed to the buildings if it looks feasible and by feasible I mean if it looks like less than a five minute walk. Arthur, I would like to checkout the buildings.
