Prelude - Genji, Hakusa, Kenji

Hakusa

A small village, that's what Hakusa could infer as he scanned the surroundings, both to try to spot his target, and also to be wary of what this place was and why the yurei had elected to come here. He counted no more than a handful of houses, at least three were lit through their windows, the rest were harder to make out in the darkness. Near the shack sat the nearest house, unlit. The fisherman's own house perhaps? Hakusa stepped through the doorway, for there was no door to the shack.

Hakusa finds Laquered Wazao and a box of Kebari?

If so 13 is assosciated with Kitsune and the rod may be either one of Wisdom or Trickery. Either one sounds like a fun fishing rod.

Hakusa

Had Hakusa's sense of smell not been as impaired by his condition, he would have caught a whiff of the discoloured catch that filled two baskets in the shack. The fish was no longer fresh, that much was certain, but they had not yet begun to rot. What was unnerving was their colour, for their dull scales and fins, even their eyes, had turned a dark red. And in the slimy gleam of their wetness they looked as if they were all covered in a layer of thin blood.

A small movement caught Hakusa's eye, one of the fishes still twitched a little, and it was the only one with an unstrung kebari still embedded in its mouth, its hook appearing to be unnaturally sharp. Removing it immediately returned the fish to its death.

From outside came the noise of some commotion. Was that the undead he was chasing?
