For a couple of years running now, I've had a gaming resolution to run a Dungeon Crawl Classics game that wasn't just a funnel. Funnels are a ball, but a big chunk of what makes DCC so special doesn't come on-stage until the characters hit first level. So last February I fired up the classic Harley Stroh module, Doom of the Savage Kings, and invited @Len , @KCC , @Ciriaco and @Darkstar8 to the game.
Despite the fact that it's just a sixteen page adventure (with three full-page maps!), it took us until today to complete it. More than 14 months, over 1500 in-character posts, about 77 GP pages of gaming goodness. Finishing a game, as many here know, is no easy thing, so kudos to my players for sticking it out when they thought they were probably signing up for something that would last half as long as it did.
All that said, this was one of my very favorite PbP experiences ever, and I've been doing this a long time. The cleric who was terrified of his god (Aldric), the always-bold and mouthy wizard (Anora the Blue), the murderous and loveable thief (Dufgal), and the sneering, human-disparaging elf (Tyravasiel-Llir) -- this was an incredible cast of characters from the get-go. They only got better and more interesting as the game progressed, which made it all the more dramatic and painful when most of them died rather suddenly.
Fantastic game, you four, and here's to more like it!
