About the System
The Ashlands: MERCs setting is based in a post-apocalyptic world where players take on the roles of mercenaries (MERCs) navigating a hostile environment filled with various dangers, including harsh landscapes, rival factions, and powerful creatures. The game offers a semi-lethal experience, where characters start with multiple lives but can risk more for greater rewards. Luck Points, split between Good and Bad, play a central role in determining outcomes, offering opportunities for rerolls or more significant game-altering effects. The system is centered around a combination of characteristic tests, skill upgrades, and narrative-driven mechanics where MERCs must strategically utilize their resources, including their living spaces and backgrounds, to survive. The primary hook of Ashlands: MERCs revolves around balancing survival and success through tactical gameplay while navigating both in-game threats and player-character development. If you're familiar with d100 systems like FFG's Only War or Delta Green, Ashlands MERCs will not be that different from what you're used to.
The current rulebook is free on drivethrurpg!

In the lawless and volatile region of the Souther Confederation, a Newland Company has recruited a group of hardened MERCs to defend their critical desalination and geo-infernal power plant from the aggressive Souther Junta forces. As these mercenaries, you will patrol the lifeline of the region — a pipeline carrying precious desalinated water — thwarting sabotage and intimidation from local upstarts. Your skills will be tested as you launch covert operations, conducting deniable strikes against enemies seeking to destroy or seize control of the plant for their own gain. As contractors, you must carefully balance combat missions with resource management, knowing that every choice you make could mean the difference between fortune or ruin in the unforgiving Ashlands.
