Ashlands MERCs (0.89 Slopjob update)

Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.

OpenAshlands MERCsPublic5 / weekDelta
This is a game about pseudo-professional mercenaries in an oligarchic post-apocalypse world (emphasis on post). The world of Ashlands, though science-fiction, is also retro-futuristic, with VHS tapes, access to the internet by hard connection only, brick-like cell phones, but in contrast to that also has androids, laser/plasma/drones/cybernetics, human-animal hybrids (Chimera) etc. And also fantasy elements such as demonic pacts, blessed sanctified weaponry, zombies, etc. If you're familiar with Shadowrun it shares a lot in common with that universe. That said, life in most places looks not all that different from a urban city in post 1980's America. People go to office jobs, take the bus to work, go out to restaurants, bars, movie theaters, watch the news, drive cars, post ads online, etc.

Please read the recruitment thread linked below.

Frequency is actually 1 post per day during the regular week, weekends off.

About the System
The Ashlands: MERCs setting is based in a post-apocalyptic world where players take on the roles of mercenaries (MERCs) navigating a hostile environment filled with various dangers, including harsh landscapes, rival factions, and powerful creatures. The game offers a semi-lethal experience, where characters start with multiple lives but can risk more for greater rewards. Luck Points, split between Good and Bad, play a central role in determining outcomes, offering opportunities for rerolls or more significant game-altering effects. The system is centered around a combination of characteristic tests, skill upgrades, and narrative-driven mechanics where MERCs must strategically utilize their resources, including their living spaces and backgrounds, to survive. The primary hook of Ashlands: MERCs revolves around balancing survival and success through tactical gameplay while navigating both in-game threats and player-character development. If you're familiar with d100 systems like FFG's Only War or Delta Green, Ashlands MERCs will not be that different from what you're used to.

The current rulebook is free on drivethrurpg!

In the lawless and volatile region of the Souther Confederation, a Newland Company has recruited a group of hardened MERCs to defend their critical desalination and geo-infernal power plant from the aggressive Souther Junta forces. As these mercenaries, you will patrol the lifeline of the region — a pipeline carrying precious desalinated water — thwarting sabotage and intimidation from local upstarts. Your skills will be tested as you launch covert operations, conducting deniable strikes against enemies seeking to destroy or seize control of the plant for their own gain. As contractors, you must carefully balance combat missions with resource management, knowing that every choice you make could mean the difference between fortune or ruin in the unforgiving Ashlands.

I have been looking for a d100 game to play, and I really like the premise and sounds a fun setting.

Going to have a quick Look over the rule set and get back on here.

Setting wise it has a lot in common with Shadowrun. With humans, devils, Chimera (basically furries) and androids as playable races.

I wish it was slower, since the premise sounds delightful; this site needs more post-apocalyptic games! :D Alas, daily posting is beyond me. Are you planning to have it be private or public? I'd be interested in reading, if you and the players are alright with it!

I'm pretty new so I don't see any reason to not make it public. I could maybe set it to 5 posts/week, weekends free if that would work for you.

Afraid 3 posts/week is my best, and even that I sometimes fail, so I wouldn't want to slow you down. :D Unless you're open to a character who sits on the base and occasionally pops up with a random advice like a tutorial NPC wise coordinator! ..But I'll happily cheer on from the sidelines too. XD

Heyo! I'm super interested in this game! First time picking up MERCs, but i'm pretty used to the system idea from Warhammer Fantasy. If you would have me, i'd love to get my feet wet with a Devilkin sharpshooter! The posting frequency is no issue for me.

Any posting rate is fine with me, and I do prefer fastest as possible. Lots of new stuff to look over.

Are you still looking it over, or do you have a concept forming?

I was having a good read, but I was given an invite to another game I had enquired about earlier.

Sorry will have to withdraw my expression.

I haven't decided what type of mercenary I would like. Seems the rules cover it all. If you need someone to fill then I'm good. :)

Assuming a long enough life time and investment of xp, it's possible to eventually come to being able to branch out into everything. Though I make no such promises of a game that runs THAT long lol.
