Any plot works... Never played so I have no expectations.

I have a Pilot created using COMP/CON if that helps. (Pilot Share Code: EMHR4W) Her background may change based on the setting.

COMP/CON use is not a requirement.

Anyhow. Even a stint in Mech school to learn the ropes is welcome.

Solo, small group... totally up to GM

How are you intending to want to play? IMO play by post is one of the worst formats for newbies to learn how to play Lancer. The mech combat very much needs a battlemap.

That would be up to the GM as I am sure they would have an idea how to provide that.

I'm willing to spend $ for a service or program, if needed, that can facilitate shared mapping

That would be unnecessary as there are plenty of free virtual tabletops that can do all of that. The thing you'll want to look for is scheduling a group for play over voice.

I figured there would be but if the GM used a pay service I wouldn't be against subscribing to it myself.

If I find a GM willing to take me under their wing and show me the ropes, I'd definitely work with them to schedule voice play.

Hopping in to say you can absolutely use battlemaps in PBP. Different DMs do it differenttly.

Theres On the fly battlemaps where you can embbed in the post.
Myself and others for pathfinder uses google Slides and pkayers move themselves.
You can even jut have a roll 20 game people can hop into to move.

I however will say I want to run Lancer first in person/vpice before trying again to run pbp, thiugh thats more as I know why irl group so they'l help me learn how to run it.

So I may try running it here again, but not for a longwhile.

I'd patiently wait for that! But in the meantime I'll do my best to learn the game through someone else, if possible.

I can re-run this game if we get two more players interested.

What I did back then was
[ +- ] combat on the map
using roll20 and not very exciting narrative we stopped at. I could probably try to improve narrative this time

And a warning - I only have rules dated 2019 and don't plan to read any expansion, updates, or whatever.

The specifics of that game suits my needs... my expectations are low game wise as i am more interested in learning the game mechanics.

That map looks great!

I just checked and I do have a roll20 account (got the account back in 2016 but never used it) if players are required to use it.

Luckily the 2019 Core Book is the one I am currently reading.

I'm in if this takes off!

When I played Lancer on another forum, our GM made use of Owlbear Rodeo to present maps. It went quite well without any voice calling or scheduling involvement :)

That's funny... I already have an Owlbear account I don't ever remember using too!

I'm sure DrGwen would be interested as she applied for the Lancer game that just filled up yesterday and didn't get picked.

Glad to see another game going up. I hope you can fill it up too!

GreyWord,

I just got accepted into a game but if there is interest here and you are still offering I'd love to go through 'Mech School' with you as well. Will take some of the burden off of Falconloft of teaching a Noob the ropes and help me learn the system faster.
Apr 15, 2025 5:59 pm
Thanks for tagging me, @Balthazar! And yes, I'd like to learn the system too. I tried to play in another pbp game of Lancer recently, but it collapsed almost immediately. I have all the relevant accounts. So, let me know, @GreyWord , and thanks!

@Drgwen @Balthazar I've set up a game and invited two of you, that will be enough for this very extra short game aiming to refresh my knowledge of rules and teach you some. Jump in and let's roll!

Anyone else want to be part of this ride? Let me know still not too late to join
Apr 17, 2025 3:23 pm
I would love to join. Lancer has been a white whale for me. I was able to join a game here, but it fizzled out after I think one round of combat, so I am still a bit shaky on the mechanics.

Invite sent. game link you will need to create your pilot in https://compcon.app/ but I guess you have done that once already
