Chapter 1.2 - School + Distress

Another class starts, the class's homeroom teacherS await the students inside, seemingly for an announcement (wait, another one??).

Ruby Tojo

As everyone is sited, Ruby comes dancing inside the class, wearing a vintage dark sea-green silk shirt and a crimson short skirt, with orange-lensed sunglasses, quite the disco look...

With her though, she brings an unknown girl and a boy with her, "Hello, everyone! We'd like to present you your new colleagues! Be nice with them, eh?"

"Now, go on, introduce yourselves!"

Raiga Kongou

First the boy introduces himself: "Huh... Hello." He says, shortly.

The boy is very tall and broad-shouldered, with a clear strong physique that his uniform couldn't hide. He seemed overtly quiet though.

He curtly dashes to a seat on the back of the classroom.

Mio Suzuki

Then came the other girl, she seemed very excited, but also somewhat shy, but eager-looking. "Hi there, everyone one! I'm Mio Suzuki, nice to meetcha! I like to go out with my friends on shopping and to go to nice cafés! I also like watching doramas and baseball on TV!!"

Despite her eagerness, absolutely no one (on the NPCs side, at least) seemed intrigued, she was awfully... Normal... The class's succubus could be heard calling her a 'normie' under her breath.

After introducing herself, she jigs to a seat, incidentally one inside the circle of the girls (that would be you!)

"Hello there!" She says to them, "Can I sit in here?? I hope we can be friends!"

She finally sits, giving looks at all her new colleagues.

At one point, her gaze locks in on Ibuki: "Heeeh! What are those buns on your head? They look cute!"

As class starts, she tries to pay attention to the preliminary classes, but is suddenly surprised by the appearing of Hibana! (The way she appears is up to her)

"Gah!! W-what is that?? A moth?? Waa!! S-some kind of puppet??" She seems weirdly disturbed at the fairy's appearance.

Chapter 1.2 - School + Distress

A violet spark appears, and paf!—purple flames swirl about a candleflame, and within that second, Hibana is dressed for school.

And that unoccupied seat is occupied now.

"I am not a moth—though now that I say the word aloud, I recall a simile, ‘like moths to a flame.’ If moths come to me, I might shriek loudly." She sits at the edge of the desk that is no longer hers, and says to the new girl, "I am Hibana." She does not want to fight over the desk that was totally hers until this mysterious new girl showed up, but she only needs the edge, which doesn’t take up much space, so sharing may be a non-issue.

Hibana tries to smile cutely since giant girls seem to like her cuteness.

Hanami watches Raiga with a sense of curiosity and perhaps a little interest. Seems too quiet. But he's incredibly tall and muscular. He could carry me around effortlessly if he wanted to. Kind of like her.

Did she have a type...? No, that can't be.

"Sure, knock yourself out." Hanami gestures to the open seat. "I should warn you, Kanzaki, our class isn't exactly normal. If the teachers start fighting, don't panic. They'll tucker themselves out pretty fast." She doesn't realize she got Suzuki's name wrong. The girl's overly mundane aura was too strong for Hanami to remember her name correctly.

Well, who would've guessed who else is in the back of the classroom, usually preferring not to be in view of a big crowd.

Lín Jìng gives the newbie an evaluating look, and seems very slightly disappointed, but not entirely discouraged.

Upon Mio's introduction Ibuki is quickly realising having grown up in a temple she is as out of place in the human world as she is in the world of monsters and magic, to Ibuki Mio seems like a genuine JK a real popular high school girl. In a school where everyone is eccentric her normalcy is somehow what stands out the most and her aura is such that Ibuki cannot look directly at her as she can practically see her glowing

"ahem yes it is nice to meet you" Ibuki says still avoiding eye contact, she thinks she understands a little of how kanako feels wanting to staying in gloomy corners away from the light of modern society

Mio Suzuki

"H-Hibana?" She repeats, still shocked, but disarmed by the smile. "I see... Uh..." She's in lack of words, her eyes wandering around, seeking for something to save her from this embarrassment. Her eyes fall on Hanami, or better, her witch hat! "Wah??! Gwahahahah!!!" She falls in laugher, "Oh, I see... You're having some kind of very late (or early) Halloween party!! Right?!"

Raiga Kongou

On the meanwhile, the new student reaches his desired seat. Incidentally, it's just next to Lin Ling's. "Excuse me. May I sit in here?" He asks with his deep voice, his intense amber eyes drilling on hers, even though his expression was placid.

Diverting his gaze, he adds: "I'm Raiga, by the way... Raiga Kongou..."

Kurumu Kurono

On the meanwhile, Kurumu was giving lecturing, whimsical and cheerful as always. She touches on the subject of the school: "Heh, as you all know, this is a school for monsters! It's purpose is to educate us into living amidst human society, hoping for coexistence. Because that haven't been achieved yet, this school is kept in an alternate dimension, separated from the outside world by a powerful barrier, which makes it invisible."

"And should any human be found among our school grounds... We shall promptly kill him!" He says, lightly.

"Gee... They still make you say that cheesy crap??" Mizore mumbles, on her nap.

"Heheh... Ok, not exactly killing... Mostly doing away with them, as its costumery for one's race..." She stops, the implications of that (if applied to her) coming fast on her mind, "Eh, I-I mean, uh... which mostly amounts to killing, of course!" She says, waving her hands and with a slight blush.

"Either way, let me know if you find any human around! Adults should take care of these things!" She concludes with a wink.

Mio Suzuki

Amidst the lecture, Mio can be seen visibly sweating and shaking, even though the temperatures were very mild. If inquired about, she'll just say, with a hint of nervousness: "Uh?? I-It's nothing... I'm just feeling a bit sick... P-please don't mind it!"

From her position in the back of the middle row, the dragon girl observes the newcomers. The boy might be a formidable fighter, and the girl does have some promise. She is currently most occupied with Ruby, whose weakness she now knows and who she wants to catch alone at some point to persuade and bribe into being the Many Hats Princess.

She keeps enough awareness and decorum to bow and greet the new students politely. Raiga Kongou and Mio Suzuki.

The seat directly to Sumeryu's left has been Hibana's. Where the dragon girl could be right next to the cutest flame faerie. And also protect her from stuff. Yeah. That. But the new girl sits there.

"I am Himeji Sumeryu," she says to Mio after watching the exchange, her voice a sonorous alto.

"A pleasure to meet you, Suzuki Mio-san."

Sumeryu maintains her gorgeous and princely demeanor but is of course immediately suspicious. She's read enough manga to know dramatic timing when she sees it. Clearly, Mio Suzuki is human, and Sumeryu will get to the bottom of it! And then maybe protect her as Mundane Princess. She does meet the appearance standard, if not others.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Lín Jìng," she says quietly, without moving her gaze away from the talking teacher. Her accent certainly does not seem local.

Ibuki being the person she is would normally notice Mio's discomfort however she is too busy glaring daggers from across the room at Kurumu to pay attention elsewhere

Ibuki however does maintain composure and restricts herself to a mere disapproving gaze

"Eh? No, you moron. I'm a witch. We tend to wear our hats when among our own kind and other yokai, though it's by no means a universal rule." Hanami responds haughtily, turning her nose up at Suzuki.

She's only half-listening to the lecture, since she already knows about this, but she speaks up since she's been curious about the effectiveness of the school's methods. "Mizore, Kurumu. If this school wants coexistence between humans and monsterkind one day, isn't it counterproductive to kill any human that manages to slip in?"

She leans over to place her hand on Suzuki's forehead when she overhears her saying she's 'a little sick'. "Moron, you're way too hot. Not to mention you're sweating like crazy. Let me take care of you before anyone else catches it."

Well this is an odd situation. Not really the kind of opportunity I wanted - too much of a bruiser type. Oh, why can't they all be lithe and pretty like Ao-chan, or at least like the prince Riki-chan's new looks are based on? Buuut, not like there are many options. And even if I think he's a bit meh, I can still use him to look cool if I play my cards right. If.

Lín Jìng arranges her pens and pencils in a neat row, and then stares at the cover of her workbooks, which depicts a Higurashi scene.

"From what I have seen so far productivity is not this academy's greatest strength Hanami" Ibuki sounds rather exasperated for someone who has been only been here for about 2 days

Now noticing Mio's condition thanks to Hanami Ibuki will now become concerned "You do seem rather pale, would you like me to alert the school nurse... assuming she isn't already listening in?" Ibuki will look around as if she expects a certain someone to appear from the ceiling or out from the floorboards

Mio Suzuki

The girl seems suddenly very aware of Sumeryu's height, cowering away from her greeting.

She flinches at the witch's cussing and, as Hanami extends her hand to check her temperature, she yanks herself back, allowing only an instant of contact. "D-don't! Get off me! I'm fine..."

At the idea that someone was watching her, Mio looks everywhere, nervous. Fortunately for her, the nurse wasn't doing it this time... I maybe she just isn't revealing herself yet.

The new boy frowns at Lin Jing's strange demeanor, but don't pay much heed, siting in his place and staying quiet during the entirety of class, not even looking aside.

As classes end though, he quickly stands, leaves the classroom, and sets off somewhere.

The new girl Mio too, leaves as soon as she can. Anyone can see her wandering aimlessly through the school's halls, as if lost, bumping on people and then running away from them, to their confusion.

Kurumu Kurono

Kurumu happily skips closer to Hanami, whispering on her ear: "That's just an old joke, heheheh... It's used to scare away any would be human infiltrated in here, so we can catch them more easily! Uh... I don't think it ever worked though..."

New Rikishi

As break starts, Katsuya and Aika hang up with the girls, and once outside, Rikishi comes too, doing the standard procedure, which he uses to whisper on her ear: "Lin Jing-san, who's that new gal on your class?? She's cute! Uh... She seems rather lost too, you should call her to hang up with us!" He says, winking and without a shred of shame.

Hanami pulls her hand back, initially surprised before shifting to annoyance. "Hmph, alright. If it gets worse, don't come crying to me." Despite her words, she glances at Suzuki a few times throughout class, keeping an eye on her condition.

"Ah! Not so close!" Hanami nearly leaps away from Kurumu. "A joke...? I see. Though, how would a human even infiltrate in the first place? You'd have to be pretty negligent to not notice..." She trails off, realizing that the staff would absolutely be that negligent. "Never mind, I can see how it'd happen."

During break, she absentmindedly spins her wand in one hand. She seems mildly exasperated when she notices Rikishi's presence, but she just ignores him and focuses on the others. "What do you think of the new students?" She asks anyone who might care to answer.

Ibuki will accept that Mio just seems to need some space and will not go and alert Ruby, besides prolonged exposure to Ruby Tojo on one's first day could result in the wrong impressions being formed about this academy "Well do feel free to ask if you require any help I too am still getting used to things here so I understand how adjusting may be difficult"

Lín Jìng jokingly grabs Rikishi by the necktie and tugs him closer, causing a couple of Rikishi-admirers behind to stare daggers at her. Seems like she can act more daringly with someone more familiar.

"I haven't been paying attention to her."

She releases the tie.

During the break, Sumeryu answers Hanami, lacking all subtlety as is her wont. "They are so unremarkable as to be suspicious, considering how colorful our class is."

Speaking of which, there's Mio now, wandering around looking lost. "Suzuki-san!" she calls after the normal girl. Definitely a human girl. Has to be. Sumeryu will discover this. "What are you looking for? Perhaps I can help."

I need to meditate more my discipline has been lacking..." ibuki's desk seems to be turning more purple in response to her gloomy mindset

"Suspicious? Haha! It's not like they're secret spies or anything." Hanami waves off Sumeryu's assessment. "Though I get what you mean. I think they just need time to come out of their shell. Especially the boy. He didn't even say his name when introducing himself..." She crosses her arms.

She looks at Ibuki. "Hmph. That's the point, right? Get it out of your system now so you can integrate into human society properly once you leave this academy. You won't do yourself any favors by trying to hold yourself back."

"Meh, he seems to be leaning into the strong silent type, even more so than your dragon prince. Does not look like talking is his forte. Who knows, maybe his forte is being locked for seven minutes in heaven. Then again, a bit crude for that. Then again then other again," she grows increasingly annoyed with each next word, "It's not like there is a lot of fish in this pond. I've been told this is an equal opportunity institution, but the opportunity is most certainly not equal: dragon prince over there is living the life, while and I had to make my own opportunities so far," she waves exasperatedly in Rikishi's direction, calming down. "The hype about this place being full of fanciable bishies? Wildly exagerrated," she produces a sign to emphasise her words.

New Rikishi

Rikishi seems very confused and unaware about Ling Jing's complains, "E-excuse, fanciable what??"

He doesn't wait for her to answer though, as he spots Hanami, "Hanami!! My beloved, my cherry blossom from the mountain tree!!" He says, falling on her with his arms wide open, expecting a hug... Apparently...

Mio Suzuki

As the group wanders the corriders, they notice the new girl, Mio Suzuki, still looking frightened. She winces as Sumeryu calls her. "Gah! W-what do you want from me??" She's holding something on her hand, it seemed like a map.

"I- I'm just looking around, err... G-getting to know the place, you know??" She says, keeping her distance from anyone.

"I- I found this map of the campus, t-thought it could help, heheh..." She says. The map had a place in the middle of the forest marked with a yellow marked, with "Exit" written under it.

"I'd really prefer to go alone..."

Hibana is both intrigued and confused by Lin-Jing’s outrage. "If everyone is unique, no one is equal." She thinks this is a helpful thing to say, following what she said earlier, even though the fish-in-pond metaphor is lost in her.

"Example. This school gives me an opportunity to blend into human society, but I cannot fool anyone, pretend human like the rest of you can. But I can still learn. Not one giant girl grabbed a fly swatter and called me a shoe, so.. I think I have a natural talent."

She considers the fish-in-pond thing again. Big fish in small pond? She was talking about the biggest boy and biggest girl…

"If you are fishing and someone else is fishing, and you’re not in the same boat, you catch different fish—not even fish same part of the of pond. Then no need to worry if the other fisher catches more fish than you. Just enjoy your own pursuit and experience; you like the catch, you keep!"

Hibana’s answer is literally about fishing. If I don’t know what the metaphor is about, a literal answer is most helpful. Otherwise, the metaphor stinks.

Wait… fish stink. Maybe it’s supposed to…

The fairy flutters aimlessly as she gets lost in her thoughts.

Exasperated by Lin Jing's tangent, a bead of sweat rolls down Hanami's face. "I don't remember asking about your 'opportunities'. Besides, have you ever considered that the 'fanciable bishies' exist, but they just don't want you?" She snickers.

A chill runs down Hanami's spine. "Oh God... Back! Back, I say!" She pulls out her wand and points it directly at Rikishi. "If you call me your beloved or anything gross like that again, I'll curse you with a swollen tongue!"

The color changing effect is cool, vicky! Nice work. And the new portrait is amusing.

"If that is what you want. But this school is full of monsters, all of them less beautiful and many more aggressive than myself."

Sumeryu flips her hair dramatically and lays on her particular brand of charm, which is the social equivalent of shooting a mouse with a 16cm battleship cannon. She will get to the bottom of this Mio Suzuki! And she'll need to get her alone first!

"You have a map of the academy grounds? Would you happen to recall how you got this map?" Ibuki thinks back to the map that she happened upon which also contained a peculiar X in the woods

The crowd of students stop on their tracks, amusingly watching Lin Jing and Hanami's somewhat heated exchange.

New Rikishi

Hanami's wand pokes hard at Rikishi's face, making he stand back, rubbing his attacked sinus, "Ouch... Oh, being cursed lovers, just like in a fairy tail..."[b] He seems dreamily, already forgetting the threat or the pain.
Mio Suzuki
At Sumeryu's remark, she freezes in place, looking at her, frightened.

[b]"Y-you're a monster??!"

She don't dare asking to stick with the group, but she don't leave either.

She looks at the map, then answering Ibuki: "Oh... A-a guy gave it to me... He said that I could escape this nightmare in there..." She points at the place in the woods marked with 'exit'.

Ibuki think that mio really wants to stay in character here which she can respect and instead of commenting continue her line of questioning

"Was this man perhaps in a very shady fellow in a dark longcoat with a fedora, did he never give you a straight answer when asked about things?" As she asks Ibuki will consult the map that she found to see if this area is on both

"Uh... No..." She answers, pondering.

"He was just a student, like yourselves, maybe older... Y-you know? Well, he was kinda pretty, actually..." She then seems to remember something, and widen her eyes, "Err, I mean, no, not at all!! Scary, scary!"

The maps weren't equal, in fact the map the maid-lady gave them was just of a peripheral part of campus, while Mio's focused on the main one, with the dorms, school grounds, etc.

"Interesting, very interesting. Well that is all i had to ask thank you for your cooperation miss Suzuki you have been very helpful, I would normally now abide by your request to explore alone however I must warn you that there has actually recently been a kidnapping on campus grounds, it happened before you arrived so you may not have heard about it so i though it my duty to warn you. As such I would advise against heading out on your own, while I am sure you are very capable in your own way it is better to err on the side of caution no? I'd recommend having at least one or two partners with you on your exploration, of course the decision is yours at the end of the day but as you have satisfied my curiosity I should give my advice and of course if you wish for me to accompany you i would be happy to oblige..." Ibuki's mildly hypnotic lecture continues on on the background for awhile, she keeps her index finger raise throughout it

She answers Mio: "I am no mere monster! I am a dragon!"

She puts her hand on her chest self-importantly.

"And it would be rude of me not to help a fellow student who is in distress. This is my friend, Ibuki."

She speaks a little louder, so that the subject of her sentence can hear her while floating. "I think our mutual friend Hibana can tell you that we mean you no harm."

Hanami's eye twitches. "That's it! I need you to shut up for a while... How does a hundred years sound to you!?"

Malevolent magics swirl around her wand as she recites a witchly incantation. At the peak of her chant, a hex shoots from her wand and engulfs Rikishi like thick smoke, trying to take hold.

Spending 10 Endurance to cast -2 Mute on Rikishi. I'll also add +2 drama dice for another 10 endurance. 40/60 End for this scene

Mio Suzuki

Mio almost dozes off at Ibuki's long lecture, but then is suddenly startled by Sumeryu, jumping back, now against a wall, "Gah!! D-dragon??"

The magic curse really don't help Sumeryu and Hibana's case, only adding to her fear.

Katsuya Momochichi

Just as the case seemed to be lost, Katsuya appears, "Oh, we're revealing our monster races?? My turn! I'm a Kitsune!" She says, pulling her big fox ears. "She is too! By the way!" She says, wrapping her arm around Luna's neck and pulling her closer.

"Waah!! A-a fox girl?? Cuuute!!" Mio utters, in a girlish meltdown, as she jumps at Katsuya.

"Oh, ok... Y-you guys seem to be nice... And don't like you're going to devour me..." She says, though giving an unsure look at Sumeryu.

"Will you girls help me go there? I'm scared..." She pleas, meekly.

New Rikishi

"Gawahuvagoa!!" Rikishi utters, before covering his mouth with his hands, with a surprised look.

He gazes at Lin Jing with pleading eyes, begging for help.

Hibana is happy to help Mio. "Oh! I love helping! I’ve been helping people on an almost daily basis for as long as I can remember! …which is only a few days."

Not wanting to get into the whole amnesia thing, she tries to pass that few-days comment off as a joke. "Hahahaha..ha?" Then she tries to focus on the task at hand. "Lemme see the map, please."

"I don't think that's what we are supposed to be doing katsuya, im farily sure we specifically are not supposed to reveal that..." the talks about eating people alive cause ibuki to sweat a little for some reason

Lín Jìng reaches out to Rikishi with her mind. Sigh, it would be hard for me to undo the curse, it's witchery, and that means it would be very straining for me to deal with it. But I can extend my psychic powers to you. Mind, unlike speech, if someone wants to keep you out, you'll be kept out. Can't shout at someone who doesn't want to listen with it

She quickly gestures a mudra of mind-unity at him.

Surely she won't be willing to keep her power committed for such a petty revenge of a curse for a hundred years. I bet she'll release the committed essence by nearest sundown. But in the mean time, maybe you could practice being charming even silently.

Seems like Mio will be trying to leave us soon. Oh well.

And then another idea 'clicks' in her head. She raises a hand, about to shout to Mio, but then realised how awkward that would be, so instead she reached out with her mind in Mio's direction.

Knock-knock. Pst, do you want to become able of weaving real magic, Mio? It's very much unlike Harry Potter in real life. If you're interested, seek out the blazer-and-tie-wearing student farther away from the crowd.

No need to tell her that unless she studies hard, she'd only be able to weave it as long as I'm sharing my power with her.

Hibana and Katsuya are in the same room. Keep it together, Sumeryu! You can do it. Ganbare! Focus on the mystery of the girl who is definitely human! Regarding revealing monster identities, Sumeryu never it even brought it up. Why should a dragon hide her majesty? And it is the will of Heaven and the right way of the Dharma that she should be forthright in her nature! Yeah! Sumeryu is righteous and cool and gorgeous and strong, not thinking about playing board games and taking baths and cuddling and watching movies with the princesses all around her. Definitely not that!

Hanami can't help but cackle. No witch worth her wand could resist the satisfaction of a curse well woven. "Hahaha! Much better. You're so much more tolerable when you're silent." Hanami spins her wand and holsters it on her thigh with a flourish.

She was only half-listening to Mio's plights, so once she's done with cursing Rikishi, she's a little behind in the conversation. "Hm? You want to go somewhere, Maya? Was that your name? Wait, when did Momochichi get here!?"
