Welcome! (I think...)

Trying to get the hang of this thing. Not nearly as user friendly as Tavern Keeper.

I had to figure out to 'Join' the game before I was able to 'reply' to your thread....
Apr 21, 2025 4:30 am
Yes, you have to join before you can reply. Also, there is the option to turn this from public to private. In which case only those people have joined can see the posts. Another feature that there are 'forums' and 'threads'. In one game I have seen the forum as being for each gaming 'chapter' and the threads for OCCs type discussions. In another I seen the reverse where the forums were the world building type stuff and each thread was a different set of story events.

I be here, but not really sure how to this process is going to work… that having been said, I look forward to it…

I think for the players side it should be fairly similar, once we all get used to it. GM side there is probably more differences to get used to.

Maybe. I need to look and see if there is some sort of tutorial somewhere.
Apr 22, 2025 4:25 am
Yes, the site could definitely use a tutorial. The FAQ is fairly slim. I have sorted of figured things out through trial and error.

FYI.. If anyone wants a character sheet I created one based upon the Traveller Mongoose one I found on the site. It's not perfect but is closer to the Classic version.

I'm still trying to figure out basic navigation. A bit frustrating. No wiki function, so information will have to go into "threads" for access.
OOC:
Ah, and there is an ooc function. Might be useful
I understand that other games use BOLD to indicate speaking. Might be useful to remember that.

And there is color, too. HTML codes will work, though this is easier.
Quote:
And quotes, of course.
For basic role-play it should work all right I think.

Thanks for doing a character sheet. For Decherrek I just cut and pasted a jpeg from the character at Tavern Keeper. However it works for you.

It takes a little getting used to, it's true, but it seems a lot more stable than old TK. If you need help, the Discord people are generally very nice and helpful.

Now, how do you want us to roll characters?

Howdy. Hopefully we can do a little collaboration and come up with something that works for the group and allows you to have some fun. Here's the basics from my point of view, but whatever you come up with we can modify to best fit our concepts. Here's what I've written on this previously:

The easiest way to get started is to write a short bio or description of the character you would like to play and let the GM "run the numbers" for you. In particular if you are unfamiliar with the original Traveller rules and don't have the books ready to hand this would be preferred. You do not need prior experience with TRAVELLER in order to play! You do not need to buy any books or reference any rules.

If you wish to "roll your own" you can do that. Use BOOK ONE characters, and no switching careers. 3 to 5 terms (12 to 20 years) of service gives you a character of 30 to 38 years of age. Some aging penalties may apply to 4 and 5 term characters.

Since this is a commerce-oriented game, characters with a MERCHANT background are well suited for play, though a career in the Scouts or Navy might be applicable too. It might be a bit of a stretch to have Army or Marine characters but I'm willing to talk about it...

Characters generated from Supplement-4 "Citizens of the Imperium" are possible. Best way to do that is with the on-line character generator as follows:

Using the Classic Traveller character generator at Bat-In-The-Attic is another choice. https://www.batintheattic.com/traveller/

From a very high level what we have currently (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong)

LC - Navigator / Admin (JoT 1, Admin 2, Forgery 2, Brawling 1, Bribery 1, Computer 1, Navigation 2)
Bronz - Engineer (Brawling-1, Carbine-1, Engineering-1, Ship Tactic-1, Vacc-Suit-1)
Tharrok - Pilot (Pilot-3, Streetwise-2, Vacc Suit-1, Infighting-1, Auto Pistol-1, Blade-1, Bribery-1, Computer-1)
Mama - Medic (Admin-1, Air Raft -1, Computer-1, Medical-2, Navigation-1, Streetwise-1, Tracked Vehicle-1, Vacc Suit-1)

Primary skills we are missing are Steward, Mechanic and Broker but doubling up in other areas may be useful.

Great character. Playing with bat-in-the-attic is a lot of fun, but it does have a roughly 30-percent death rate! The crew definitely needs a Lead Engineer, but its good to have a back-up pilot, too.

We'll need to discuss high-status characters. But I'll be porting over my take on that from the other site real soon. "High Status without Nobility". I'd like to avoid having any noble characters in the game as that has been a 'sometimes' sticky-bit from previous experience.

More to come soon!

I've no strong desire for any kind of rank anyway! I'd be quite keen on swapping that C with the 4, talking about the high mortality of Engineers, but pretty open to whatever works for the game!

4 would fit right in with your fellow Engineer 'Street Rat' Bronz who has a 5 social. :)
