I've no strong desire for any kind of rank anyway! I'd be quite keen on swapping that C with the 4, talking about the high mortality of Engineers, but pretty open to whatever works for the game!
That 4 dex will make hitting with your revolver skill a bit chancy.

But I think we can go with the SOC as is. "Baron" as a reward for honorable and heroic service during the recently concluded Fifth Frontier War. Since its an award and not a hereditary title I think the character can be more down-to-planet and not so much hoity-toity, particularly when combined with the Lieutenant rank. Might be that the character got a field promotion along with the title for some crazy stunt in service to the Imperium. Shouldn't become a burden on the game I think.

Hey there, thanks for having me, I'm excited to try out Traveller for the first time.

Here's a random character generated using bat-in-the-attic. Happy to be the groups mechanic, just let me know what you think.

Powerful character there in many ways, though the low SOC makes for some challenges. Being a Merchant Captain might be a bit over-powering from a role-playing perspective. My immediate question is why they would want to associate with a bunch of Free Traders just starting out? I'm sure you can come up with reasons! A SOC-3 'Captain' could go a long way towards explaining that.

Since the game centers around an independent starship that is yet to organize, any expectations for assuming leadership might be problematic. I'm not sure that a Captain is going to want to be a low-on-the-totem Engineering-Tech for the duration... But again, its all in the role-play. This character is much stronger than the average already in the game.

But let's go for now on the assumption that the other crew vote the character aboard. And let the roleplay settle out any possible difficulties.

Just checking the UPP is Str, Dex, Con, so that would mean I have a slightly better Dex than Con?

Your stats work out to:
STR 8
DEX 4
END 5
INT 5
EDU A (10)
SOC C (12)

So lots of Education but not much Intelligence. Not sure how that worked out but Bronz is the opposite very little Education but a lot of Intelligence. We should get along great. :)

Ah, I failed to recognize that this character had made it to Captain. Though it may be something he keeps private and he is running from his past life of service. With respect to being overpowered, I'm happy to reroll or deflate some numbers to make it fit the group better. Whatever you recommend. I saw the high mechanic attribute and thought it'd make a good fit. I'm more interested in fitting in with the group dynamic rather than min/maxing a character.

I've usually figured that Intelligence is "figuring things out", whereas education is "knowing stuff". Subtle difference sometimes, but I see no contradiction in having characters with a 'spread' in values for these two attributes.

And obviously I have some charm going for me!

Hello Travellers,

I didn't realise I had been invited to the game, sorry, and thanks!

I rolled up this character - would she work for the party?
[ +- ] Alice Petrov - Scientist
Apr 24, 2025 3:59 pm
Howdy sonofirony. I think the Scientist Character is a possibility. That computer skill makes "Alice" extremely formidable. No ship benefits for this game, so that gets ignored. Short of credits, so that's a big motivation for getting involved in a (hopefully) money making endeavor.

That about fills out the crew.

I'm working on moving the "wiki" information over from the previous 'host' Tavern_Keeper, so it might be worth browsing that.

And I will (with any luck) get an introductory roleplay started soon so that the crew can start to form up and move forward!

Still unable to get the profile to accept changes and up date. So... No avatar yet
Apr 24, 2025 8:42 pm
For the players I would not be intimidated by the amount of information that David the GM is placing in the wiki thread.
The gang of Characters do their best at making trades and working together..

The group needs desperately a broaker/steward, someone that has the skills etc. The cast of characters can always use some character to help out with the operation of the ship. Character that has broker skill. Will definitely be a plus.
Broker
The Broker skill allows a character to negotiate trades and arrange fair deals.
Carouse

Of course another character with Streetwise is always welcome <smile>

You need to keep avatar quite small, for my character image I resized it to around 300x300 and it didn't complain. I think the issue that the site doesn't give a warning for such things.

Thank you

For the record: All Characters so far submitted are fine as-is, with the caveats I've mentioned as suggestions for role-play. Go ahead and get those characters fleshed out just a little.

I'll look at the whole 'crew' pretty soon. If there are characters that seem significantly weaker than the current average I will consider pumping them up a bit rather than lowering any others. The characters that just finished the "Robot Retrieval" caper are due for some rewards, too.

Role-Play to start soon.

And as said above, the amount of information I'm putting into the 'wiki' will seem overwhelming. There's no need for anyone to go through and read it thoroughly. Its there mainly for reference as we progress through our story. So no worries and don't be put off by all that stuff.

Primary skills we are missing are Steward, Mechanic and Broker but doubling up in other areas may be useful.
"Broker" seems to imply y'all are using the Merchant Prince book (?)

The broker skill is such an important one for a Merchant/commerce centric game that I've "ported it in". It is mentioned/implied in Book-3 of the original game set. So not much of a stretch. I use Merchant Prince to help resolve trading, though roleplay is the more important factor in determing costs and prices. I also use the GURPS "Far Trader" book mainly for inspiration.

If you wanted to acquire that skill for your character I would allow swapping out a 'normally acquired' skill for Broker.

Be aware that a Planet-bound broker of equal skill level will always be better than a shipboard broker due to more experience and knowledge of the local economy.

Made this dude on batintheattic -- there doesn't seem to be the chance to get Broker at that site so I replaced Admin-1 with Broker-1.

Is this OK? I mean the party absolutely needs a dude on the flight deck swinging his very own broadsword.

Rental broadswords are just *not* classy.
