Trakomak will look around to talk to any neighbor about the wizard. As a matter of fact re recalls Harbin mentioned it's across some farm. Looking to find the farmer and ask some questions about the wizard, the house situation and the neighborhood (is this a good place to live).

"Thank you, Elsa," Tatiana says. She proceeds to finish her meal in little bites, silently meditating on recent events.
May 13, 2025 10:06 pm
Tatiana, Elsa nods at your thanks.
May 13, 2025 10:16 pm
Nearly done with her small meal, Tatiana says to those remaining at the table, "I will check on Master Rockseeker's condition. Alex, if you intend to visit the Lionshield Coster now to purchase your ammunition, I suggest you take Raven with you. Or, if it can wait until after Sister Garele's diagnosis, we can all accompany you. I do not believe it is safe for any of us to venture out alone."

With that, Tatiana excuses herself to retire upstairs. She will visit Gundren's room for updates, as well as deliver Ammos's payment from Barthen.

Raven paused at Tatiana left the table. Sitting with Alex for a moment, "I hope they can help him." The farmer scratches the cat quietly as he considers whether they will be able to heal their employer's injuries.

Alex glanced over at Daran Edermath, trying to be as unprovocative as possible. In his years entertaining in the taverns of Amphail, Rassalantar, and Waterdeep itself, he was aware that not every drow was an evil, bloodthirsty tyrant. Only most; and near all in the Underdark. But he had laid eyes on one or two of the dark elves in Waterdeep.

Responding to Raven, Alex said me too, lad; me too. Speaking of which, if the barmaid is right, that orchard-keeper over there would probably have a decent read on the situation here with the Redbrands.

Trying not to be obvious, Alex looked for any representation of a dancing drow maiden or a longsword; both symbols of Eilistraee, the only good member of the Dark Seldarine. Pushing his chair back and preparing to approach the seated drow, Alex whispered to his patroness in prayer, Bright Smiling Lady, this roll of the dice is for you.

Alex is still looking for anything reassuring on the Drow.

Tatiana, you climb the stairs and enter the room where a sister Garele is looking after Gundren. After a giving a polite knock of course, and hearing Sildar call, "Enter." The four of them are all sitting around a small table in the room. There are no more chairs left. They are all looking a little dejected, though Ammos does give you a small smile upon seeing you.

Raven, the cat purrs under your attention and continues to sleep.

Alex, as you scan the room, across the way, you see a fit, silver-haired half-elf well over a hundred years old. He is of obvious Drow decent. He is sitting at a table with what appears to be an old farmer, and they are having a friendly conversation. He is currently turned a bit away from you so it’s hard to make out if he has any iconography on his person, but you do notice he has a long sword at his hip and a shield leaning against the leg of the table.

Delivery of Ammos's coin can wait for an appropriate opportunity. Tatiana closes the door and walks to the table. She positions herself just off of Ammos's left shoulder, and looks down to see if his meal had been delivered, or more-importantly, touched. She listens, at first, for the others to resume their conversation.
May 16, 2025 7:51 pm
As Alex approached, he saw that the former adventurer was engrossed in conversation with a local farmer. The farmer's body language was relaxed, if not outrightly gregarious. That bodes well; the less friendly drow, to my understanding, are condescending and cruel to those they call surface-dwellers. Eyeing the drow's armament, Alex realizes that any standard recognition sequences would be wasted; the shield indicated the user almost certainly did not train in less…martial…pursuits.

As he reached the table, Alex waited respectfully for a lull in the conversation. At one such, he interjected "Pardon me gentlemen." Turning to Daran, he continued, "when your conversation is done, may I beg a few moments of your time, sir?" Alex waited patiently but nervously for the response.

Tatiana you see that yes Ammos’s meal, as well as food for Gundren and Sildar is sitting at the table. Ammos has eaten… some, but seems preoccupied with whats going on in the room.
Sildar Hallwinter
Sildar leans over and puts a comforting hand of Gundrens shoulder. "You see my friend, hope is not lost. We just need more… experienced help." He gives a respectful nod to Sister Garaele.

Narth

Alex
the two men look up at your words. They both give you curious but friendly looks, the old man actually smiles wide."No bother, no bother, young man." The old man says, tilting a little in his seat. "Sit, sit. So many nice new faces today. Got a free drink earlier from a big old half orc." He raises his pint.
Daran Edermath
With a fond smile the drow turns to you, "Forgive Narth, his enthusiasm for free mead, he’s easily bought. Sit if you like, what can we do for you? I’m Daran Edermath." He extends his hand, eyes scrutinizing you, and looking over your shoulder to do the same to Raven.
May 21, 2025 8:31 pm
Tatiana ventures to ask, "What is required, Sister?" She clasps her hands together below her waist, feet together in courtly attention.
May 22, 2025 7:36 pm
Raven glances at the drow who Alex went to speak with, but curls up with the cat, closing his eyes in the booth with the feline snuggled up against him. Everyone seemed to have a task at the moment, so Raven took advantage of having nothing much to do to get a little rest with his new friend.
May 23, 2025 6:23 pm
While standing, Alex takes the drow's proffered greeting and returns the handclasp with a firm, but not overwhelming, grip. As Alex sits down, he nods to the drow and the farmer. "Thank you kindly, both. A pleasure to make both your acquaintance." Here, Alex stresses "both" ever-so-slightly. My name is Alexander Simonnet Natalis de Bertier du Puy, but please call me Alex. What can I say, my parents are sentimental and insistent", Alex says with a smile.

Turning to Daran Edermath, Alex continues. "The delightfully fetching barmaid—Elsa, I believe—suggested that you may have some valuable insight into the recent occurrences in this area". Alex proceeded to describe his party's mission, journey to Phalandin, and findings, leaving out only the lost trade goods. At this point, Alex did not want to lost the opportunity for any reward.

Leaning forward, Alex continued. "So we have flying monsters in the wood, a band of marauding goblinoids—now reduced in size and might, a wounded patron, a band of ne'er-do-wells in town, and a seeming lack of will to address any of them. When discussing this at the table, Elsa suggested that your background would have cause to provide you with a particularly helpful perspective on not only the issues but perhaps how to address them." With that, Alex sat back up straight and waited while Daran processed the information.

Sister Garaele
Tatiana you watch as Sister Garaele’s face turns a bit more sorrowful, "After some investigation I’ve come to learn that it seems to be a curse that is affecting Gundren. I don’t possess the ability to remove it. It takes more powerful magic than I have. He would need to go to a temple in Neverwinter or Waterdeep, a cleric there, I’m sure, would be able clear his vision."

Gundren Rockseeker
Gundren sighs, "Look I understand, and I’m grateful for the knowledge that I won’t be blind forever… but I’m worried about my brothers. I need someone to go check on them they should have come back to town for supplies by now, and Toblen said they haven’t been seen in town."
Daran Edermath
Alex, Daran listens to your story with a quiet focus, even though you have a tendency to use ten words when one will do. Old Narth’s ale gets the better of him and he falls asleep in his seat.

At the end of the tale Daran nods his head. "Quite the thing, all that. You’re right of course, it's time someone took a stand against the Redbrands' and their leader, calls himself Glasstaff. Or so I’ve heard. I knows the Redbrands hang around the Sleeping Giant tap house, causing all sorts of problems for Gorn." He drops his voice lower, to a whisper. "I also know that the main Redbrand safe house lies under the ruins of old Tresendar Manor. I’ve seen’m wandering around all over there like ants."
May 27, 2025 7:08 pm
Tatiana absorbs the information and silently considers the actions available to her and the others.

"Master Rockseeker," she begins, "so I understand the situation, your brothers did not arrive in Phandalin at all? Might they have been waylaid by the same goblins that took you and Master Hallwinter? One of the goblins we encountered mentioned that they were ordered to capture any dwarves on the road. While we obviously did not find any evidence your brothers were there, they may have been captured after we departed, or perhaps they were taken to a castle, reportedly where their King Grol resides."

She looks at Sildar. "Or did they arrive, were scheduled to depart again, and were not seen since? I learned from Master Barthen that a representative from the Lords Alliance was in town, but disappeared after a week. I don't have evidence to suggest their involvement, but the local Redbrands might be worth investigating if they had a hand in your brothers' absence."

Tatiana concludes, "I believe whatever the case, we will begin with Phandalin itself. Those brigands should be put in their place, lest they cause more trouble to Master Rockseeker's business."

Gundren Rockseeker
As you speak Tatiana, Gundren turns toward your voice. "My brothers have been at our claim… We believe we’ve found Wave Echo Cave and within it somewhere lays the Forge of Spells. That’s where my map, that the goblins took, leads. To the entrance we found. My brothers sent me to get supplies from Neverwinter that Barthen didn’t have for us on hand. But they should have come to town themselves to restock on mundane things, like food…"

"The map," Tatiana repeats with resignation, now keenly aware that she forgot about Sildar's mention of it back at the cave. "It appears these goblins knew of your activities and were targeting you. Are you familiar with the names 'King Grol' or the 'Black Spider?'"

She considers something. [b]"Even if both are strangers to you, perhaps your objective is known to them and was reason enough for their attention. I am not learned in Wave Echo Cave, nor the Forge of Spells. What are these locations?"

Gundren Rockseeker
At Tatiana’s question Gundren’s face lights up and he begins to excitedly ramble. "The history is most interesting. More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave that a few of their scouts found. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge." His voice goes wistful, "The Forge of Spells."

"The forge could craft magic items not just regular steel. Times were good with the forge bringing wealth to the area, and the nearby human town, which was of course Phandalin, prospered as well. But then disaster struck the region, when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path. Destroying not only old Phandalin but attacking the forge. The Pact tried to defend with weapons and magic but the forge and the entrance to the mine were lost."

"My brothers and I have looked for years hoping to reclaim the Forge, and we think we found a new entrance through Wave Echo Cave. We’ve only explored the first few caverns and tunnels but we’re hopeful we’ve found the forge. The help in the exploration of the Cave was to be offered to any I deemed worthy in your group to help us, at an offer of a 5 percent share in the mine and Forge once we got it up and running again."

Tatiana considers the prospects, both literal and figurative, of helping Gundren. "I see why the map is so important," she says. "Ammy, I will task the others with securing the town, then plan an expedition to find the goblins and recover what was stolen. Stay with Master Rockseeker for whatever he needs, and for Mystra's sake, eat something." Her eyes flit towards the barely-touched plate.

Leaving no room for argument, Tatiana curtsies and excuses herself from the room. She descends the stairs into the common area to find Raven and Alex, and discuss the next steps.

Alex listened carefully to the experienced drow, cataloguing some questions as Daran proceeded. "My thanks, sir. that was a veritable font of useful information. A few queries, if I may be so bold as to continue to solicit your time. I am awash with uncertainties that perhaps you may be able to assuage.

Primus, I cannot but conjecture about the name of the lead ruffian. Glasstaff, you say? Sounds suspiciously wizardly. Is he, she, or it a spell-slinger of sorts?

Secundus, would you have any suppositions as to the size of the coterie this Glasstaff commands?

Tertius, would you have an estimate as to the distribution of said forces 'twixt the Sleeping Giant and the Tresendar Manor? For it would be sound for any attack to focus on the weaker, would it not?

Quartus, how doth they acquire their necessities. Are they involved in a profitable endeavor whose interruption would sorely vex and weaken them?

Quintus…"

Here Alex paused for a moment and then said sheepishly "I have not a fifth query of value in mind at the moment. I simply like archaic ordinals. But I would gladly accept any answers or advice you are willing to provide which may facilitate the removal of this blight upon the good citizenry of Phandalin".
