Shamons have been known since antiquity, as evil monsters who seem to feed on humans negative emotions. Their origins are uncertain, some say they come from the abyssal world, which is linked to humanity's subconscious and populated by these creatures. Most of their large scale manifestation in history have been suspected of being prompted by secret parties, though no clear evidence of that has yet been found.

Shamons come in a plurality of shapes and formats, making all attempts of cataloguing them failures. Their size is, on average, around 2.7 meters, for grunts, but special ones can be even bigger. They seem to have common types that are more frequent, with special, more powerful and intelligent ones being often considered as an unique individual. There have been rumors that shamons, specially for these more powerful kinds, are capable of assuming human disguises, or that they can lend power to humans or control them. No successful attempts of communicating with them are known by the public.

They all seem to be particularly vulnerable to the spiritual powers from the seisha, with seisha heroes being humanity's greatest defenders against these creatures.

Some sketches of common types, or 'grunts':
