A hidden hand, a trusted courtier, presented on a silken pillow, stuffed under your door at an inn. No matter how it came to be in your possession, you are the proud owner of a letter from one Baron Harketts. Printed on what appears to be a fine vellum, with clearly writ purple script, is the following missive:
Greetings and salutations!
You may not be aware of who I am, yet, but know this: my name is Baron Harketts. I am a man of varied connections and deep pockets. As it turns out, I am in need of your particular skill-set. I have received word of a unique treasure that I would like recovered. I am a bit infirm, and cannot go haring about to recover it on my own as I used to in my prime, you see. There is where you come in. I have a purse worth 500 gold coins with your name on it if you can recover the item for me. I have reached out to some other contractors as well, as I intend on sending more than one lone soul out for this. It is my dearest hope you will bond together, like the marauding bands of old, to recover this ancient artifact.
If you would like to know more (or see proof of the possible reward), please make yourself present at The Jeweled Bottle in Neverwinter in one month's time. I look forward to making your esteemed acquaintance.
Most sincerely,
Yahvitz Marrian, Twelfth Baron Harketts
The month has passed and you find yourself approaching a tavern with a battered sign hanging from a single chain. The image is that of a crystal decanter with sockets for what used to be gemstones set along the base.
