The serving girl blanches at your tone. Even a no-nothing infant could see that she seems massively torn.

I can't - I mean - you can't - that is to say, the baron, you don't just summon a baron, do you?!

"Then quit gawking and take me to him. Be quick about it!" Catriona is becoming her old self, regaining self confidence.

He's asked that all his visitors partake in food and drink in the back room. she says, taken a little aback by your appearance. She points toward the heavy door at the back of the tavern.

Catriona sweeps toward the indicated door and waits for the servant to open the door for her. Lady Catriona she says, meaning that the servant should announce her. In truth, Catriona is merely posturing. She's acutely aware that whatever this is, she's in way over her head and she's more than a little scared. What if it's a ruse and she's been caught out and to be sent home. But she'll be damned before she lets it show.

I'm glad to meet you Lady Catriona. You can enter as you see fit. the serving girl says with a gentle smile.

Catriona stands there a few moments tapping her feet impatiently but the serving girl doesn't seem to get it. Sighing, the little lady pushes through the door into the waiting room herself, trying to exude an air of confidence. Luckily her fine clothes, though no longer pristine, are still allow her to cut a fine figure . She sucks in her breath as she takes in the scene before her. These people don't look like they're going to be easy to impress.

A dwarf in dirty heavy armor walks in behind her and says Well Thats some way to ask for someone ain't it? followed by a hearty belly laugh. Such soft skin and a pretty face to match but none compare to her highness. Youre from a more pampered lifestyle ain't ya?

Aera looks quizzically at the small child who's entered the room, tilting his head to the side and blinking a few times. "Are you lost, nestling?" he asks. Surely she has found the wrong room!

Krieger looks at the half-orc curiously and takes a sip of his ale, trying not to raise any suspicions just yet. Her style of dress and attempts at commanding the room would perhaps indicate someone of noble stature.

Baraq hops off the overturned chair and retrieves more meat, going so far as to peck another chunk off the table and swallow it whole as he returns to her small perch. Let the others talk; she will eat.

Once the dwarf bedecked in armor enters the room, behind the young half-orc, only a minute or two elapses before there is a pounding on the door to the room. As your heads turn to the sound, it swings open and a wiry young boy steps through, wearing a tabard of white silk, trimmed with gold lace. An image of a spear crossed with a shepherd's crook adorns the chest, worked in purple embroidery. He holds a golden trumpet up to his lips and plays a trilling fanfare.

Move out of the way now, you ridiculous boy! comes an effeminate, braggadocios voice. As the boy moves out of the way, the doorway is filled with a tall, rather rotund man. An auburn beard covers his double chins and his slate gray eyes are sunk deep into the fat of his cheeks.

Ahhh! There you are! Ahh-ha, recipients of my missive. Adventurers one, adventurers all. Welcome my friends to the husk of Neverwinter. Welcome to one of the few jewels left shining in this wreckage of a city: The Jeweled Bottle! I, as you may have guessed, am the gracious host of the day, Yahvitz Merrian. The twelfth Baron Harketts. I trust you are all enjoying the fine food Meribeth and her father have put out for you? I asked that they provide a stout dwarven ale as well as a cask or two of that effervescent wine you elves favor. I will admit, I was at a loss for some of you, but I hope the piles of meat were satisfactory! Yahvitz boasts loudly. Waddling his way into the room, you get a better look at his attire. Purple silks, bedecked with flecks of diamond and amethyst. The motif of spear and crook is worked in gold stichery on the back of his heavy velvet cloak. Please, everyone, take you food and your drink, and take a seat. I will endeavor to explain to you the wondrous opportunity I lay at your eager feet! With a final flourish of his hand, he makes his way to the lone chair at the front of the hall. As he settles his massive frame onto it, it creaks in protest. With an embarrassed grimace he pulls a stoppered flask from his pocket and draws a deep drink.

Feeling everyone's eyes on her Catriona shifts her feet uncertainly. She realizes her family brooch is showing and tries to cover it up. When one of the birdmen (she can't tell Baraq is female) hops off her perch Catriona flinches. When she realizes the bitdman wasn't about to eat her she tries to hide her embarrassment by sticking her nose up in an attempt to seem disdainful.

As the Baron takes his seat she steps forward and gives a small curtsy. Baron. I am Catriona. She realizes belatedly that it might have been a good idea to come up with a false name.

I lean forward in my chair towards the Baron. "Go on, then. What is it?"

Baraq is already "seated" as it were, crouched upon her overturned chair with talons digging into the wood. She tears off another bite of meat, stretching it apart from the chunk in her hand.
Dec 3, 2016 6:19 pm
Catriona eh? Not quite the Wavesilver I had in mind when I sent my letter, but we shall see how well you will do in your brother's stead. Clearly you have some manner of skill, else you wouldn't have been able to make your escape, eh lass? He says, eyes twinkling.
Dec 3, 2016 6:24 pm
Aera doesn't sit in a chair, instead climbing onto an empty table nearby and crouching down as if he were perched on a tree.
Dec 3, 2016 6:34 pm
Krieger drains his mug before placing it back on the table, stroking the tip of his beard. "I must admit, Baron, I wasn't expecting to hear from you again, it's been what, ten years? Fifteen? I was beginning to worry you'd gone the way of your predecessors." He chuckles under his breath.
Dec 3, 2016 6:41 pm
Yes! Master Steelshaper. It has certainly been an age since your wretched little form graced my court! I am pleased to see that you still so readily answer a call from true nobility! Welcome to the party! He says, the mirth in his voice making the insult seem more of a term of endearment.

Catriona nearly jumps out of her skin when the baron saya her family name. How did he...of course - the brooch. Then she realizes something else, especially when the Baron's words, "true nobility" sting her like a whip: Even here I'm not wanted! hot, angry tears start to well up in her eyes. She wants to run but her feet refuse to move.
