Baraq squawks in apparent agreement, strapping on her harness and equipment.

When the rest are headed back to the cart, Rolen will pull Catriona aside so they're out of earshot of the rest.
Dec 16, 2016 11:36 pm
Wh-what is it? Catriona asks, her hackles up.

After some silence, Rolen speaks in a soft voice, though he doesn't look at the young half-orc "I don't think the lesson I tried to teach you was wrong, it was necessary." He lets out a sigh and meets eyes with her "However, it was wrong of me the way I went about it, I didn't need to kill it in front of you, that was unnecessary. I won't take offense if you think me a monster or heartless for what I did but hopefully the purpose of why I did it isn't lost to you. I can see your love for animals and I don't want you to lose that but this isn't a castle, where you are safe behind stone walls, you have to be careful with what you trust." Rolen places a hand on Catriona's shoulder "Don't lose your love but don't forget about your safety." he pats her shoulder and heads to a cart.

Catriona stands dumbfounded for a few moments letting Rolen's words sink in. He's right, she did think him a monster yesterday, him and Baraq. But the world does seem to be very different from what she thought it would be like: much more cruel and savage and sometimes ugly. And yet the beauty and freedom she craves is there too. And she can't let the ugliness get her down. Catriona takes a deep breath and skips after the elf to rejoin the others.

Gear settled, Baraq takes to the sky, feeling the morning air slip across her wings.

You all trundle east and then slightly north, arriving finally in Willowfall as the sun reaches just past its zenith. It is a simple enough town, surrounded by a low set of wooden barricades, essentially just sharpened logs planted in the ground to discourage interlopers. There is a single dirt road leading into town with a plain guard shack standing by the road. A pair of men with chain shirts and halberds stand either side of the path. As you approach, they cross their weapons, preventing your further progress.

Halt ye, what purpose do you have to call on Willowfall? the man on the eastern side of the road (by the shack) calls out clearly when you get to about 30' from their position.

"We are a group of travelers; just passing through."
Dec 18, 2016 12:30 am
Rolen steps out of the cart and gets 15' closer to the guards, "Hopefully just passing through, we are looking for a man that is rumored to be here. Perhaps you can point us to him, we're looking for a crazy old man. Does anyone here fit the bill?"

Crazy old man? You may be talking about Antonius Fecksmith. Codger is always yelling about some crackpot thing or the other. He's definitely here. Doesn't go anywhere else. Too much talk of demons or summat like that. Not sure what you're wantin' with old Fecky, but you're welcome to pay his tower a visit.... he trails off as he sees the pair of avian party members. Lost in his thoughts for the moment, his words stammer and he turns to point back toward the bulk of the town.

Go through to the well, take the north-western trail. His cottage is out in the third or fourth ring of huts. You'll know it when you see it.

Rolen nods to the guard with a smile, turns his head back to the carts and motions forward, signifying they are okayed for entry. Turning back to the guards, "I appreciate your help." Rolen digs into his belt pouch as he walks forward and gives the guard that talked two gold coins as he walks past him.

Thank you sir! He says, sweeping into a small bow as you proceed through the gate.

Rolen enters the town, stopping to wait for the rest to catch up and to look and see if the well is anywhere to be seen.

Baraq sails the wind, watching the party progress. She follows the carts when they move down the path, uncaring if the townsfolk notice.

Neraduin didn't talk much during the evening and the night that followed. He was very much pondering if he should leave this group of uncivilized adventurers. The individual named Orseas probably thought the same as well.

However, the events at the wolf fight had not been mentioned aloud this morning, and after a few hours of rest, the scribe had still dark stripes under his eyes but had decided to stay.

Well, I have a hunch this is not the last crazy person we'll have to deal with. he mutters dripping with sarcasm as the guard offers them indications.

Map (rough, hooray paint) of Willowfall. Now that you are closer to the town, you can see that there are multiple roads in and out of the city, one on each side of the roughly rectangular town. You are approaching from the southern entrance. As you ride down the hard-packed dirt, you see fields to the west and a church with an expansive cemetery to the east. Before too long, you see the well in the middle of the town square. To the northeast, you see a large stone building with a single wooden sign stating "Administrative Hall". Behind that edifice there is a bustling market and you see several stalls erected with offshoot roads leading into the fray. To the northwest you see low rings of simple housing. A few taller buildings, likely stables judging by the paddocks near to them, mar the otherwise squat skyline. The land slopes up as you go further to the northwest, enabling all the huts to look down onto the well area. There are narrow paths between the buildings, only wide enough to fit your cart with nothing on the sides.

From her aerial view, Baraq scans the town, idly picking out places and people of interest.

Baraq, as you sail over the town, you see no small number of townsfolk milling around looking up at you in awe. As you make your rounds, everything looks to be in order as you would expect in a village of this size (no more than 500 people). The market is giving off a pleasing odor, something is roasting and is well seasoned. The homes, while squat, are somewhat large. There are two large stables with a few horses and some cows grazing in the northwest. You spot what must be the old man's place. In the third rectangle out from the center (across from the innermost grazing area in the northwest), near to the fortified wall is a shack different from those around it. This one has stones piled up barricading off portions of his property. There is a ramshackle tower affixed to the house. Also, there's a man out in front screaming at nothing in particular.

Having a destination in mind, Aera will take to the sky with Baraq to point her to the proper location.
Dec 19, 2016 10:43 pm
Baraq looks where indicated and correlates the screaming man with their eventual destination. Having no desire to trade words with a madman, the aarakocra screeches a call to Aera indicating her displeasure. "Let the others talk to him," she says in Aarakocra, "lest he give me a reason to smash open his skull like a betel nut."
