"For now, no. We invite them in, I wouldn't want to be caught out in that storm. If they prove to be a problem, we kill them and you can eat whichever you please."

Rolen lowers his crossbow "Come get shelter, Jessen; don't do anything stupid and we won't have a problem."

Baraq gathers up the javelins and sticks, now that less room is available for the improvised game.
Oct 31, 2017 5:52 am
Catriona relaxes her stance almost even before Rolen speaks. She fusses over the family, particularly the girl, finding a place for them by the fire, offering food, even passing one of her wine bottles to Jessen. "I'm Cat. What's your name?" she asks the girl. Chuck-chuck chitters, watching the newcomers curiously.

Jessen nods appreciatively and moves into the cave after ushering the woman and girl in before him.

Thanks for - ah wow. You've quite the motley crew here don't you. Um. Yes. Thank you. he says, giving a small, but drippy, bow.

The girls looks between strands of drenched blonde hair. I'm Evelyn. a small smile and a rush of red creeps up her face as she pulls back a little.
Oct 31, 2017 1:47 pm
Aera moves directly in front of Evelyn and leans down, his beak just inches from her face. He cocks his head to the side curiously, "Why is the nestling out in a storm? Is that normal for humans?"
Oct 31, 2017 3:13 pm
Evelyn falls back onto her butt, trying to quickly move away from Aera, her eyes wide.

I - I - I - DADDY! she cries out, a tear starting to trickle down her face.

Jessen moves to her side. Hey! Can't you see she's scared?! No, it's not normal, but neither is this storm! Is it normal to have your home obliterated by lightning?
Oct 31, 2017 3:15 pm
Aera squawks confusedly, "My nest was destroyed by storms before. You just have to build a new nest," he says, "Is that not normal for human people?"
Oct 31, 2017 4:32 pm
Baraq stows her javelins into her harness, and now that Evelyn and Jessen have vacated some space from the fire, steals a spot closer to the warmth.
Nov 2, 2017 2:44 pm
Our house was not a nest! It had been my father's house before that, and his father built it for his family. No, we don't just rebuild usually! Jessen says angrily, hugging his daughter to his chest. She presses against him and turns to look at Aera.

What ARE you? she says between slowly reducing sobs.
Nov 2, 2017 6:01 pm
"I’ve survived without a home; I can tell you it’s easy enough."
Nov 5, 2017 5:29 pm
Jessen shoots you a look full of loathing and fear. We appreciate the shelter, even if it isn't exactly hospitable. But if this is the way you'll be treating us, we'll chance the storm! he said.

"No, please stay!" Catriona says, trying to soothe the Jessen and his family. "Don't mind them, they're just not used to dealing with people. Please forgive me for being unwelcoming at the cave entrance. We've all been through quite a lot so please understand if we're slow to trust."

Aera cocks his head to the side and lets out a soft chirp, thoroughly confused by these humans.
Nov 6, 2017 6:01 am
Baraq's talons scratch the ground as she adjusts her perch by the fire.
Nov 6, 2017 1:42 pm
Jessen's shoulders stoop a little as Catriona speaks to him. No, really, I understand. This whole damn storm has me frazzled. Blew up out of nowhere, and stronger than I've seen this far inland. Would it help to sit and tell your tale? he offered.
Nov 6, 2017 4:14 pm
"We'd rather hear yours. Tell us about your home."
Nov 13, 2017 3:50 pm
"She said it was destroyed by lightning" I add helpfully.
Nov 13, 2017 3:58 pm
"I mean what was it like before?!" Catriona snaps at Xavena irritably. "I swear, you people need to learn some manners!"
Nov 13, 2017 4:46 pm
Jessen smiles at the infighting a little bit, happy to see that the storm has put everyone as on edge as he is.

Before? It was quiet. I'm a farmer. We had a little cottage and would keep our few animals. This storm, though, it struck our cottage. Sent burning chunks everywhere. By the time we got out of the wreckage and found our bearings, a tree had fallen over the fence, shattering it. The animals had all run into the woods. I knew we couldn't stay there, so I got the three of us headed this direction where trees weren't as likely to come down on our heads. We've been moving through the rains ever since. he said, looking down at his hands before a small cry hitches his chest, as if the loss finally hit him truly.

"How many animals, and how far are the woods?" Baraq asks, mentally calculating sums.
