Baraq takes a moment to snatch the man's eyes, pulling them free from the lifeless head. She checks if the entangling vines maintain their grip, and if they do, turns in mid-air and flies towards Jessen's last known location.

Once back at the cave, I revert to my normal form. "Next time there's danger, dive for cover."
Dec 19, 2017 9:07 pm
Aera flies over and lands near the family, "Are you all unhurt?" he asks.
Dec 20, 2017 3:05 pm
Everyone has reconvened at the cave, Jessen the slowest moving of them. He managed to stop the bleeding, but he's definitely wounded to the point that leading a walk back to anywhere is likely not going to happen any time soon.

Those damn ruffians. I knew them boys, they used to be little prigs as children and grew up bad. If the tree is bad, so is the fruit, says I. Their daddy was hanged as a thief years ago. Shows they aren't any better. We can't thank you enough for the protection. I've got only a few silver on me, but you're welcome to it as payment for the help. he says, voice echoing the pain in his eyes.

Evelyn watches in wonder as Xavena shifts back from a wolf.

That's - oh wow! How did you do that! That was amazing! Are all the animals in the woods like that? Could I do that? To be an owl would be so much fun! she exclaims excitedly, the idea of shapeshifting completely obliterating any weird feelings she had from the night before.

Elyssa sits with Jessen, worrying over his wounds.

If anyone checks the bandits bodies, they recover two suits of leather armor, two longbows with four arrows each, two rusty short swords, and a pouch with 12 gold.

Baraq seems disappointed that Jessen lived, hovering over him as he limped back to the cave like a vulture. When everyone has rendezvoused, she gives an eye to Aera

She looks at the tired family quizzically. Finally, she hops over to Elyssa and Jessen, leaning her sharp beak down to the farmer. "Where is two miles east?" she asks, with a cluck.
Dec 20, 2017 4:35 pm
"Keep your coin, Jessen. In fact, here is 10 gold to help you rebuild your home and keep your family safe." As Catriona pushes the gold into the man's hands, healing energy courses from her and heals his wounds.

Two miles east is, well, it's two miles that way. Jessen says, a bit confused. When Cat presses the coin into his hands, a small tear wells up.

Oh, thank you, really thank you so much. Please, may Lathander bless you and your journey! he says, hugging Catriona before moving back to his wife and daughter. We should go now, try to make it back to the farm. See what the damage is in the light of day. If you all find yourselves back here, please stop off at our farm, we would love to see you all again.

Baraq's feathers ruffle briefly, then settle down. Looking between Catriona and Jessen, the barbarian holds her hand out to Jessen and gifts the remaining eye to him.

Perhaps satisfied that farmer customs have been observed, she turns to Aera and screeches in aarakocra, "Let us hunt! There is a Fred-o-reek left that may prove to be good sport!" Baraq begins to prepare her weapons, stringing her shortbow and seemingly ready to leave.
Dec 21, 2017 10:01 pm
Aera nods, "Let's go. It won't take long!" he replies, grabbing his bow once more.
Dec 23, 2017 3:46 am
Jessen looks down at the grisly trophy Baraq handed him and swallows.

Umm. Thank - you? I think? Yes. Thank you. he says, a hint of trepidation in his voice.
Dec 26, 2017 6:24 pm
Baraq stares at Jessen, then looks to the others. As if debating some moral dilemma, she thinks heavily for a few seconds. Then, she says in Common, "There is a Fred-o-reek east of here. The green archers said they came from that place. Perhaps you all wish to hunt, too?"
Dec 28, 2017 5:38 am
"Yes, let us hunt. And take the spoils. Maybe return some of it if we can."
Jan 3, 2018 5:06 pm
"Anyone else?" Baraq asks, scanning the occupants of the cave. "We leave now. Catch up if you decide later."

With that, she strides out of the cave and takes to the sky.

Something feral inside Catriona feels the urge to hunt with Baraq and Xavena. But she hesitates. "What do you think, Rolen?"
Jan 4, 2018 12:11 am
Aera rushes out and takes off after Baraq.
Jan 4, 2018 6:14 am
Rolen is silent for a moment as he watches Baraq and Xavena begin to leave "As much as I would prefer to getting on with our mission, the dragonborn brings up a good point; they must have spoils, spoils that we can return to Jessen and his family. They aren't the best at picking out..." He looks at the gifted eye that was given to Jessen "valuables, so I think it is needed that someone cultured accompanies them."

Rolen smiles at Cat and gestures forward "After you, Lady."

You all set off towards the woods, making good time towards the aforementioned shack where Frederick is supposed to be. Aera and Baraq, as you get closer, you note that you can't really see down through the forest canopy anywhere near to where the shack is. The pair of you set down near your party and from the ground, you can see a squat little log shack through the trees. A faint wisp of smoke rises from a hole in the roof and a glimmer of light can be seen under the door.
Jan 12, 2018 2:12 am
I say to no one in particular, "Talk to him, or set the shack on fire?"
Jan 12, 2018 3:13 am
"I'll get closer to take a look," Aera says before moving through the forest.

Aera heads towards the shack, however all that time in the air has proven to have duller his memory of how to walk quietly through the woods. Nothing cracking and creaking, the ground is still too wet for that, however, brushing up against the plant life raises enough noise.

You guys get back with the old farmer's coin? Old codger won't need it soon enough. calls a gruff voice from inside the shack.
