If it wasn't for the lack of explosives, I'd say it was Total War spreading their particular brand of crazy again. But why wouldn't they pack it full of explosives? Is someone trying to make us think it was Total War? Phaerin says scratching her head some more.

"I was on the same thought." Noss says, finishing writing. "You are right, it could be a pretender. If that is the case, why go through all the trouble of torturing the ex-judge? Total War did have a vendetta to the city, but you are right. If they were up to their old tricks why not make it more sensational?" He paces for a moment after thinking. "You think it might be personal? Someone who wanted Ekhardt's head. An old bust or someone he pissed off?"

Either that or Ekhardt was the first representative of the Law they could get their hands on. Who out there has something against either Ekhardt or the Law and Total War at the same time?

OOC:
Records on any Judge are readily available in the various archives. Alternatively, Watch Commander Grice can provide Sector 13's known Total War suspects list.

Phaerin drops into a terminal chair and starts pulling up Ekhardt's service record, looking for any information that would trigger a red flag.

As for Ekhardt: his record as a Judge is exemplary and precisely what one would expect for a member of SJS: over 300 investigations against Judges, resulting in 40 successful prosecutions – 10 resulting in Titan sentences. He was a hardliner who even had a shot at interrogating Dredd.

Any one of the 600 Justice Department officers Ekhardt investigated or interrogated might have motive for wanting him dead; but here is one curious fact. Ekhardt took the Long Walk and here are no MAC records for his return, which indicates that he was most likely killed – or at least captured – in the Cursed Earth.

If another Judge who held a grudge against Ekhardt killed him in the Cursed Earth, then he is, technically, beyond Mega-City One jurisdiction and cannot be tried for the act.
Only if Ekhardt was killed within the city walls could charges be brought.

You can access the SJS records and go through every Judge who crossed paths with Ekhardt but that could take anything from 10-60 hours of continuous work.

"Lets narrow it down to the 40 prosecutions." Noss says, scratching his chin. "Any of them take the Long Walk themselves?"
Feb 12, 2017 1:43 pm
It takes a few hours, the rest of the shift, to go through just the 40 names that resulted in prosecution and determine if any went on the Long Walk. It draws pretty much a blank. Two Judges who were interrogated by Ekhardt and subsequently took the Long Walk are known to have died before Ekhardt took his. Of those sent to Titan, 6 never returned to Earth and the remainder who came back to Mega-City One are under PSU 24-hour surveillance. Their records show they now live blameless lives and not one of them has ventured out of the city.

This certainly looks to be a dead-end thought. If it wasn't one of his busts that wanted to target him, do we work off the theory that it wasn't related to his arrests as the reason he was strapped into the car? I mean, he was a veteran Judge that prosecuted other Judges. He'd know a lot of dirty little secrets. If someone managed to get hold of him during his Long Walk, they could have gotten a lot of information. Plus, we're looking at something professional, remember. So professional, they made it seem like Total War, but left out a crucial piece of their MO. Phaerin sighs and runs her fingers through her hair. This is why I stick with Tek issues usually. What're your thoughts Noss? You've more Street awareness than I do. Any up and comers looking to fit that billet?

OOC:
Is there a roll I could do for that? Like anything Noss may know?

OOC:
At this stage no, there's not much more to learn without a solid couple of days work studying the numbers, which you likely don't have time for. There shift's about to end anyway, you need rest.

"I'd have to a lot more digging to find something." Noss says, taking his helmet off and rubbing his head. He yawns after that. "We'll have to pickup on this tomorrow. Nothing left for us today."

I've messaged Valcos and given him 2 days to respond and he hasn't, so I'll drop him and leave the two of you for the next section. I've requested new player but feel free to share the link on social media to invite new players. The game will continue in a new thread.
