Naw, it's cool. Dramatic irony takes a back seat to a fun game!

I had telegraphed there was danger awhile ago, with the town being on "high alert" and Brunwin talking about the Hundred Swords searching for a party of 6 from Kaled Del in the chapter 3 thread, so I hope this turn of events doesn't feel like it's coming out of left field.

No, no, there's been plenty of buildup, which has beenbreally effective at building the urgency. Very well done IMO! :-)

Hey thatguy2, I noticed Thorin using a crossbow throughout last battle. Did you want to alter your character to be an archer? As it is right now, many of your abilities are not contributing to ranged combat.

I noticed you posted about running a RP-heavy, low combat 5e game recently so I'm guessing combat isn't your thing. But, I could work with you to make a character that would be more fun for you in combat, or give you some ideas on how to get more fun out of the character that you did build.
Thatguy2, I'm still offering.

I would like to leave him as is for now.

In attempts to use my Sprite to his full potential. I want him to use his attack however I was under the impression from reading the PHB that it requires to give up my action instead give the familiar a reaction. At least according to Pact of chain on 107 PHB.
Quote:
Additionally, when you take the Attack action, you can forgo one of your own attacks to allow your familiar to make one Attack of its own with its reaction.
Is this correct or does this allow me to attack as well as giving the Familiar a reaction to attack

You are correct that you have to spend an action to make it attack, and it does so at the cost of its reaction. You can do exactly what you did with readying an action, but it costs your reaction too. Still a solid idea though.

However, you can have your sprite take other actions as normal. You already had it do a "Use an Object" action when you had Drake activate the controls on the winching platform. It can also use the "Help" action to give you or an ally advantage on an attack. It can carry a bag of ball bearings and drop them by a doorway. It could fly around snuffing out torches until the room was pitch black and you would be fine because you have darkvision. It could trigger advantage for rogues just by being within 5 feet of the rogue's target. You can deliver touch-range spells through it.

Lots of potential for fun with Drake :) I like the way you think.

One of my favorite familiar tricks is having them take the Help action, free advantage!

just to clarify, these three have all engaged Torden and Prust in melee?
Only delta and foxtrot are engaged in melee. Papa is firing with his crossbow a handful of feet down the hall.

^see the above post. I made it, but somehow it morphed into your post?

You are free to move to Dwalia's door but that will trigger their readied attacks, just so you know. Yes, this is a dire situation. Some creativity will be needed to get out!

FYI, if you had to choose surrender is preferable to having Dwalia die, at least in the sense of the mission's overall success or failure, although there would be consequences. If Dwalia dies, it's done. If you get captured, you might be able to escape in the future. But maybe you can still pull this off without surrendering? It's a gamble and it will be fun either way :) Good luck!

There is a temple in town, they may be able to resurrect Dwalia. But with the Hundred Swords all stirred up, it could be a bad scene.

I did consider surrendering, but decided to gamble that Prust &/or the others can take Delta out at the very least. Unfortunately I didn't account for the readied actions. Might have been a bad decision, but there it is.

In my experience in D&D, bad decisions are usually more fun than good decisions :) If two people charge in, as long as they don't crit she'll have 1 death save left. A third person could do a medicine check or give a health potion to stabilize, and then you're golden. Cutting it close, but it'll be fun.

Also, the decisions that lead to this situation are much longer than whether or not you chose to surrender. Posting no watch, leaving the watchers unprotected, rousing Prust and not Dwalia first, telling the halflings all about themselves, not taking precautions to be more secretive, and so on.

What is Finn's familiar?
Jan 31, 2017 10:26 pm
Sprites have invisibility, don't they? We could use that to maybe take out the hostage-takers.
Jan 31, 2017 11:18 pm
I was attempting to do that to save my own skin ;)

Wait, does Torden have Healing Word?
Feb 1, 2017 12:20 am
Torden's all out of spell slots. And he used up his level 2 slots against the ogres.

lenpelletier says:
Prust backs up against the wall beside Dwalia's door, hammer in fist, hesitating. He turns to Torden and whispers

"Seeker, do we charge in?"
OOC:
Prust readies an action to attack any antagonist who goes into Dwalia's room, but I don't want an NPC to decide how you proceed. This decision should go to you, the players.

Because this is the end of the round and he did not attack or take damage, his rage is over.
Quote:
Orange - Prust & Torden vs. 3 crossbowmen from Papa, Foxtrot, and Delta outside of Prust's room
Wait, Torden already charged in (and dragged Prust with him if that's possible). Being unengaged and therefore able to move in (with Prust having an action available) was the whole point of casting Thunderwave.
Quote:
He makes his decision: he casts his final spell, blasting all three mercs surrounding him with thunderous force. Then he charges recklessly into Dwalia's room, dragging Prust behind him.
