Chapter One: An Urgent Summons

Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.

Jan 31, 2017 2:53 pm
The sun is hanging high in the sky as you head towards a small snowy village. You all have received an urgent summons from the Lord of Lighthill, Ragnar Thorson, saying that he will give you more information once you arrive. But who are you? Were you already headed to Lighthill before this?
Jan 31, 2017 10:27 pm
Niavara walks lightly atop the snow, her step light and her posture confident. She received the summons and took it without a thought. It's purpose allows her to follow her goal - to rid the land of evil. Her weapons will taste tyrannous blood.
Feb 1, 2017 1:38 am
Walking down the snow covered path towards the small village of Lighthill, Sinnj looks back over the past few days and how he came to be here. His master called him away from his studies to inform him that a local lord, named Thorson, had sent an urgent request for assistance. Now that his master was getting up there in years he didn't often leave the keep, and instead sent out his pupils to add others when need presented itself. Although Sinnj was not the wizard his master had been, or was when healthy, he was one of the better pupils and knew it was just a matter of time before he was sent out on behalf of his teacher. Now was his chance to get out and learn of the world first hand, and expand his mental and magical horizons.

The wind whipping up and pulling his hood back to expose his ear to the bitter cold, he quickly pulled it back into place. The only thing he knew of his elven heritage, other than his sharper than normal ears and the inability to grow a proper beard, was that only one of his parents had been an elf. This much he knew because of how he was treated when in the company of elves, and some humans. He tried not to think of it, as even the bitter cold was a more pleasant traveling companion than the memories of how people had treated him over something for which he had no control.

Piper strides down the frost-glazed path towards Lighthill, playing a gentle melody on her viol, and singing a song about the snow- she recalls how snow has a glitter to it when the light hits it right, making it... glow.
She sings, Softly falls the winter snow... Whispers to the sleeping world below... Winter tide a-wakes. Morning breaks and set the earth a-glow. she breathes in rhythm with the music, and continues to sing with a smile, In gentle tones of warmest white, proclaim the glory of auroras light. Sparrow sings in a clear, clean voice. A sweet silver carol for the season born. Radiant wings as the skies rejoice! Arise and illuminate the morn.... Her voice decrescendos for a moment, and she sings much softer, and slower, Softly falls the morning snow... Whispers to the sleeping world below... Glo-o-o-ooww she crescendos, her voice echoes across the empty land, vibrato elegant and gentle- she again softens Like the softly falling snow.... Glooo--oooooow she ends with a lower pitch, her viol elongating a final note Glow. she smiles, as she approaches the city. Can't wait to perform after I speak with the Lord.

The Half-elf continues to glide, the cold air nips at the points of her ears- her looks are definitely more from her elven mothers side. Her personality, and love for adventure, entertainment, and meat especially comes from her human father. She just recently graduated from the college of lore, and wanders the country performing at inns for her career. She already was headed to Lighthill for a job when she got the letter.

I alternate between walking with my fellow travelers and flying ahead to scout our road. When the summons from Lord Thorson arrived at my (adoptive) father's keep I didn't hesitate to volunteer for this task. I can again show my loyalty and worth to father here, and put my skills to good use helping the folk of this villiage.

I've gotten used to the stares at my horns, wings and tail. They used to anger me enough that I took rash actions. Now I pay them no mind. People are afraid of that they don't understand. When folk hear my words or see my deeds, they know I am so I much more than my heritage.
Feb 1, 2017 10:32 pm
Niavara walks in silence. She is better used to her own company than to that of others, and even then she prefers animals. Specifically animals that are trying to kill her - because then she will kill them. The flurry of action... it eases the pain. The pain, forever burning. Not her flesh... oh that it were! Her heart, her very soul, burns with passion and guilt. Only battle for the cause of justice can numb that horrible searing.
Feb 3, 2017 12:15 am
Sinnj smiles as he hears Piper softly singing while they walk towards Lighthill. Anything to help distract from the cold weather along the way is welcome, and she has a nice singing voice. He smiles as he accounts how well she sings to the elven side of her heritage, same as why he has been so quick to pick up the magical arts.
Feb 3, 2017 4:13 pm
You soon arrive at the small village. In the southern part of the village, you see a larger house made of stone. Everyone seems to have a look of pure terror on their faces. The sounds of small explosions can be heard all around you as you make your way towards the village. Once you arrive at the house, an older man walks out to approach you, inviting you in.

"I see you answered my summons," he says. While in the building you can see several groups of people cowering and crying. "The clerics are saying the village is going to be destroyed be some rock. They say it is because of the god Mityx. While I am not a religious man, I take these threats very seriously. Several groups of King's Rangers have already started escorting people out. There are three families here who need to be escorted out of harm's way and into Pavelton, to the southeast."

Feb 3, 2017 4:32 pm
"Point us in the right direction, then." Niavara says. "We'll get it done.
Feb 3, 2017 4:35 pm
"Pavelton is to the southeast. But I fear not everyone will make it out alive. And it is my responsibility to stay behind to see how many people everyone can get out."
Feb 3, 2017 4:37 pm
"As I said. We will get it done."
Feb 3, 2017 5:03 pm
Looking around at the few remaining people and seeing the fear set in their eyes,

"Where might we find these families that need our assistance? If the need for help is as dire as you say then we haven't got any time to waste.
Feb 3, 2017 5:49 pm
"They are the ones and here. And please, try to get my husband safe." A young ranger enters in telling him, "Sir, everyone is either on the way to the refuge cities or are already there." Ragnar responds with, "Good." Turning to the group, he says, "A quick change of plans. Since everyone else is on the way out or already on their way towards other cities, apparently my spouse and I can go as well."
OOC:

Feb 3, 2017 8:20 pm
Niavara raises an eyebrow, but says nothing at the unexpected nature of the man's spouse. "Either way, we should move quickly, no?"
Feb 3, 2017 8:28 pm
Enialis makes a sudden appearance. I won't be accompanying you, sire. I request to assist the party in their mission.
Feb 3, 2017 8:32 pm
"Aye. That would be best." Odin, the man's husband, says. He turns to Enialis and says, "If it isn't too much trouble, we would be travelling with you." You see a young elf girl, about 6 years old, come down. Tears stain her cheeks and she is scared. Ragnar picks her up, telling her, "It will be alright."
Feb 3, 2017 8:41 pm
Indeed, it will.
Feb 3, 2017 9:42 pm
Piper beams with excitement, Oh how I wonder what songs and stories will come to be if we succeed! she speaks, Can you provide us with mounts? A means of transport will surely be most useful.
Feb 3, 2017 10:40 pm
OOC:
I'm confused. Are we escorting Odin and Ragnar and the girl? Or someone else?
Feb 3, 2017 10:41 pm
No horse for me please. I spook them too easy.
Feb 3, 2017 10:57 pm
"Aye. We have a stable outside the city. We will be getting horses from there." The two men and the girl soon head out towards the stable.
Feb 3, 2017 11:01 pm
OOC:
yes you are escorting the three of them along with the 3 other families in the building: the Hornravens, the Evenwoods, and the Stormwinds.

OOC:
Okay thank you.
Feb 3, 2017 11:24 pm
OOC:
no problem buddy. :)
Feb 4, 2017 10:53 pm
As Odin leaves, he calls out, "Well? are you guys coming or not?"
Feb 5, 2017 1:11 am
Sinnj follows the two men and the girl over to the stable. Once they arrive he looks through the stock to see if any one horse is better than the others, figuring that the nicest one would be spoken for and he wouldn't waste his time looking towards it as one he could use as a mount on their trek.
Feb 5, 2017 3:30 pm
Piper glides along, humming tunes to herself as everybody prepares to leave.
Feb 5, 2017 5:30 pm
You all arrive at the stables, seeing a brown destrier, most likely the lords', and several other smaller horses- two mares, a stallion, and a gelding. However, you soon notice someone taking shots at you with a bow. He seems to be just an average bandit, trying to steal what he can before the city is destroyed. Roll initiative.
Feb 5, 2017 10:25 pm
Thurkean, covered in rags, cloth, and other miscellaneous wrappings, looks for signs of the group he was expected to meet as part of the King's Rangers. He finds the group at the stables, readying themselves for the journey while talking out plans. He silently joins them and makes himself known to the bearded man.

The cold is biting and painful despite his efforts to cover himself from it. He ponders about the decision he made to join the King's Rangers as continuing his trapping trade would have him dwelling in warmer lands. He shakes it off, knowing that it wouldn't have lasted much longer.
Feb 5, 2017 10:43 pm
Ragnar and Odin draw their swords at the lizardfolk who had joined them. "Who are you? And what do you want with us?"
Feb 5, 2017 11:06 pm
"I am part of the King's Rangers" He says with a raspy and somewhat quiet voice, only slightly suprised with the drawing of weapons "I was summoned to this Lighthill"

Feb 6, 2017 12:23 am
"I see." The two men soon turn towards the bandit.
Feb 6, 2017 3:26 am
Enialis flees to the biggest tree that is closest to him as he has not yet prepared his spellbook. He is sure to keep his quarterstaff within reach as he might have a use for a blunt object that could pose as a weapon.
Feb 6, 2017 4:50 am
Thurkear turns to the now-visible, bow-wielding bandit and runs toward him with little deliberation.

Rethune retrieves his short bow and notches an arrow. His heart is pounding in his chest. He has been honing his hunting skills with his mentor for years but this is the first time he has been without his protective covering; a constant presence assuring safety. That was until a month ago when an orc raiding party was simply too much for the two of them. The man who practically raised him sacrificed himself to ensure his survival. Quickly he shakes his head to regain focus and draws back waiting for an opening.
Feb 6, 2017 11:51 pm
Piper immediately reacts, preparing to retaliate against the reckless attacker.

Alright so the initiative is Sinnj, Piper, Thurkear, Rethune, Enialis, and then the bandit.

As Sinnj looks towards the man with the bow shooting at him and the others, he begins to focus on him while speaking in an arcane language,
OOC:
Casting sleep on him, to try and incapacitate him quickly

Rolls

Spell Attk (Sleep) - (1d20+5)

(19) + 5 = 24

Feb 13, 2017 6:31 pm
You soon see him start to curl up on the ground where he is and sleep.
Feb 14, 2017 2:35 pm
Rethune relaxes his bow and begins to scan around for other would be assailants.

Rolls

Perception check - (1d20)

(20) = 20

Feb 14, 2017 2:58 pm
Walking over to confirm that the thief was soundly asleep, Sinnj looks to the others,

"He was probably looking for a quick exit from here, same as everyone else. He will be asleep long enough for us to leave before he can give us any more trouble."
Feb 14, 2017 2:58 pm
You don't see anything. There are no other bandits.
Feb 14, 2017 3:42 pm
Enialis walks out from behind the tree. Phew! That was close.
OOC:
Natural twenty? GG.
Feb 14, 2017 9:45 pm
Thurkear stands over the bandit, contemplating his hunger, but remembering how soft skins react to the consumption of their own kind. He turns toward Sinnj. Shall we leave him in this cold? , Thurkear says in an emotionless whisper. He proceeds to bend over and attempts to take any lose wrappings of cloth from the bandit's sleeping form.
Feb 15, 2017 6:28 am
He makes his way back with the group with a completed spellbook in his left hand and a quarterstaff in the right. Is he dead? he says to the group.
Feb 15, 2017 3:16 pm
His heart still beats Thurkear says, turning his attention to Enialis.
Feb 15, 2017 3:33 pm
We shall take him with us. Even though he is a bandit, he is still a humanoid. He turns to Thurkear. Someone will need to carry him. He turns his attention back to the entire group. In the event that he awakens, I am more than confident that we can handle it.

Total HP: 18/18

2nd Level: 2/2

Thurkear, remembering that he was to do what they say, picks up the bandit. He finds comfort in the newfound warmth. It does irk him, though, that the soft-skins are so protective of their own kind. The soft-skin ways are very wasteful He thinks to himself.

"Excuse me, sir, but what are you doing with that man?" Ragnar asks.
Feb 15, 2017 11:28 pm
Thurkear looks at Enialis.
Feb 16, 2017 1:26 am
Sinnj looks back and forth between Thurkear, Ragnar, Enialas, and the sleeping man, before shrugging,

"I still like the plan of leaving him behind to deal with his fate when he wakes up, but as long as I have no responsibility to care for him in, during his slumber or after, do with him as you wish."

With that Sinnj walks off to find a mount that would be suitable for him.
Feb 16, 2017 3:05 am
Enialis speaks to Sinnj as he walks away, There is no telling when the spell will naturally wear off. By the time we come back for him, he could be gone. Enialis then turns to Ragnar. Shall we leave him in the cold or restrain him for later questioning?
Feb 16, 2017 3:08 am
"Let's get him out. He was probably trying to find supplies for his family. His wife left with their children several days ago."
Feb 16, 2017 3:15 am
Shall we consume him for sustenance? Thurkear suggests in an unsure tone. He is very hungry.
Feb 16, 2017 3:28 am
Rethune looks at Thurkear appalled. Shaking his head he chides him, "Leave the man be." Rethune follows to select a mount.
Feb 16, 2017 3:36 am
Alright. Thurkear says, irked again by the alien customs of the soft-skins. He follows the others, the warm bandit still in his arms.
Feb 16, 2017 3:49 am
Ignoring the lizard beasts abnormal habits, he says, Shall we attempt to wake him up now and do our questioning? It will only take but a small amount of time.
Feb 16, 2017 4:17 am
Looking at Thurkear, Sinnj lets his suggestions digest for a moment, then smiles and says nothing. Turning towards the rest of the group,

If we are to take him along, he will either need to be bound and tied to a horse to keep him from falling off, or woken up. I would like to remind everyone that our first interaction with him was dodging arrows, so I can only imagine what he will think to wake up tied to a horse. It would be worth the effort to disarm him completely, if you are planning on waking him prior to placing him on a mount of his own.

usually, when you tie someone up, it's not a question of actually tying the rope, it's a question of how easy your tying is to break out of. That was the purpose of the check.

Finding the nearest one to him, he reacts in the quickest way he knows how, by pointing to it and willing the magic to flow through him and towards his target. As it does it takes the form of magical arrows that leap forth into the side of the wolf he is pointing towards.

(4) + 1 = 5

Missile Dmg - (1d4+1)

(4) + 1 = 5

if you haven't attacked yet, I would say go for it. The DM said the party would attack first. And I think there is only one other person who hasn't acted yet.

Doesn't matter what order the PC's go in; it only matters that they get their attack in before the enemy or else they lose their turn.

You cannot get away, I will not let you attack another trying to escape this destruction! Only to be attacked by savage beasts!
Erdan twists his arm back around and swings the warhammer with anger, backhanding the wolf with the weapon.
