"Eh, that one might'a been killed before the ice," admits Ulfren. "For us and the crone, didn't seem like time passed by."

After some consideration, Ulfren continues, "Maybe Dirk died first, then we was froze? But then, he was off the ship, and we would'a seen if that happened. Don't make sense."

With only his feet stickin' above the ice, he musta hit the water before the freeze.

"Fascinating! Interesting point about Dirk, but I think you have puzzled out some possible answers, Ulfren. Billy, the old woman ... do we know if she beaned the orc with her before or after the big freeze?"

"Who knows, this may be an issue of distance rather than intelligence. Perhaps the closer we get to the source, the more lethal the freezing effect was?"

"Alas, all we have is conjecture at this point. Too many questions to form a theo... Hey! Ryyrik! Wait up!"

"Well, it's like I told you back on the Endurance and at the first homestead: my field of study is the application of magic to rather than the nature of magic, which is the territory of mages. The orc was killed when the freeze took it. That's all I can determine. Sorry, boys, I wish I could tell you more."

Gunnar rises. "So what's the p-- heads up, movement at 12 o'clock!"
he moves off and sets his gun's sights at the source of the movement .

Come ta think of it, Phineas, the old woman seemed ta think we brung the ice with us after she killed the orc. He listens to Gunnar's report and claps him on the back. Well, my boy, it ain't yer area, but yer the closest we got to an expert!

He hoists his pack onto his shoulders and says, I reckon we ain't gonna learn any more from these-- Did ya hear that? He pauses at the sign of movement and casts Guidance on whichever of the party's skilled hunter/trackers investigate.

"Why would we bring the ice?" asks Ulfren, then looks to the sky. "And I don't think it's lunch, yet."

Baern turns to the movement, searching for any signs of what it may be.

Ryyrik changes course and moves to the movement, warhammer and shield on standby.

Ulfren is still assessing the position of the sun.

Ryyrik follows the green figure, trying to keep low to the ground.

"What're you lot doing over there?" Ulfren calls out.

Baern follows the green creature quickly.

Baern follows suit, reaching a full run now.

Phineas tries to identify the creature while trying to keep pace with everyone else.

Gunnar tracks the green creature with his rifle sight.
