Baern peers intently at the statues. "I'm not so sure they are warding themselves," he says slowly. "I've heard tell of a reptilian beast as could petrify those that looks him in the eye with a mere glance. There are creatures out there 'at can do this to a fellow, I'm not so sure we should be as elated as Phineas' optimism would have us be."

Phineas is undeterred by Baern's skepticism.

"Even if it was only these few Dwarves that were frozen in stone, that is more Dwarves than I was expecting to find from our time. We should continue to investigate of course, go to the heart of the mountain halls and see what we see.

Are we ready? We should take the most direct route possible."

Phineas glimpses the statues one last time. He pauses long enough to strap his old wooden buckler to his arm, and then follows Ulfren in silence.

Ryyrik growls at the sound of skittering, under his breath he scoffs "Better hope they are dwarves, if not the are desecrating this home and deserve no mercy; and I will be more than happy to show them the exit." It is clear, he is talking to his hammer and not to anyone in particular.

Ulfren presses forward without pause. Whatever might be lurking out of sight can just keep running if it wants to, as each step taken brings the dwarves closer to their destination.

As you come closer to a bend in the tunnel, which should be almost to the door heading up to the next guard tower, you hear skittering again and then silence.

Ulfren rounds the corner before he sees anything...
The darkness in the corner of the wall, just above a doorway seems endless. Two spiders come out of the darkness, followed by a large spider leg, followed by more. A slender, pale arm emerges from above the spider legs and a voice breakers the silence.

"I haven't had any play things for quite some time. Tonight we shall feast upon their flesh!"

Phineas quietly hides behind his wooden shield, but firmly anchors his druidic focus in his other hand. He takes a long moment to breathe in the strength of the surrounding stone, calming his nerves.
