OOC:
Not that you necessarily need the boost with those rolls, but Phineas cast Guidance, so you get an extra d4 to your checks.

Added the d4 roll. Thanks!

As far as history goes, Gunnar has never read about something like this, gods blasted areas, powerful mages blowing up mountain sides, but never what appears to be large scale frozen time. He knows the magic used to do this was very powerful, and that the lord dabbled in some arcane, but nothing like this.

The captain calls you all back on the ship and the wizard casts something on the ship and the front glows a light blue. The sails glide open and the ship lurches forward, breaking the ice and creating a swath through the ice. Several crew members watch over the front of the ship, they try to look casual, but they are intensely watching the thickness of the ice.

"A unique phenomenon then?" Phineas posits to Gunnar. "I'll be sure to take thorough notes in case they are of use to the Academy."

Baern nods silently to Phineas' attempts to console him. His words have awakened the pain he feels always and it throbs fiercer within him, making him want to lash out at the druid, but the sharp pain has strengthened his resolve and he holds back, walking silently to the prow to watch the ship break its way through the ice.

Ulfren stands watch over Dirk Clawhammer's body, and sings a Dwarvish song of mourning, part of the last rites and final goodbyes.

Crow's nest roll. Might be uses soon.

The ship keeps going, but everyone can feel a gradual slowing of the movement.

[b][/"I don't know what you got me an me crew into, but we'll stay and have yer back until we figure it out."b] The captain says.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20)

(15) = 15

Phineas has been listening, spellbound, to Ulfren's song, filled with sad thoughts.

When the captain speaks up, he turns to the group.

"Shall we move directly to Lord Reinhel's keep? Or perhaps to some high ground and get the lay of the land first? Wait, did Dirk have any maps of the island?"
Feb 12, 2017 1:29 am
"I'd say any maps, if they existed might be a little outdated. I do know he was inland on the island." The captain responds.

Billy will accompany on the dulcimer.

Well, Billy says to the Captain, I reckon an outdated map is better than no map. Let's go on and go if we're goin'.

Phineas looks out onto the island and searches for potential dangers, letting the moon and stars guide his attention.

Rolls

Perception + Guidance - (1d20+5, 1d4)

1d20+5 : (8) + 5 = 13

1d4 : (1) = 1

Feb 12, 2017 4:45 pm
The only real danger Phineas sees is the ice currently.

After a grudgingly slow pace, the ship gets closer to ice formations and rocks jutting from the frozen tundra.

"I don't think we can go much further." The captain declares.

After his song and musical accompaniment, Ulfren busies himself with wrapping Dirk Clawhammer's body in cloth and tying it secure. He prepares to carry the body by himself if need be.
Feb 12, 2017 5:48 pm
Gunnar breaks out his carpenter's tools and busies himself building a sled for Dirk's body, as well as any extra supplies or provisions the group might night.

"Are you planning on taking the body with you? We can keep it here until you come back, unless you plan on doing your rites on the island." The captain interjects.

OOC:
I was kind of wondering myself if we were looking at a Lonesome Dove, drag the body cross-country scenario. Which would be ironic since I've been modeling Billy's speech patterns on Gus McRae. And we have our bags of holding for supplies.

"His rites will not be performed here!" Ryyrik yells "He deserves to sleep in the land he came from not some barren frostscape that holds no meaning to any of us."
Feb 12, 2017 8:38 pm
"What's the decision, then? I'm all for Dirk watching under the land we dug," says Ulfren, his voice then growing quieter as he approaches the team. "But do we trust this lot with his watch? The dwarves on this boat might understand, but what about the others?"

Baern maintains his silence.
