Ulfren begins going through the main room, primarily concerned with anything that might be moving or otherwise inhabiting the outpost. He starts with the common area and pauses to check the northern door.
Dec 6, 2017 5:04 pm
Ulfren finds the outpost abandoned and falling apart from disuse.
Dec 6, 2017 5:13 pm
Ulfren will wait for the others to catch up after their own investigations. While he does, he moves to the main entrance to open the doors and look outside. He does not attempt to venture out, but rather secure the portal while his companions do their work.

The door opens hard, after removing the bar from the back, as it appears to have been closed for sometime. Peeking out, the road sems weed ridden and desolate. It appears to be empty and you see no signs of life.

"Clear!" Gunnar calls out as he finishes sweeping each area for threats.
Dec 7, 2017 1:21 am
Phineas rejoins the group and shrugs.

"Nothing much here."
Dec 11, 2017 6:08 pm
"Easy to see why those squatters had such a time," grunts Ulfren.
OOC:
What time of day is it? If it's getting late, Ulfren will suggest camping in the outpost for the night. Otherwise, he'd want to press on.

OOC:
The sun is just heading down and you might have a couple hours of daylight left.
Dec 12, 2017 12:01 am
Ulfren stands in the doorway in thought. "How far's the closest settlement from here?" he asks of the others. "I figure we got a couple of hours left. If we can make it, maybe we can try. Otherwise we ought to hole up here, secure the post, and head out in the morning."

OOC:
You might make the main gate by nightfall you'd know.
Dec 12, 2017 12:20 am
"That close, huh?" says Ulfren. "All right, let's see if we can find any kin." Unless there are objections, he starts a paced march towards the gates.
Dec 12, 2017 3:10 pm
Let's put feet to stone, then, girls! Billy exclaims as he belts out a little traveling music before following Ulfren.
Dec 13, 2017 6:57 am
Phineas marvels at Billy's playing, filling him with nostalgia of his people's music. He looks to the sympathetic stone and the swaying grasses and sees that the land, too, has missed the beautiful sounds of the People Under the Mountain.

We will relight the hearth fires and fill this mountain with earnest joy once again!

With Billy's music, he finds it easy to keep up with Ulfren for a change.
Dec 13, 2017 12:05 pm
Gunnar marches along in time to the beat of Billy's music.
Dec 14, 2017 1:29 am
Along the path, you all see landmarks and things you recognize, but they are overgrown with weeds and at several points, the path disappears completely. If you didn't know the way, you might have gotten lost. Statues once lined the last bit of road as you come through turns to wind up to the plateau the gates should be on, but the only thing remaining are the feet of stone. The area is also oddly quiet and devoid of life.

The road turns a few more times in front of you, and you ind more and more rubble leading up the way. The gates should be just around the bend past the meadow.
Dec 26, 2017 6:20 pm
Ulfren maintains his march. Though the presence of ruined stone would normally slow his pace, the lack of dwarven life concerns him more.
Dec 26, 2017 7:54 pm
Phineas fights the urge to transform into a gazelle and spring forward. He believes whole-heartedly that his people are still alive, merely trapped in stone. He knows that it will not be easy, but he can't help but think that there's still a chance to prove to his father that his path was a worthy one.

Instead, he contents himself with matching his stride with mighty Ulfren's, and attunes his mind with the rock and wind around him.

As the party comes around the lasr bend, the terrace that leads to the gates seems... bigger. As eyes travel forward to what should be the grand gates to your ancestral home, you see rubble. A huge section of the mountain has just collapsed in on the front where the gates once stood. The stonework from the gates is nowhere in sight and seem like the mountain imploded. Other than the rubble, the terrace is empty, no bodies, no bones, no weapons, nothing but rubble.
Dec 27, 2017 4:57 pm
Ulfren rests his hand on the eye of his axe, staring at the rubble. "Phineas," he says, "this look like we brought it down ourselves?"
Dec 28, 2017 4:56 am
Phineas falls to his knees when he realizes what he is seeing.

"Ulfren! The gates ... "

Somehow he had expected the gates to outlast time itself, so grand and strong were they. He pulls himself to his feet at Ulfren's steady words, and stares at him for a moment, as if seeing the strength in Ulfren's worn features could grant him the strength to carry on.

Nothing seems to come from that except Ulfren looking at him like he's a being a nit. But when courage fails, sometimes embarrassment can substitute. "Yes, I'll investigate right away" he mumbles. Then he shakes himself and approaches the massive rubble-strewn terrace.

Phineas surveys the massive boulders that choke the grand entrance of his ancestral home, but instead of focusing on those, he picks up a mere pebble. "You don't belong here," he whispers. "Tell me your tale, sad stone."
OOC:
Casting Guidance to assist in an perception check to look for signs of what cause of the collapse (total roll = 12).

Rolls

Perception + Guidance - (1d20+6, 1d4)

1d20+6 : (5) + 6 = 11

1d4 : (1) = 1
