Phineas returns to the campfire and takes a plate from Billy.

"Thank you Billy."
He takes a mouthful, then declares: "Delicious! You are a Dwarf of many talents."

After a few moments, he speaks his mind

"Say, Billy, we found a dead human in the farm house. Looked like he was slain, then froze after he died. We probably won't be able to dig a grave in this frozen ground, but would a funeral pyre be appropriate for these people? He has waited a long time to be put to rest, and if we can give him that at least we would have accomplished something on this cursed journey."

Baern turns from the house to the fire, keeping his distance a bit from it.

OOC:
Oh yeah, I guess I kind of forgot I'm a cleric! I was going to have Billy say something about the bodies being empty shells, but I guess that's not quite right. I have the voice, but not all the motivations of the character yet. I'll have a better response when I have a little more time.

A couple hours, its late morning.
That would be expected for Gunnar.
Feb 20, 2017 4:48 am
With relish, Gunnar partakes of the food Billy prepared, then hands the group's designated cook the jars of preserved fruit and vegetables from the farmhouse's larder. As the talk turns to a funeral pyre, Gunnar wonders if it would be wise to announce their presence with a smoke column, but he leaves his thoughts unspoken for the time being. He looks for the highest vantage point available and starts climbing. Once in position he takes out a spyglass to have a look around.

Billy takes the preserved food, marking down the inventory on a piece of paper before putting them in his BoH. He starts cleaning out his cookware as he says, I imagine the humans have funerary rights same as us. Most folk won't object to a good fire taking care a their remains. But a pyre is a bit different than a cook fire. From the looks a these, there ain't even animal scavengers around, but ya never know what a big enough fire might attract. And it might be a good idea fer us to hold onto this firewood. Mebbe we gather some rocks fer a cairn, then head on our way. We gotta lot a daylight left and a good long way to go, so I spect we better get to it.

Billy starts gathering rocks to cover the human with. When the job is done and the cairn is built, he says a prayer over the human's resting place. He goes off by himself to say a prayer over the bodies of the Orcs, knowing his companions may not understand the respect he offers for even an enemy such as these.

When he returns, he says, Ryyrik, you had a chance to check the tracks a these Orcs? See where they came from? Or did this happen so long ago none a that is here ta see? As he says this, Billy puts his hand on Ryyrik's back and casts Guidance to give the ranger a better chance to track.

Phineas joins Billy in gathering stones for the human's cairn. As they complete the task, he thinks about whether or not his parents and grandparents are in their tombs, or even his sisters. Deeply troubled by these thoughts, he falls silent.

"If we're ready to move, I guess I can take a look." Ryyrik takes a drink from his flask, corks it, stands and makes his way outside.

Rolls

Survival (Favored Enemy Adv.) - (1d20+1, 1d20+1)

1d20+1 : (12) + 1 = 13

1d20+1 : (5) + 1 = 6

Guidance - (1d4)

(2) = 2

As you look out into the distance, you see houses dotting the landscape, but they get closer together the further you look. It appears you see some green just on the edges of your ability to see.

OOC:
I should've clarified, that was to look for any orc tracks leading away. What you described sounds more like perception, which would be +3 and not at advantage (which I guess wouldn't matter, since the higher number was first).

Baern eats some food, nodding silent thanks to Billy when they make eye contact. He helps to build the cairn, using his tree form's exceptional size to lift some of the larger stones. After that he falls silent.

Snow and ice have long covered any tracks.
Feb 20, 2017 1:56 pm
"Aye, I thought as much, tracks are long since gone. If we aren't in any rush, give me a minute and I'll sense if there is anyone living out there."
OOC:
I'll do Primeval Awareness, if we are*n't* in a rush.

Death seems ta have taken a grip, and I'll gladly slow my pace for the chance ta have any sign a life in this wasteland. Is there anything I can do to help, Ryyrik?
Feb 20, 2017 4:06 pm
Gunnar comes down from his lookout perch and rejoins the others, shaking his head. "Nothing but ice and snow as far as I could see, even with this". he holds the spyglass. "Might've been a hint of green much, much further on."

"I think we should move," Baern says flatly. "Everything around here is dead, and if it isn't we'll find out as soon by coming up on it as by looking for it."
OOC:
Ryyrik, are you UA ranger or PHB?
Feb 20, 2017 5:44 pm
"The man's frozen," Ulfren grunts. "Wasting your time with him, I say. If he ain't thawed by now, he ain't gonna be even with your fire."
OOC:
Whoops, this was old RP that was meant to be posted last night. Sorry, I'll write another one.
Ulfren lends his assistance in gathering stones, to speed up the job. As the reports come in what might be around, he nods along with Baern, "Aye, the boy's got the right of it. If nothing came around to clean this place up, likely there's nothing around. Not saying we don't need to keep our eyes open, but this be a pretty big clue that anyone still moving is somewhere else."

"If y'all don't want to wait a single minute to gain useful information then let's be on our way. We're late to our mission by a thousand years, our employers going to be cross with us for those extra minutes, huh." Ryyrik storms off prodding his stick in front of him as he does.
OOC:
Ryyrik is UA.
Feb 21, 2017 1:03 am
Baern shrugs. "I think that would be a good use of a minute, but I was speaking simply in general terms. I was expressing my desire to move sometime soon rather than stay here for a prolonged period of time. I too will attune my sense to nature and discover what I can." Baern kneels and places a hand spread on the ice, his eyes closed as his arm turns a brownish color and begins to give off a slight green aura.
Using Primeval Awareness
OOC:
If Ryyrik's Favored Enemy is humanoids too then I'll retcon this not to happen.
