"Cursed to serve, but yes we all are here."

Phineas gets the feeling this is a curse or reward from a missing god or goddess put upon these people.
Feb 1, 2018 2:28 am
"All? Right, ya mentioned there were three," says Ulfren. "So if'n you all don't care to work, what do you do if ye're supposed to serve?"
Feb 1, 2018 3:25 am
After they answer Ulfren's question, Phineas asks "What god or goddess did this to you? Why are they gone? What happened?"

We simply offered trade, rest and guidance when the temple was used, now, I just sit here on this porch. Just a minor goddess, they were driven out, or bandoned us or killed. No one really knows. Their magic is still here though.

Ulfren scratches his chin. "Where's this temple? That where the rest of your people are? Maybe they have more answers?"

Gunnar keeps his head on a swivel.

An ancient looking woman walks up behind you and clears her throat, "Our people are gone, but isn't it your people you are looking for? The entrance to your mine hasn't seen use in sometime. I don't know what befell your kin, but the sense of strong and dark magic waved across this land a long time ago, about the time the dwarves from this mountain disappeared."
Feb 3, 2018 11:51 pm
"And how long ago was that?" Ulfren asks.

"Time is different for us here, centuries maybe almost a thousand years ago, I can't be certain."
Feb 4, 2018 6:27 pm
"Time be different for us, too," Ulfren mutters to himself. "So you's just doomed to stay here without anything to do?"
Feb 5, 2018 12:03 am
We get visitors from time to time. We can leave anytime we wish, and cross over to the other realms to face our fate, but I believe I'll like it better here.

Ulfren nods. "You have my thanks, strange ones," he says, then turns to the other dwarves. "I make for the mine in the morning. Any that want to come with, we can camp on the edge of town."
Feb 17, 2018 8:01 pm
Phineas tags along and helps set up the camp.

"Goodberry smoothies, anyone? Maybe they got an immortal cow around here we can milk."

Once camp is set, he will sit down at the campfire.

"This is an auspicious night. Tomorrow, dwarves will once again walk beneath The Mountain. Does anyone know a song that might mark this moment?"

"I will have no infernal milk from a cursed cow to pass this beard," Ulfren snorts, but he accepts a Goodberry.

He sits with the berry uneaten in his palm, in uncomfortable thought. Finally, he says, "There is an old song we would sing when our fellows had the wanderin' hearts, the ones that thought it best to see the sky instead-a the stone beneath the feet. We used to sing it to the families they left behind as cons'lation, so maybe it's not ow-spicious like ye said."

Ulfren coughs, uncertain. After a furtive glance around, he begins, "It goes like this..."

The night fades away and nothing bothers your slumber and you are fully rested.

Overnight, Ulfren scalped the drider head and dried the gruesome trophy by the fire, taking care to preserve as much of the hair as possible. The rest of the skull is discarded.

In the morning, Ulfren silently breaks camp and packs his equipment. When all is ready, he ties the drider scalp to his belt and hefts a javelin. "If you lads be ready, let's get movin'. There's a mine we aim to find!"

"I'm good to go." Gunnar says, his breath frosting in the wind.
Feb 20, 2018 7:32 pm
"Hey! Ho! Let's go!"

Phineas prepares the same spells as yesterday. Before going to bed last night, he made 60 fresh goodberries and gave 2 to each party member, keeping the remaining 54.

You head into the cave and come out in an old trail leading up. The trail appears to have been once traveled, but is now getting some rubble built up in it. The path is still clear enough to travel on, but at some spots the party is forced to zig or zig to get around some boulders. Along the path are some stone sconces that once held torches to light the path. The torches are missing, either rotted or stolen long ago. The terrain slopes up, but it is not a back breaking steep climb.
