Larry tries to stab the thing in the head, but misses, then Mark appears and leaps into an incredible flying kick, knocking it stumbling into the bedroom. Karabekian dodges to one side, leaps past the two of them and through the door.

Larry drags Mark with him back to his room and shuts and bars the door. He slides the ledgers between the mattress to conceal it.

Leaving the door open so has not to slow him down, Larry hobbles down the stairs with Mark. He gets halfway down and hear's the thing shambling behind. Reaching the landing of the second floor, there's a rush of footsteps from the floor below as two police officers come running up.

Once in his room Karabekian locks the door and frantically stuffs the three books and a change of clothes into a valise, and prepares to leave for his book shop.
