Valentin backs up against the south wall in between the bed and the wardrobe, giving quick looks between Larry, karabekian, and the entrance way.

Watching the hideous thing, Larry tries to step out towards the doorway to see if it moves towards him or keeps it's eyes locked on the book. If it does move towards him or watch him, he'll stop, otherwise Larry stands in the doorway watching this horror play out.

Karabekian's eyes nearly pop out of their sockets as they stare, suddenly bloodshot, at the thing that used to be Gardiner. Karabekian clasps the Book of Dreams to his chest, hands clutching claw-like at the tome..

Clutching the obsidian knife in his pocket, Larry slowly slide towards the door and watches to see if it follows him or stares at the book Karabekian has.

Is readying and attack a thing in CoC? If so Larry does it.Last edited February 16, 2017 11:08 pm

No readying just straight up attack
If the target is dodging: the attacker’s Fighting skill is opposed by the target’s Dodge skill. If the character performing the maneuver achieves a higher level of success than the character dodging, the maneuver is successful (if tied, the target is able to dodge the maneuver).
If the target is fighting back: the attacker’s Fighting skill is opposed by the target’s Fighting skill. If the character fighting back achieves a higher level of success, the maneuver fails and the opponent inflicts damage on the character performing the maneuver (if tied, the maneuver is successful).
The target of an attack may use a maneuver of their own: Resolve as for fighting back, but instead of inflicting damage, apply the effect of their maneuver.

Striking the First Blow (Surprise)
Something must happen to start a combat; someone must strike the first blow. Opponents may square up to each other like two boxers in the ring, knowing they are engaged in a ght even before the first punch is thrown. If this is the case, the Keeper should start a combat round.
Alternatively the attack may be a complete surprise; a sudden knee to the groin or punch to the jaw, for example. When someone states that they are making a sudden, unexpected attack, they should have the opportunity to surprise their opponent.

"You can't have it! It's mine now!" Karabekian growls. He pushes against the bookshelf, intending to topple it over on top of the thing's head.
OOC:
Is the Thing standing close enough to the bookshelf for this to be a viable course of action? What should I roll? If it isn't viable then Karabekian just runs for it instead. Feb 17, 2017 1:43 am

If you do it now, you have a chance, but the bookcase is huge. It'll be a hard strength rollFeb 17, 2017 2:03 am
"Help me with this!" Karabekian grunts to those with him in the bedroom as he attempts to topple the book case.

Larry is already inching his way against the wall toward the door and Valentin is backed into one corner of the bedroom. Karabekian puts all his weight behind it but the bookshelf won't topple.
The Gardiner- Thing pipes a dreadful whistling from its throat-orifice, As it shuffles toward the bedroom.
