Karabekian's eyes widen as he reads. Here are spiral shapes resembling Gardiner's wounds. And there, the chant that contains, verbatim, the inscription on the bloody scrap before the corpse! Clearly the police, if they were to see this book, will judge Gardiner's actions those if a raving lunatic and close the case.
And they will store this book in evidence, where it will never again see the light of day. But Karabekian must learn more - he must have this book! His thoughts race, trying to decide what to do next. Is there time to copy it? His eyes scan the room and comes to rest on the nighstand. There is The Dreamer's Dictionary! Karabekian moves to the bedstand and accidentally shoulder bumps Larry as he is reaching into the drawer. There's a clatter an the obsidian knife falls from his hands and lands on the floor.
The old man Valentin enters the bedroom area quickly to check the two of you are ok.
Then a dragging sound on the floor in the main part of the room grabs your attention...
