I'd like to figure out what the white powder is, and read through the diary.

OK just need to choose the background elements and add them to your background and indicate which is your Key element (the thing that centres you ( used for sanity recovery)

You can also use this key element during downtime for 'self help' . If you'd like to do that , describe what you're doing. it's simply a Sanity roll. As you are using your key connection ( you are able to do this without it but for the first time and as a demonstration of the system, you are using it this time) you get to roll the 'tens' twice, so roll d100 and an additional d10 and take the best results.

The key element is he knife. I hate to do it, but what popped into my mind was that he uses it to cut himself in hidden areas and it soothes his soul... some.

Hmm, I don't have a problem with that, though it goes against the grain a little. The knife was sold to Gardiner, which suggests Larry doesn't have much of a connection with it, at least prior to him letting it go. The self harm also suggests some level of insanity that we haven't quite reached yet!
The grave of your grandparent might be better, somewhere you visit to relieve stress. Of course, there's nothing to say that as time goes by this can't change and the self harm can be incorporated?

How about the last place he and his grandfather spent time together? He would go down to the river by a small water runoff from a canal, like a waterfall and sit and listen to the water and think about the many fish he caught here with his grandpa?

Sure! The dice indicated a grave of a loved one was a significant place but you can make it whatever you like!

Oh.. and his Grandfather was cremated and his ashes are buried in this location!

OOC:
Nice! Now to piss on your cornflakes for failing that san roll/..
OOC:
In the intervening months you visited the site only find the whole area has turned into a building site for some new riverside development.

- 1 Sanity (and you no longer have a key element!)
