Character Journal: Malficar, The Rival

My name is Vortigan Corinthos, I appear to be in my late twenties, but I am not. My mind holds the secrets of a lifetime, and those secrets have made me ageless, and anachronistically challenged in the 21st Century. However, I am powerful, more powerful than most mundane humans can even conceive of, I walk amongst them as an equal, but they are insignificant and minuscule to me. Hardly worth acknowledging...at all.

I have taken the title of Malficar in the Lodge. The meaning of that title is difficulty to explain to the uninitiated, but I will attempt within this journal to make it clear to you, if I can...

I, like Cedric Jensen, am a ring-bearer. I am oft referrred to as "The Rival" in the Lodge, this is due primarily to the conceit that the Grayson Ring chose Mr. Jensen over me, even after I was ordained to bear in in this century. In fact, I already had, on several occasions used the Ring in activities that were sanctioned by the Lodge. The power of the Ring is remarkable, beyond the imagination of even the most profound creators of the mortal world. It can do things that could reshape reality itself.

I was chosen to wield it.

It decided otherwise, and left with young Mr. Jensen. The details of that are not important, simply the act. I vowed to make it my life's work to return it to the Lodge, and to wield it for the betterment of all members. And for that, they call me: The Rival.
