Beast shape is really OP. Just gonna say. You do better damage (probably), don't lose your mental ability scores and probably improve your physical ones, and get an extra set of HP to keep you alive in combat. Add to that that you can use it for purposes other than combat such as surveillance, espionage and travel. Especially with the ability to heal oneself while in beast form by expending spell slots!? I don't know why the Circle of the Land is even competition. Extra spells is great, but it can't compare with the versatility of Circle of the Moon. Especially since the spells are constrained to a certain area you supposedly came from. And the circle's other stuff is mostly fluff until you get to a really high level. Admittedly some of the new UA circles are pretty solid, but Circle of the Moon is still insane.

I don't have too much to add but I'll just voice my thoughts on the subject. First I agree that druid's wild shape is amazing and I agree that circle of the moon is better than circle of the land. No class in the game can out dps or take more damage at level 2 than a circle of the moon druid (although barbarians are a close second with reckless attacks and the damage reduction from rage). But that doesn't make either wild shape nor druids op. Because other classes just receive their power spikes later. Take fireball as an example. At 5th level wizards and sorcerers ges access to fireball which sends their damage through the roof! As time goes by spells become more powerful and wild shape becomes weaker and weaker until it becomes more of a utility option.

Fair point. As the character levels, the Wild Shape options don't exactly, so by the time a character reaches 20 a Mammoth is a druid's best combat option. While amazing, a Mammoth is restrained to certain styles of combat and honestly just isn't that stellar when compared to the opponents a character will be facing at lvl 20. I thought about making a moon druid in a one-and-done 20th lvl game I was in, but decided against it for that very reason.

I will be offline Tuesday and Wednesday for orientation. Just a heads up to let you know. :)

Thanks for letting me know!!

@CouchLord
Yeah and transforming into elementals can be very useful too. Also, I don't mind if you level up your wild shape animals instead of picking new animals and using the standard. As your CR goes up you can add extra hps, attack ac... I don't have the monster manual or dmg on me right now but I know there are rules for it.

Also, I have an extra roleplay assignment for you if you like. Did you know that druids can only wild shape into animals that they have seen? Anyway, I don't want you to worry about it but every time you wild shape into a new animal how about you write a paragraph detailing how Que first encountered that animal? Maybe like a flashback or something? It's just a thought. As always, do as you like :)

What's the difference between these two? I've never heard of this, so I'm curious.

Sounds like a plan!

Check page 274 of the DMG. If you want to use the MM then we can find higher level monsters with similar stats and reskin your animal forms.

I found page 247 and I don't see how it relates...

274 right? Not 247. Let me recheck. Yeah it's there. The section called modifying a monster.

Just a quick note. I need to know who touched the obelisk before entering the tunnel. By my count Que, Magak, Rabe, Saris and Glòrendil touched the Obelisk. Did anyone else?

Vriss'ka doesn't see any need to, the path is open. they were going to investigate, search for traps that sort of thing, but now there's no need.

I didn't RP it, but Que did (touch the statue). Even after the path opened, she'd be curious to see what happened so she'd touch it. I already subtracted her HP.

Yeah I found it now but can you run me through the difference between what you're suggesting and what the PHB puts forward for Druid levelling? Are you talking about my shapes leveling up with me instead of the CR rating I'm allowed to use increasing...?

As your ability to wild shape allows you to shift into higher CR creatures you could:
A) shift into new animals.
B) level up your existing shapes into higher CR versions. So you could shift into a CR 2 tiger or Dire Wolf rather than a polar bear.

Oh and I have added Que's name to the list of characters who have touched the obelisk.
Jun 22, 2017 2:10 am
Does this just give me the option to do either/or? So as I level up, in any given situation I can shift into either a CR 2 x or a y, where x is a CR 1 animal and y is a CR 2 animal?

Harbek did not touch the obelisk. He was in the other room looking at the painting again when everyone else did so. Haven't posted yet, because am trying to decide how to play it. Come back in the room and realize the group left the cleric behind, or do something else.

OOC:
They didn't leave you behind. No one enters the tunnel until the party got back together. I'm pretty sure that's what I wrote. I just assumed Harbek went in with the party. No?
