Chapter 2: Willowdark, A Village Renewed

Mar 25, 2017 7:04 pm
Your group makes their way through the town, arriving at the jail just as Edwin, Muldinvane, and the Sheriff are coming out.

Well met. I understand you're the ones we have to thank for the - ahem - fortuitous introduction to Edwin and Muldinvane here. Their timing was shockingly good, to say the very least.
Mar 25, 2017 11:51 pm
"We have you to thank for our release," Kaio says with a respectful nod. "May this go towards repaying that debt. As to the reason for our presence, as you guessed we are members of the Harem sent to help in the procuring of liberty and establishing of security for this town. I and my companions have come to ask how we can continue to fulfill that goal. Thanks to our Mar-- ahem, acquaintances here," he gestures to Edwin and Muldinvane, "we have managed to do away with the majority of our commission significantly quicker than our superiors would have guessed, which leaves us with time to burn towards helping you further."
Mar 26, 2017 12:10 am
"How can I help out?" Thorolf asks the Sheriff.
Mar 26, 2017 12:32 am
It is very fine of you all to offer. We've been speaking with the fine gentlemen here, and we've no personal quarrel with Markindale. I'm sure the king means well, but we've more trade with the Markies than we do our own countrymen. I know we've had some minor bandit problems over the years. They tend to camp in the woods out near the mountains. It's a full day's ride to get to the mountains proper, as I'm sure you all know. We've never been able to properly flush them out, too much effort on trying to avoid Notter and his ilk. Edwin and I were planning some fortifications for Willowdark. Maybe more militant than we're used to, but seemingly more and more important, by the Light. If you could deal with the nest of bandits in the hills, we could possibly make use of any materiel they have squirreled away. he says, stroking his chin. Excuse me one moment. he ducks back into the jail, and returns shortly.

If you'd like, I can offer you formal letters of marque, if you would feel more comfortable acting on official Willowdark orders. These letters, and my expectations, will never take precedence or cross The Bow. She's a friend, and I won't take her men permanently.
Mar 26, 2017 12:37 am
"I'd be willing to do that. I would like a formal letter though."
Mar 26, 2017 12:44 am
Kaio takes the letter offered to him. "Understood. We will relay your message to our comrades, and those of us who accept can move out within the hour. Could we be provided with horses to make our trip the swifter? I personally would also appreciate it if you could point me in the direction of some superior weaponry--I'm willing to pay if necessary. My current blade, while a good one, is not the best use of my skills."

You're free to talk with Mitchell and Evelyn. They run the smithy in town. Not sure what they have. the Sheriff offers.

If they don't have what you seek, come see us in camp. Invited this time. We may be able to help. Muldinvane says gruffly.
Mar 26, 2017 1:26 am
Kaio will listen to whatever other conversation there is, but will then head straight for the smithy. He's looking for a longsword, but is open to other options as well.
OOC:
@Drama, is duel-wielding without off-hand penalty a possibility in the monk class at all? I thought it was, but I can't find it.
Mar 26, 2017 1:30 am
OOC:
What do you mean by off-hand penalty?
Mar 26, 2017 1:33 am
OOC:
As in, no ability mod to the second one like with the Ranger/Fighter's Dual Wielder Fighting Style.
Mar 26, 2017 1:49 am
OOC:
Nope. If they are dual wielding weapons, they do not add mod to damage. However, if they choose to forgo the off-hand weapon attack, and instead attack with an unarmed attack (using either Martial Arts or Flurry of Blows), then they would add it to the unarmed attack.
Mar 26, 2017 2:14 am
OOC:
Which by higher levels does more damage than the actual weapon if its not enchanted... OK, gotcha.

Geran, now himself again, offers his hand out to the Sheriff, Mr. Sheriff sir, I need to- more than the rest of my friends, apologize for my behavior. It was that of an adolescent, and I hope you can forgive me. I am more than willing to help you out further, and yes, a formal letter would be very nice, thank you.
Mar 26, 2017 3:23 pm
No apologies are necessary. I remember my first few forays where I had some authority. I made a right mess of things. You all went out and made things right. You'll always be welcome by my hearth. he says, handing out the letters.

Thank you Mr. Gunnardark. This means a lot to me. he replies, and then speaks to him in telepathy, Praise be to Telluria! That it may see the light of its glory again. Geran turns to his companions, Whilst you mosey about, I can do some scouting of these bandits. I will need one of you, perhaps you Mr. Sherriff? to watch my body while I'm gone though. he quickly follows up with an explanation, Oh don't worry, I won't be dead, I'll just be perceiving everything through my familiars senses, so I won't be aware of my own surroundings. See? suddenly Geran drops to the floor, and Bojangles flies up in front of everyone, See? It's me. Freaky, I know. I'm still getting used to this, but the fun part is this... Bojangles turns invisible, I can spy while being completely hidden. Is everybody fine with my plan? says Geran through the Quasit. Geran returns to his senses and stands up- Bojangles rests on his shoulder.
Mar 26, 2017 7:08 pm
"Thank you, sir." Thorolf says to Gunnardark. He turns to see Geran in his familiar and says, "You need me to go with you? I am more than willing to if you want me to, but if anybody else is interested, that's fine as well."
Mar 26, 2017 8:56 pm
Geran replies Well if you came, that would the whole invisiblity aspect wouldn't it? Also, if my quasit is somehow caught, and even killed then all I would have to do is redo the ritual to bring him back. I say for scouting, it should be left to me while you guys prepare? Also, if I find something, I can immediately jump back to my senses and let you know what's going on instead of causing a delay for the info due to travel. What say you?
Mar 26, 2017 9:09 pm
Kaio, seeing that nothing that necessitate his presence was occurring, would have left by this point.

Rixon accepts the letter with a nod and places it in a pocket inside his thin coat. In my experience, Edwin and Muldinvane are exactly who one should consult for fortifications. I'm pleased Willowdark will be safe, for the time being. Rixon says with an approving nod.

And, further that goal, consider the bandits dealt with.

Turning to Geran and the rest, Rixon speaks quietly, Geran, that's quite the useful trick, and not a bad idea. Just... spare me the details on the 'how'.

Find out what you can quickly; I'd like to keep Kaio's promise of leaving within the hour. We've a long day of travel ahead.

With your letters in hand, you re-group. Edwin and Muldinvane set off toward the general direction of their tents.
OOC:
What is the plan for the Harem's Sextet of champions? Are you all going to group together or are you setting off solo for things? I'm good either way, just need to know what the plan is.
