Hello. I go by the name Gargoyle.

I am a veteran role-player, who has been out of a loop for few years - after moving from one city to another I failed to find a new group to play with, and eventually stopped trying. This spring, after some soul-searching I realised that RPGs was one of the things I've been missing from my life, and I have become active again. I have found myself a group for being a player and am in the process of setting up another for GMing Numenera. Forum-based games sounded like an interesting opportunity to expand my chances for some shared adventuring, so now I'm here.

I have always enjoyed exploring new systems and worlds, so I have experience with a wide variety of games. In past, my favourites have been Earthdawn, Hârnmaster, Buffy: the Vampire Slayer RPG and Iron Kingdoms. Nowadays I am very excited about Numenera, intrigued by 13th Age, and getting familiar with Pathfinder. Generally I am a story-driven role-player, who has always enjoyed creating characters a lot (back in the day I used to have notebooks full of new characters for the systems we were playing back then - it was one of my favourite ways to relax). I also have a semi-active hobby of creative writing, although that's mostly on my native Finnish.

For now, I am looking to just being a player, but who knows - if things work out well, I might also try running a game.

Welcome Gargoyle! I've got a similar story to you, sans the Numenerea, heh. But I do find myself drawn to mechanics-light, story driven games right now.

Well, we certainly do have a number of games running right now that you might be able to hop in on, and as you're going through the site, if you have any thoughts or ideas to help me improve your experience here, let me know!

Welcome indeed :-)

Welcome Gargoyle! A couple of weekends ago my wife and I went (i.e., flew a thousand kilometers) to see our favourite metal band, Nightwish, of your native Finland. Your gaming interests sound a lot like mine, and I've drank deep of the opportunity to play new games here on gamersplane (perhaps committing too much of my time, but how do you stop!), including Numenera, 13th Age, Edge of the Empire, and Fate Accelerated. Also, play-by-post seems to lend itself much more to character driven stories than simple game-mechanics driven games.

Hah! Hope you enjoyed the show. Me and my wife (who is a huge, huge Nightwish fan - and I don't mind them either) don't even have to fly: they'll be playing in July about 1km from where we live :-)

Welcome Gargoyle. I second what Qrallog said: play-by-post games do tend more toward story/narrative driven play, even when the mechanics are involved. It's a little strange for me, coming from a free form play-by-post format to using actual RPGs for play.

Have fun, and we might have a chance to play together sometime.
