Interrogator

So i'm creating this interrogator class (basically a torturer) and I am struggling for a continued advancement. So far I have Charisma and Wisdom stat proficiency, along with Intimidation and persuasion.

I have the following abilities:

Torture: At first level, whenever questioning someone who is tied up or in any way bonded gain advantage on Intimidation.

Interrogator: As a master of interrogation, at first level, gain advantage on your choice of persuasion or insight.

Weakness: At 2nd level, when questioning someone, you may add your strength bonus to your intimidation rolls if you strike them.

Painful Healing: At third level, you understand the pain your victims suffer and have studied to help them heal faster, so they can endure more pain. Gain advantage on Medicine rolls against those you are questioning.

I think it would be better as an archetype for something, like rogue.

Well, I found a homebrew torturer background. I really think with the right tweaks, this could be a solid utility fighter, similar to an anti-bard.

This is interesting, Andrew! The background I have for Zerakas is a gang enforcer/interrogator. That's just his background, mind you, his character class (sorcerer) isn't specifically built around this occupation. Best of luck with the homebrew!

As a class until itself, torturer is pretty weak. A bit narrow. In that case, it definitely seems more like a subclass for something like a rogue or even a bard. Now, it could be a class like Pathfinder's Inquisitor with torturer as a subclass option. I've got a host of thoughts but only my phone atm. I'll type up mre stuff tonight on a keyboard

Idk. I feel as D&D players, we get stuck in these super combat oriented places and are almost neglectful to all non-combat RP styles.

If it will be a complete class, you should probably have it deal with fear in a broader sense rather than simply interrogation. It could certainly start out with "you have advantage on Charisma checks meant to coerce or scare information out of somebody" but it could include later "when you kill an enemy, you can force a nearby enemy to make a wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute" and cap with an "Aura of Menace" type of think.

I was think about an immunity against fear or advantage on saves against fear as well.

Perhaps there could be a Lay on Hands that works backwards.

So I was doing some thinking on this, and here's what I've come up with so far:
a new class called the Justicar. At third level, they have a choice of doctrines, one of which is the Doctrine of Pain. Justicars following that doctrine become adept at torture and interrogation.

The other choices are Doctrine of the Hunt and Doctrine of the Mask. The former is a bounty hunter that will get bonuses to tracking and stealth type things. The latter is an infiltrator that specializes in living among hostile groups in order to execute or capture specific targets.

They would be limited spell casters, similar to the paladin. The spell list would have a smattering of spells designed to cause pain, control the battlefield, improve charisma checks, cause fear, glamours, etc.

One other core feature is the idea of the Justicar's Quarry. Gives them the ability to focus their efforts on a specific target, giving advantage both for survival and investigation checks relevant to dealing with that quarry. Different doctrines will enhance the way the Quarry mechanic works.

It's still very much a work in progress, but the page is on The Homebrewery:

I updated the link above. I have everything fleshed out as a first pass. I'm intrigued to know your thoughts, and if the interrogator/Doctrine of Pain subclass option would satisfy what you are looking for andrew?
