Kraxix Solo Fights

May 8, 2017 5:42 pm
Kraxix, you find yourself outside a small fort as darkness starts to fall, it's probably 7 in the evening, with the dying light fading to black in the sky. The fort in front of you is maybe 300' to a side, and surrounded by a 2 story wooden wall. There is a gate with one lazy looking guard out front.

In your hand is the letter:

You are to proceed to Fort Vikal. There is a healer there that we need removed from service. You'll find her in the upper floor of the tavern at night and in her healer's tent in the southeast corner of the fort. Let no one else notice your action until you are gone.
May 8, 2017 5:50 pm
OOC:
So, does this mean I cannot kill anybody until I leave?
May 8, 2017 5:52 pm
OOC:
No, you can kill everyone if you want. But your killings can't be discovered until you are gone. As an example, don't kill the guard and leave him dead in the middle of the fort.
May 8, 2017 6:19 pm
I sneak to the wall, far from the guard's view. I press myself up against the wall and make my way towards the gate.

Am I successful?
May 9, 2017 9:25 pm
OOC:
Sorry! Been a busy day.
You manage to make your way to the gate and the guard doesn't appear to turn his head at all. He's about 10' ahead of you. You can peer around through the wall. You don't see anyone milling about inside the fort.
May 10, 2017 12:48 am
I sneak around the corner, staying close to the wall.

May 10, 2017 1:32 am
You make your way into the fort, hearing nothing from the front guard. You see a faint flicker of light at the back wall, likely another gate. There are several buildings inside the fort and everything is cast in a dim light. You can see the tavern to the right, with lights on and the front door open. The sound of music and frivolity floats out the open door.
May 10, 2017 1:37 am
OOC:
What does the outside of the tavern look like? Any way to climb the outside?
May 10, 2017 1:44 am
The tavern is a common enough frontier-fort construction. With a bit of effort, you could likely climb the outside. Whether you can make your way in a window, that remains to be seen.

I sneak to the tavern and search for a good path to climb up.

You easily scale the tavern, pretty sure you were unseen by any inside. Once you make it up the building, through a cunning use of trellises and framing timbers, you find yourself on a narrow ledge, gripping a window frame. Peering inside, you can see that it's dark in the room. A simple bed in one corner with a table and chair in the other. In the grayscale picture ahead of you, it appears that there are no personal effects in this room.
May 10, 2017 1:19 pm
OOC:
Window open or closed?
May 10, 2017 1:22 pm
OOC:
Closed. Sorry, meant to include that bit.
May 10, 2017 1:34 pm
OOC:
Is there enough room on the ledge for me to open the window?
May 10, 2017 1:58 pm
OOC:
The window doesn't open in or out, it slides up and down. So, yes, you can attempt to open it.
May 10, 2017 2:14 pm
I open the window, just enough to slip inside.
May 10, 2017 2:33 pm
As you try to open the window, it doesn't budge! It appears to be locked.
May 10, 2017 2:37 pm
OOC:
Is there enough room for me to utilize my thieves tools?
May 10, 2017 2:44 pm
OOC:
There is.
May 10, 2017 2:52 pm
OOC:
Sleight of hand?
May 10, 2017 3:51 pm
Using my thieves tools, I skillfully attempt to pick the lock on the window.

It takes you a few minutes, but you manage to slip your picks in the right spots and get the latch to spring. Now the window opens up easily, and quietly.
May 10, 2017 4:35 pm
I slip inside and take a look around the room.

Rolls

You notice nothing you haven't already seen. It's a sparse room, with no indication of anyone staying in it at that moment. You do hear music and the general thrum of a busy tavern, though it is dulled by the wooden floor. The door on the opposite wall from the window it closed.
May 10, 2017 5:06 pm
I check the door to see if it is locked.
May 10, 2017 5:07 pm
The door is closed, but not locked. You see a dim glow under it, likely from whatever light is in the hallway.
May 10, 2017 5:09 pm
I go prone, looking underneath the door, looking for any feet.

May 10, 2017 5:15 pm
I slide the door open slightly and peer into the hallway.
May 12, 2017 8:16 pm
The door swings towards you and both light and sound spill in from the tavern below. You see a runner carpet down the middle of a hall probably 40 feet in length. There's a few wall sconces with lanterns providing vision. You see four doors to your left, and three to the right.
May 12, 2017 8:21 pm
I move to the closest door to me left and put my ear to it and listen carefully.

The door swings open, squeaking loudly as you push. As you glance about, it doesn't immediately seem like anyone heard you at all.

Inside the room, everything is once again cast in that grayish light you are so familiar seeing in the dark. Once again, you are faced with a totally empty room. This one has dust on some of the surfaces, so it's likely that it hasn't been inhabited in some time.

The door swings open, this one silently. Inside you see a lone figure sprawled on the bed and a large sack on the floor. There are a few cases about the size of a lunch-pail sitting on the small table.
May 18, 2017 2:46 pm
OOC:
If I wanted to sneak over and slit this persons throat, what roll(s) would I need?
May 18, 2017 3:05 pm
OOC:
Stealth roll, and then an attack roll at advantage with a melee weapon. If you hit, it's an auto-crit.
May 18, 2017 3:17 pm
I move slowly to the person and pull out my rapier. I line it up and...

Your rapier plunges into the soft flesh of her throat beneath her voicebox, punching up through her mouth and beyond. Her eyes open in shock, an attempted gasp soundless from your blade's positioning. Her hands fly to the encroaching blade as she stares into your eyes for only a moment before the light fades from them. Your blade slides out, her blood following, staining her sheets.

The sounds of the party below continue to echo through the building.

I read the journal.
May 26, 2017 10:38 pm
OOC:

OOC:

You see that a good portion of the words in the journal are in elvish, the rest in tongue you are unfamiliar with. What you can make out seem to be routine entries describing a procession of patients, their ailments and their treatments. In the margins, a harsh script has a few appearances, and there are full pages in an angular script, but you don't know the importance of the words.
OOC:
How long do you spend reading?
May 28, 2017 3:38 pm
OOC:
I just glance through it.
I search the body.
May 30, 2017 2:12 pm
Aside from the gaping neck wound, she's clad simply, in a formerly white linen gown. She was asleep, so not much to be found there.
May 30, 2017 2:23 pm
I attempt to pick the lock on the trunk.

The lock pops open loudly, but you don't see or hear anyone coming. The sounds of the party below are still there. When you open the small chest, you find a small bag of coins, some folded parchment that appear to be love letters in flowing elvish script, and a golden ring with a seal engraved in the surface. Looks like a drop of blood.
May 30, 2017 2:45 pm
I glance through the letters.
May 31, 2017 5:27 pm
Standard love letter material. The author clearly misses the woman, and longs for her return to the forests when she finishes her rounds on the front. One describing the woman you killed, but in such a way that you can tell the writer of the letter has very deep feelings for her. In the last letter, you see that the writer was looking forward to coming to visit her in the fort early in the next ten-day.
May 31, 2017 8:58 pm

It's a standard explorer's pack. Mess kit, bedroll, tinderbox, torches, rations, a waterskin, all stuffed into a backpack. Not new, or in exceptional shape. Just kind of there.

I exit the room, closing the door quietly behind me.

I glance quickly to see if there is anywhere to hide.
Jun 16, 2017 2:42 pm
There really isn't any place in the hallway. You could try for the murdered woman's room, but they'd likely see the door close.
