You are a Pirate

May 22, 2017 9:09 pm
The KGSS Chianti, a corvette in service to the Kingdom of Gwendyll Shipping Services, sat sails up, bobbing from the small ocean waves. The ship had years of service, she was made of the common Gwendyll Standard wood, had six cannons for defense, and currently a cargo hold full of confiscated illegal substances. Her deck was freshly swabbed, the mops still a thin red, and the bodies wrapped, weighed, and shoved overboard. It was the only solid ground within miles, according to your newly appointed navigator's best estimates, however, you were concerned whether he was holding the sextant the right way. Regardless, you certainly felt like a small brown dot in a huge encompassing blue void.
You and the other survivors were gathered round a coil of rope, emitting a soothing orange glow from one of your crew member's Light spell. The night sky was cloudy, and the moon and stars were peeking through every so often. There was the white noise of small talk between the crowd, until one person, Shira, her sword still drawn, called out to hush them.
Another voice agreed with her, "Alright, alright, she's right! I know no one wants ta talk about it right now, but what needs ta be done, needs ta be done... We need a new captain." called out Andy, the loudest of the mutiniers, and their undeclared ring leader. He said this with his arms outstretched, looking round the ring of people gathered, in what appeared to be a genuine attempt at open discussion.
This made the white noise return, as hushed discussions erupted back all around you. Andy seemed to smile at this as his arms fell to his sides, exasperated. He quickly crossed his arms over his large gut, and he cried out with his grin growing bigger as he went "Fine! I know it be a tough burden ta bare, but if my fellow crew mates need me ta lead them, ta protect them, ta dole out their fair wages... I will oblige!" This seemed to be answered by a general dissatisfaction from the crew, and yet, still no one would speak up.

What does Zunis know about this Andy character that makes his offer for captain dissatisfactory?
May 22, 2017 10:49 pm
You don't really know him, he was one of the more recent sailors to climb aboard. You know he is very loud and very opinionated, from what you have seen on the boat.
May 22, 2017 11:15 pm
Zunis yells from the back in his bizarre, Triton accent. We should probably have someone that has been here longer be captain.
May 23, 2017 1:13 am
It doesn't matter... Pasquale says quietly as he steps through the crowd. Then more loudly, It doesn't matter who is captain, the gods will bring balance to power in the ship. Just ask your old captain! Pasquale gestures to the sea. His downfall by your hands was only part of the order of the world. I take it he had too much power for you all, and you took it from him. No matter who leads you today, tomorrow may bring his body sinking to the bottom of the sea. Pasquale ends looking at Andy, hand loosely on the handle of his hammer.
May 23, 2017 1:47 am
We still need one, though, don't we? Zunis says, unsure. And I would prefer it not be that guy.

Andy's smile and smugness drop to a deep frown as several of the long standing crew, including Shira, raise similar sentiments to Zunis. Andy gives a distinct glare towards Zunis' direction, but remains silent.
A few of the crew roll their eyes and give knowing looks towards each other. These sailors have given Pasqual trouble before, never being quiet about how they feel towards his preachings, or any preachings for that matter, but upon mention of the previous captain, much of the crew quiets down, once again becoming quite reserved on the topic of new captain.
"Yes, we will need a leader if we want a real chance to make landfall in one piece" Shira states, a tone of complete certainty rolling through her words. She stares off to the expanding waters, slowly twirling her sword clockwise, then counter clockwise.

What does Zunis know about Shira? And anyone else notable on the ship while you're at it.

"Everybody's bein' so SERIOUS! If I'd a' known it'd be this BORING I never woulda agreed ta MUTINY!!!" The outburst comes from above, where Roscoe dangles lazily from the rigging. The gaily-dressed halfling casually backflips off the ropes to land perched on the gunwale. "It was me what slit th' Cap'n's throat - p'raps that makes ME Cap'n now, eh?" Roscoe watches the ragtag crew's reactions before quickly adding, "Nay, that'd mark me throat fer SLITTIN' next, aye? No, thanks. 'Sides, th' HAT don't fit me head." the halfling produces the late captain's feathered hat skewered on his rapier. "But whichever o' ye wants this best ask me NICELY like, savvy?"

Other than a raised eyebrow, Roscoe ignores the comment. What would the triton know what a "normal" man is or sounds like? Hilarious! He twirls the hat on the end of the rapier. "Hurry up an' pick so we c'n get ta th' FUN stuff!"

Theren sits on the rigging and watches as this all unfolds, it matters not to him who's captain, only matters whether he gets paid or not. "Can we just be quick about it? I'd rather not be stuck out here when a storm rolls in and if I'm being perfectly honest shouldn't the captain part go to whoever does the least, that way they aren't in the way, I think Andy realised that too when he volunteered." Theren let's out a grin, as the sarcasm floods the deck.

May 23, 2017 7:51 am
OOC:
Yeah same question. For some reason Shira appeals to me too. Or does SamuraiPie really want one of the PC's to be captain?
May 23, 2017 10:39 am
"When I was swabbing on the good ship The Last Molly, the captain was well respected by the crew, but more importantly by the people we were dealing with when we went to deliver our cargo and take a new job." Pasquale points at Roscoe, Andy and Shira in turn. "Where are we going, and what are we doing with the cargo we carry?"
May 23, 2017 2:36 pm
"Damned if I know, mate. I just want t' get paid."
May 24, 2017 12:20 am
The crowd eases up as Roche parades the hat around, even going so far as chuckling and smiling in a non sinister way. Zunis' sarcasm from the back bring more snickers as the crew almost seems back to normal sailors busting each other's chops. These is underlined by Theren's high cutting jab, and released the flood gates of chatter, whoops, and hollering. When Pasqual refocuses the crowd into reason and the decision they all eagerly quite down to hear what would come of them by the hands of their future captain.

Shira was first to speak. You know her as a strong lass, a long time crew member, and a sure fighter with a resting scowl that could intimidate the pants off a succubus, to quote a story from Salty Jim. "If I were captain, I would go to sell the cargo to the most powerful person I could think of, Turunga. Hopefully gain some favor with him, and maybe he will offer us some jobs for easy cash. We don't have the fire nor man power to take on all the islands alone!" Turunga is a common name, a bit like the Boogeyman. People say he is a ruthless mob boss, with ears in many places and knives in even more.
"Ha if you have a certain death wish then go ahead and just try to stut up to Turunga! As soon as you do, if he doesn't decide to kill ye all and take everything for himself, he will make sure all of us will remain in his debt indefinitely! I would much rather go to a fringe port, slowly unload our wares to the highest bidder, and stock up to go pirating!" Andy blurts out, not allowing the crowd to react to Shira 's initial proposal. The fringe ports are far flung towns mostly consumed by criminals and debauchery. They aren't generally the best places to open up a store, but there would certainly be folk interested in your cargo.

The crowd enters a full discussion, many people nearby turning toward each of you for advice, as you were the other most vocal members.

It is also certain that Turunga would hear of an independent ship stealing and selling, and look for us in time. Perhaps if we sailed off the edge of the sea, we could avoid his eyes." Pasquale whispers to Zunis, I think I'm with you on this.

Finally someone's makin' sense. We need to offload these goods quick and clean and set up the next job and following Shira sounds like our best bet for a quick turn around. Theren hops down from the rigging standing before the crew. So if we're starting the vote, Shira has mine.
May 24, 2017 6:40 pm
Zshe has my vote too! Zunis yells, standing up for the first time and raising his hammer into the air.
May 24, 2017 6:46 pm
"An' mine." Roscoe says, flipping the captain's hat Shira's way. His now bare rapier is left unsheathed, though held straight up, unthreateningly. "Any objections?" the halfling says with a grin, scanning the crowd, his gaze stopping to rest on Andy.
May 24, 2017 9:32 pm
Andy, surprisingly, dramatically, and graciously bows out, both physically and figuratively, of the running, "Three cheers for the new captain!" he chuckles ending in an open toothy smile as he grabs her arm and lifts it up in the air. The rest of the crowd cheers in response as Shira takes the hat and fixes it to her head. "Alright boys, to your cots, we drop sail at first light.", Shira commands putting away her sword. "You two with me, we are going to count the cargo and go through the manifest." she points to two crew members, they nod in agreement and fall out behind her. The rest of the crew starts their idle chatter as they make their way to the barracks.

Morning comes and everyone is hard at work setting sail to the port town of Peach Bay. What is everyone up to on this week long journey?

Zunis, now the chef (since the old one died), spends the week instructing other sailors assigned to the galley how to prepare fish, mix the grog, and other duties. He also, when the occasional serious wound happens, acts as the doctor using magical healing.
May 24, 2017 9:53 pm
Theren as usual spends most of his days up in the rigging performing maintenance and on look out duty for any royal navy or landmasses. His nights (when it's not raining) he meditates up at the crows nest.

A few days pass, and during supper, the crew starts talking. From the gist of things, people are becoming concerned about the fact that they are getting well beyond the scope of most KGSS vessels. Some are concerned that continuing to fly the Kingdom's colors at this distance will draw unwanted attention. Others believe that the ship should keep the disguise for as long as possible to bypass some potential threats.
May 25, 2017 11:52 pm
At an evening dinner, Pasquale sits next to the rough halfling. "Roscoe, I see you are trying to help our less than able navigator, maybe the old one should have been kept alive but whats done is done. Regardless, if we ever find ourselves lost and directionless, balance may point our way. I can provide some assistance."
As the discussion of the flag comes up, Pasquale stands and speaks.
"I know that I am not officially part of your crew so listen to me or not, but I do agree that the Kingdom colors will make us a target. We might appear as a lost vessel, with no aid in sight. As apt a description that may be, we should show some resolve in the flag we fly, and possibly some instill some confusion, if not fear, in those we encounter. I propose we do not pretend to be affiliated with any group as of yet, but make an independent statement. Let me show an example, to perhaps start you thinking."
Pasquale steps away from the table and finds a scrap of torn sailcloth in the corner and grabs a piece of charcoal from under the stove.

"Zunis, you know very well what I have been doing. It seems that since I gave the last rites to your captain and his loyal few, this crew has become quite reckless. Every day either you and I are dealing with multiple injuries, whether its a splinter the size of a finger thrust through someones foot or something like old Grist's accident two nights ago. It was clearly not his time to die, he should count himself blessed that Theren found him tangled in the rigging with no breath left." Pasquale clasps his left shoulder and rubs as if remembering an old injury "Theren's hand was truly guided by the gods that night." Refocusing on Zunis, Pasquale continues, "Besides, I know how to steer this beast and can tie a stoppers knot with one hand, I've been making myself useful whilst watching these souls on their mortal march."

"I would be insulted if I thought you knew what you say my friend. I have too much faith I fear, and duty to my faith is unwavering." Cupping his hands, Pasquale mimes as if he is holding the most delicate flower. "The cycle of life is precious, and my faith in it is absolute. My duty to see that the cycle it uninterrupted and uncorrupted is why I breath." He then brushes his hands, right then left, as he lets them part and drop to the table.

I like you Zunis! Pasquale gives him a hearty slap on the back. You will have to enlighten me on the other things that do not involve life and death. Since I ran away from my home, how to live and when to die have been all consuming. Pasquale is taken aback when the halfling leaps upon the table, but appreciates that someone likes his sketch. With a murmur and a slashing swing of his hand, Pasquale casts spiritual weapon above Roscoe's head. A spectral scimitar makes a swinging attack in the air above him.

The crew seems pleased with the display of courage that comes with the flag, the combination of Pasqual's spell and Roscoe's words seeming to sway most of them to fly as free individuals. Andy slams his fists on the table quieting most of the cheers, he is very sweaty and yells out "Fools! We are a small ship, not designed for battle, if we declare ourselves independent then we will surely be an easy target if we pass by any large ships out 'ere! I can't believe I'm agreeing with the watah suckah over there, but if we find a fight, we will sink!" His words go unnoticed however, and the crew gather some scrap cloth and fashion a crude pirate flag. Shira seems to like the motivation the crew holds, and happily let's the flag change happen. A few cheers and shanties are sang with the rest of the days work, and everyone goes to their cots with hope or fear for the morning.

The next day, a storm pushes the Chianti closer towards the coast of an island. Seemingly from thin air, a large ship appears behind, it flys a black flag with no other markings. The crew aboard the mystery ship seem racing back and forth, readying the cannons. It is clear it means to engage the Chianti. Shira is a bold captain and calls all hands on deck, man the cannons, and to prepare the grapples. She knows the Chianti is outgunned, and feels like the only chance of victory would be to board the enemy. A few volleys are traded, and the Chianti is within 50 ft of the enemy ship. Grapples are loosed and many make their mark. The two ships are currently intertwined.

Shira shouts out "Pull! Pull you scallywags!", her voice rings out across the deck of the ship as much of the crew scramble to a rope and heave together in an attempt to win this tug of war against the enemy frigate.

Theren manages to land amongst the masts, and slide down to the deck of the ship without much trouble, however as soon as he lands on deck, he immediately is attacked by the mob of dirty pirates surrounding him. He manages to duck a hammer swing, Dodge out of the way of a thrown javelin, but gets sliced by a charging cutlass, unfortunately for the charging pirate Theren stabs deep with his shortsword, letting the corpse to continue past and sprawl against the deck.
OOC:
Theren takes 8 slashing damage.
Zunis bellows out in an attempt to end the conflict peacefully, however, even with magic enhancing his voice the sound of grunting pirates, clashing swords, and other battlecrys his voice goes mostly unheard, blending in with the background chaos.

Roscoe manages to easily swing from the ship, becoming a miniature Tarzan as he hopes to another rope, slices it loose, and swings down through the enemy deck, lashing out at the chaotic movements. As he moves into the enemy crew, he is also attacked by the mob, but he jumps off an enemy, simultaneously slicing the poor girl's neck and launching Roscoe out of the way of a reaching mace. Roscoe heads towards another poor soul, pulling a similar maneuver, to launch off, correcting his swinging course while leaving death in his wake.

The enemy ship is a menagerie of races and peoples, some hanging from the rigging, some racing up from below deck, and others popping off spells. There seems to be an aura of still quite from one member on this enemy ship, as he bellows out a stringent command, "Cut those hooks!"
as he says this, he slices a taught rope with his large cutlass, resulting in a group of friendly pulling crew members next to Zunis flying backwards on top of each other. He continues to move forward seeming to disappear into the battle. Other enemy crew members hear his call and attempt to follow suit, racing to nearby hooks. Only one more rope snaps from the sharp bite of an enemy blade. Others grab some loose rigging themselves and swing over to the Chianti, brandishing their swords as they cross the open water.

Pasqual attempts to take aim at the shot caller, but he cannot find where he stands, there are too many faces moving across the deck. Pasqual takes his best guess and sends a bolt across, it lands in a running enemy's shoulder. It surprisingly doesn't slow them down, as they keep charging towards the flank of one of your infiltrating crew members, Reggie. Pasqual can tell that Reggie would be skewered by this charge, so your scythe swings low as you yell out "Reggie, get down!". The weapon hits both of Reggie's attackers, their bodies now lifeless on the deck. Reggie quickly rises, sends you a wide smiled thumbs up, and rushes off into the fray.

Aboard the Chianti, the remaining hook teams heave another ho. They barely manage to overcome the current of the ocean and the wind, to pull the two ships closer together. The ships are now less than 10ft apart, "Drop the planks! Charge!" Shira calls out as the plank in front of her drops and she is the first to cross to the enemy ship, many crew members following her lead crossing planks and leaving the Chianti.

Weapons clash as the swinging enemies have made their way over to the Chianti. They meet little luck, as your crew mates completely decimate the Invaders. Only one enemy makes it across the water. She dives into one of your hook teams, and bursts into a flaming form. Your poor crew mates either quickly burn to death or drop the rope and flee in fear of the heat. The flame humanoid grows, or maybe stands tall?, and cackles, proud of it's dismount.

Only two hook teams remain, and Shira calls out "We can't let them cut the hooks!", and your crew members follow her word loyally, trying to push to the hooks to defend them.

At the start of Theren's turn, the flame girl's turn, as well as your invading crew mates they all suffer attacks by the respective crews of the boats they are infiltrating.

Theren manages to deftly avoid the swings of several pointy or smashy weapons, aggravating his enemies.

Some poor brave soul, Bernard, levels his pike at this literal bonfire and yells a warcry as he charges into it. He seems to connect, the flames cackles cutting out into an immediate cry of pain. The wound seems to spit out additional flames, sending Bernard to the floor as he desperately tries to extinguish his clothes.
Shira parries a few stray swipes towards her, sending one of her attackers bleeding onto the planks, as she runs past to the nearest hook.
The crew following her however, get bogged down by the attacks, get seperated from Shira, surrounded and butchered by the enemy.

Theren drops his defensive stance and goes full offense, as a squad of three more enemies engage him. He stabs into one of the two enemies he is currently engaged with, kneeing the other in the face to knock him out. Theren centers himself, making slight adjustments to his footing, and sprints towards the three approaching. Theren stops suddenly, falls back, and extends his leg out, his foot meeting the middle Pirate's sternum with a deep thud. The force of the kick sends the pirate backwards, into the their two allies. The large mass o limbs and pain continues to fall backwards, right off the side of the ship and into the choppy waters.

Zunis struts slowly up to the flames and gives a test swing, the fire seeming to part where his hammer was heading. The fire's eyes level with his, as two arms start to coalesce from the center mass.

Roscoe lands running onto the deck from his swinging rope. He pulls his second weapon, as he jogs into the Captain's reach, having to duck and serpentine past some of the crew's swings in order or make it. Roscoe's quick succession of blows appears too much for the bearded man, as Roscoe digs in two clean quick stabs.

The enemy crew continues to try disengaging the hooks, only being able to reach one, the other being defended by Shira. Someone smacks the hook with a hammer, breaking it off of the wood railing it was stuck to, again the pulling team on the Chianti falling backwards. With only one hook remaining the front o the ships start to separate from each other, several of the planks, and your crew members, tumbling down into the ocean. Sammi and Cho cling to the sides of the enemy ship, narrowly avoiding the fall. Shira gets surrounded by the enemy crew, as she desperately tries to push them away from the last remaining hook. She takes a mace to the knee, her screams sounding out as she lashes out in retaliation, stabbing her attacker through the eye.
The enemy captain retaliates with his own flurry of attacks against Roscoe, hoping to deal back the damage he just got, but he does not have the speed to make any direct hits on the halfling.
The flame princess swings her fire arms toward Zunis, and encapsulate him in a burning hug.
OOC:
Zunis takes 10 fire damage. Make a grapple check to see if you can immediately get away, if successful you take half damage and aren't grappled.
Pasqual keeps his scythe reaping, taking out two more of the enemy crew, while he goes to help his fellow brother of the cloth. His hammer meets with one of the fire arms surrounding Zunis, hitting the creature, but just as before, the attack spits out some fire onto Pasqual.
OOC:
Pasqual takes 5 fire damage.
Your crew gets a few more members across the remaining planks, before they have to pull them back onto the Chianti. With all the other pulling teams now forming one pull team for this final hook, the ships remain within 10 ft of each other. Shira strikes out at a few of the enemies, but doesn't make any fatal blows. Your crew mates aboard the enemy ship make some headway and trying to get to Shira, dropping a few more enemies in their path. Cho and Sammi still struggle to get up the side of the ship. Back aboard the Chianti, some bolts fly into the fire, seeming to do some damage as they continue through and into the main mast.

Manuel, who is closest to the captain and Zunis' assistant in the kitchen, calls out desperately "Oye! Cap'n down!".

Theren moves through the battling crowd, like water running past rocks in a creek. His sword sparking as it deflects metal aiming to harm him, his dagger diving into swift stabs at undefended bodies. He makes his way to Shira's side.

Roscoe decides to end the captain where he stands, driving his rapier into his hip, dropping him to the floor. With the Captain down, Roscoe backs off and jogs to the Chianti, leaping over to his allies, where he can see a roaring flame crackling on the deck of the ship, the boards him and his mates had swabbed for so many nights being turned black into smoke and charcoal.

The enemy crew seem a bit more frazzled now and have lost a lot of their starting force. the group surrounding Shira largely disbanding and chaos of battle taking it's place. The flame person spreads out, becoming more of a flame snake as it slithers its way to the last hook crew, scaring your crew members as they run from the burning hot fire. Zunis remains encircled by the fire.
OOC:
Zunis takes 5 fire damage.
Pasqual's scythe continues to cut at the enemy crew, mostly focused on keeping the enemies away from Shira. He swings his hammer down, and the flame seems to part from it's path. But with a quick prayer, he is able to twist his arm and wrist in a way to catch the retreating flames, an snuff them out. As he hits some fire leaps out onto his arm.
OOC:
Pasqual takes 6 fire damage.
Your crew members also appear flustered as they are running in all directions, shouts of Get some buckets!! and Keep the flames away from the gunpowder! ring out across the deck, the boats are now slowly drifting apart, about twenty feet away from each other.

Theren reaches Shira, having to stab a screaming man, once with his shortsword then again with his knife to knock him down dead on the deck. Theren tries to speak to Shira, but he can see that she has been knocked unconscious. She is breathing, but her wounds are bleeding. Manuel comes to your side, "We have to get back to the Chianti, there aren't enough of us here to take on the rest of the crew!" he seems tired and stained with blood, the remaining few of your crew members still on the enemy ship are backing up into a tight circle around Shira.

Zunis still wreathed in the flames, blasts outward in thunderous energy. The blast dissipates the flames around him, leaving only a few embers flowing upward to the sky. The flames recede back into a small humanoid shape, lying weak on the deck. Zunis extends his arm towards the large hammer he has created out of pure energy, and swings it across at this fire. As it connects, the flames are extinguished, and the human female form is shot out towards the other side of the deck, she lets out a sharp scream as she hits the wood railing. She is conscious and slowly trying to get up to her hands and knees.
Jun 15, 2017 8:15 pm

Is Pasquale within 60 feet of Shira at this time for a Healing word?
Jun 16, 2017 3:53 am
OOC:
Shira most certainly is within 60ft, but you would need to somehow get sight on her. She is on the deck of the enemy ship which is drifting away currently.
Zunis' hammer slams down right next to the elf woman. The wood creaks and moans from the heavy hit, and she winces at the thought of the hammer actually hitting her flesh. "Parlay! I declare Parlay!
Where is your captain? I need to discuss the surrender of my ship!"
despite being surrounded and staring down the hammer of a person she just tried to murder with fire, she is very collected and business like. She continues in a more jovial mocking tone "Ya know, before my ship sails away with your fellow crew."
Jun 16, 2017 6:42 am
OOC:
Stupid me, I forgot that Shira had crossed over to the enemy ship! All this time I've been operating under the impression that she was on the Chianti defending the hook teams. The ONLY reason Roscoe crossed back to the Chianti was to go to Shira's aid. Can we retcon that so I ran to her side instead?
If not then it's cool. :-)

Yeah good judgement isn't Roscoe's strongest suit. Bu while he does care more for his own skin than others', he's not completely lacking in loyalty.
Having made his way to Shira's unconscious form, Roscoe tries to rally what's left of the Chianti boarding party to her defense. He realizes too late that the two ships have come untethered and are drifting apart. Trying to make the best of a bad situation, he tries to get the enemy crew to surrender. "Avast, scurvy dogs! I've scuttled yer lily-livered cap'n! Surrender an' strike yer colors! This be our ship now!"

Roscoe joins the tight circle of crew members. The fighting has stopped temporarily as the enemy crew does the same forming a thick wall of pointy steel, that has completely surrounded you all.
One of the enemy crew, covered in cuts and fresh wounds steps forward. She is a half orc, covered in tattoos of flowers, anchors, ships, scrolls... They all seem connected by a thin strand, the strand seems to tapper off at her left shoulder which is covered in a terrible burn scar that stretches down to her elbow and up to the top of her head. Before she speaks, she spits onto the deck, "If yall killed cap, that makes me in charge nah... Less yah tink yer beddah den me? What're ya boys tink??" she finishes off in a yell as she turns to the crowd and flings her arms in the air. They all call in cheer and hollars, "Contest! Show ya big guns!!! Blow 'em sky high B!! Yes, I love Five Step!" she seems satisfied with this response, a crude circle forms on deck and B walks to the middle and turns her back on you. She glances over her shoulder, her hand on her hip, waiting for a response. All fighting has stopped, but weapons are still drawn, and your crew seems still closely guarded.
Pasqual, satisfied that there is no living fire onboard the ship, jogs to a position where he can better see the enemy ship. The distance is growing, and the waves aren't making anything easier, but he can clearly see a concentrated mass on the deck, the fighting seems to have, stopped? It has been replaced by uproars of cheers, jeers, and 'get outta here!'s You can't seem to pick Shira out of the crowd, you can pinpoint Theren, Manuel, Reggie, and Tall Eric, the tallest dragon born you have ever met.

On the Chianti, the chaos seems to have slowed, since the fire has been put out. They drop the sacks of gunpowder and rush to Zunis' side. They Pat his shoulder and praise his name, along with cries of, "Kill her! Don't let her spark up again! Come on Zunis, just end this! She did call Parlay though..." Amongst these discussions, Wexly, one of the slower members of your crew, sprints towards the fire captain, and launches water from their bucket. With a splash and a "What the hell?" from the soaking elf woman on the floor, Wexly is panting with his hands on his knees, he turns to Zunis and the crowd and smiles with a thumbs up.

Jun 22, 2017 7:15 pm
There is a small wave of oooo's that flutter across the excited mob as Roscoe throws some banter. B merely chuckles and stands completely straight up, her back still to your crew. Manuel pipes up as you step forward, "Woah, woah what the hell is five step?" he calls out. An enemy pirate swings an arm around Manuel's shoulders and puts their dirty face right next to his, "Well see here, the rules be simple enough! The two will start back to back, they then will take five, not six, nor four, but exactly five steps, counted out by the excited on Lookers. Right after the final step, we yell 'Draw!' those two will then turn and throw all they got to the other. Whoever takes the biggest hit is the loser!!" at the end of this explanation another eruption of cheers roar up around you and your crew. Some people are starting to place bets on who they think will win.

Back on the Chianti, the enemy captain is compliant as Zunis ties her wrists, she responds "We had you outgunned and outnumbered, but y'all definitely had us out skilled. Your captain must either be really stupid or really confident in this crew." You all turn to see the ships still drawing distance between them. There are a couple of people attempting to drop sail and pursue, while others are desperately tossing hooks to try and regrapple the boat. One hook sails high and far, and lands up in the rigging of the enemy ship. Lo' and behold Wexly is on the other end of the rope, and is suddenly dragged across the deck of the Chianti as the momentum of the enemy proves too great. He hits the railing hard but manages to cling to it, he is now a meat karabiner holding the two ships together. Your crew yells out as everyone tries to save poor Wexly. Luckily, a few others have managed to hook the ship too, and they remembered to tie the rope off to the Chianti before throwing.

As Zunis reaches the edge of the deck, he yells out in an amplified voice. I have bezted your captain. Zshe wishes to zurrender.

Theren starts to make his way up the rigging, it's easy to slip away from the captivated crowd. He stands on top of the main boom, he can see the the shouting circle with Roscoe back to back with B in the middle.
Zunis' voice echoes out over the water to the enemy ship. Aboard this ship everyone seems confused, your crew members look at each other, and the enemy crew have quieted down considerably, to quick hushed tones of "I thought the captain was dead?" "He must be lying!", B seems eager to get the show on the road, "You! Start the count! A surrendered captain is as good as dead!" she points to a random member of her crew.
OOC:
Zunis make a persuasion or intimidate check, with advantage with the booming voice (if going intimidate)

Persuasion - (1d20+7)

(19) + 7 = 26

Persuasion Adv - (1d20+7)

Some of the pirates on the outskirts of the circle seem to slink away from the crowd, distancing themselves from the potential mutiny. Others are being riled up by the one holding all the bets.

Roscoe you notice no guns on B.

The crew starts off the count "ONE!" yells out a chorus of voices.

On the Chianti the fire captain seems furious when the shout of one is heard from across the waters, "That Bitch thinks she can take away my crew??", she is legitimately steaming as the sweat rolling down her forehead sizzles away. Zunis you can feel the heat radiating off of her.

The ships are 30ft away, no longer drifting apart
Roscoe quick pivots on his first step, whipping out his rapier and shortsword slicing deep across B's back leaving a bloody x. He backs up and away from her.
B, stumbles forward, but turns quickly with an outstretched hand towards Roscoe. Her eyes flare up with magic energy as from her finger tips a bolt of lightning thunders out towards Roscoe.
OOC:
Roscoe makes a DEX save. If successful you take 15 points of lightning damage, if you fail you take 29 points of lightning damage.

Pasquale strains to see what is happening on the enemy ship, as the grapples are reestablished, he waits for the vessels to draw close again. Where is Shira?

Forgot about the Bless. Thanks for the reminder! Should've added d4's to my cheap shots but I think they hit anyway! :-)

DEX save. Here goes!
Roscoe tumbles away from the lightning bolt but he still gets zapped pretty good. He lands on his feet, hair and clothing singed. Incongruously, he's still grinning.

The crowd goes absolutely wild at the powerful blast of electricity and the subsequent badly wounded halfling. They all crowd around B and start cheering her victory, but with a decisive move of her hand, she silences the entire crew. She makes several heavy steps, the weight of leadership turning her swagger into something terrifyingly decisive. Her frown does not bode well for Roscoe as she stands tall above him, she scans over to your crew...

Pasqual manages to finally spot Shira. As most of the people rush towards B, it reveals Shira on the deck being guarded by Manuel among other members of your crew. You can cast your healing energy onto her.

The boats are slowly being reeled together, and an arc of magical energy shoots out into the sky from the deck, followed by cheers. Zunis turns to speak with the fire captain. She responds with "Help me kill that traitor half-orc, and we can negotiate a deal." from the anger in her voice you can tell that the one thing she wants more than to cook you alive and serve you with a slice of lemon, is to get her ship and crew back.
Jun 27, 2017 1:48 pm
Roscoe never cared about the game of Five-Step. He hadn't cheated to win—he had cheated so he could put B down. As she walks over to him he stands as if defeated, but as soon as she's standing over him he springs up and lets her taste his blades again before scurrying through the big 'uns' legs to somewhere relatively safe.
OOC:
I'm assuming Bless is no longer active?

Pasquale positions himself to board the enemy ship as soon as it is close enough for boarding (with real boards), not willing to risk going for a swim in chainmail. Finally catching a glimpse of Shira, he calls out "Today is not your day to die!" and calls upon his god to spare her life.
