Take a moment to introduce yourself and your character in this thread. Also discuss your character's connections here (remember, I want each character to have a strong and a weak connection with other characters in the party). We'll start the game as soon as the characters are all created. We'll begin with a short introductory adventure to get you into the swing of the game and also get the characters glued together a bit, and then we'll move into Red Hand of Doom which is a 3.5 adventure/campaign that I'm updating to 5e for this game. I'd strongly advise against looking up the adventure, not knowing is half the fun :)
May 16, 2015 10:37 pm
Hi everyone! Call me Josh when OOC. This will be my first 5e game. I have a few character ideas. The one I'm thinking of using in this game is a Tiefling Paladin with the Acolyte background. He and his mother were taken in by a temple when he was young after his father was wrongfully murdered by an angry mob. The priests intended for the angry young Tiefling to join the priesthood, but an inclination toward violence led him instead to be an agent of vengeance.
Sound good?
May 17, 2015 1:15 am
Hi all, I'm Sam OOC. This is also my first 5E game and my first time as a player in 3 or 4 years, I'm toying with the idea of playing a warlock or sorcerer, since I usually play sneaky stabby types. The back story is eluding me at the moment
May 17, 2015 1:35 am
Welcome, Sam! Have you been unable to play in 3-4 years or have you been running the games? For my group, I'm usually running the games, but we haven't been able to get together in almost a year. As for backstory, I got inspiration for a few when I read through the backgrounds. Good luck!
May 17, 2015 1:40 am
I'm usually the DM, been swimming around warhammer 40k RPGs for the most part.
May 17, 2015 2:13 am
It's been a while since I've read any forgotten realms novels slash history. How long ago was the time of troubles? I was thinking about being a sorcerer with the wild magic sorcerous origin due to exposure to a wild magic zone or brush with a gods power, and since then he's been seeking a way to remove the powers entirely or at least find a way to control his magic so it becomes something more predictable. And since it was a gods power that brought him the power, he wound up at your temple Josh. (Also, nice meeting you)
May 17, 2015 2:49 am
just to let you guys now I run a very loose setting while it is technically Forgotten Realms don't feel obligated to stick to the actual history and locations I'm very flexible and I will change things as needed. Plus I don't know most of it anyway. If looking at the history helps then go for it but don't feel obligated to cohere with it.
May 17, 2015 10:11 am
I feel that is for the best Candi, stick to your own creativity :)

As for my character, I was thinking of making a martial class of some sort. Perhaps even a battle Cleric. I like playing clerics. :)
May 17, 2015 11:06 am
Well, Ceadron, the Time of Troubles was 1358 DR, 4e is set in 1479 DR, and the Sundering began in 1484. The "current" year isn't set in stone. Even though it's been 100+ years since the Time of Troubles, wild magic is still around and your character concept can certainly work. I like that connection you made with our characters. Was this a brief meeting? Have you been staying long?
May 17, 2015 4:16 pm
It's also worth me saying, play whatever character you want. I will adjust the adventure to be a (fair) challenge given the party composition.

For example, If the party doesn't have a cleric or bard, I will compensate by ensuring there are more healing potions scattered throughout the adventure (to make up for the lack of in-party healing). So don't let concerns about party diversity discourage you from making the character you want to make :)

Also, it's sufficient to have a vague background for your character and then fill in the details as we play (that's my favourite way to build a character -- just have a good sense of where they game from, but leave lots of wide open gaps to fill in as you go and develop the character).
May 17, 2015 6:37 pm
Will you compensate if we create a character that isn't min-maxed? I was toying around with the idea of an unarmed barbarian, but I would deal like 0 damage as opposed to one that would use a two handed weapon.
May 17, 2015 6:50 pm
I don't like to force people into boxes, but if you wanted an unarmed fighter/brawler why not Monk? The class naturally supports unarmed fighting. I don't have a PHB to hand (the PHB I use is borrowed and I don't have it right now), but you may also be able to multiclass to Barbarian after taking 1 level of monk to get all the nice unarmed benefits of monk before diving into the Barbarian stuff (and I'm happy to allow your unarmed attacks to count as whatever they need to in order to make Barbarian powers be useful -- whether or not you take monk).

I have no expectation of min-maxed characters. Also, I'll work with you to get your character crunch to match up with your concept (even if that means tweaking class abilities or customizing some parts of the system).
May 18, 2015 1:13 am
Good to know! I'm not married to any one idea at the moment, but I like that you're willing to help us fulfill the concept for a better experience. Good on you :)

Okay I will stop posting here until I actually HAVE a character, haha.
May 18, 2015 2:27 am
Hey guys, sorry for the late intro, and THANKS for accepting me! I've been on board with 5e since the books have been published and have been running a game for a group of my friends. I am quite excited for the opportunity to be a player.

I've really wanted to play an Eldritch Knight fighter, I know level 3 is a ways away so I'll be a regular fighter for all intents and purposes. Does this work for the team? I'm quite willing to change up my options.

If Caedron decides to go sorcerer, we could have a bond wherein my character is quite interested in the magic he's slinging, even though it won't technically be 'wizard' magic.

Let me know what you all think, I'm excited, this should be fun.
May 18, 2015 2:33 am
Hello everyone!

I will put forth some sort of wizard for this game. I'll focus on illusion and such to balance out what Caedron may create with a sorcerer.

I'm very much looking forward to playing as currently I am running a 5e Princes of the Apocalypse here, the Lost Mine of Phandelver on Myth Weavers as well as a Numenera and Call of Cthulhu game!

Looking forward to the game.
May 18, 2015 3:31 am
My previous bond suggestion might be more appropriate directed at a wizard aka Arjen. What do you think?
May 18, 2015 4:17 am
So after thinking about it, if no one has issue with it, I'm going to go with Rurik Iron fist, Mountain Dwarven Warlock. While mining with his clanmates, they stumbled on something they shouldn't have, and unleashed an ancient evil. Acting rashly, he agreed to a pact with the being, becoming its agent in the material realm in return for the lives of the dwarves. Now he roams the world away from his planning, vowing not to return until he's found a way to break the pact without having to pay the lives and surrender his soul for eternal torment. His searches, and the powers gained from his patron have lead him to the church and made frequent partners with a certain tiefling paladin bringing vengeance to those most deserving of it.
Whew, with that out of the way, howdy Arjen, Grendel, and Morrow!
May 18, 2015 4:22 am
Wow, I like it :) I think that's a great warlock concept.
May 18, 2015 4:27 am
Thanks! :D I'm really looking forward to playing with you folks
May 18, 2015 12:06 pm
We've got two characters in and see the others are coming along nicely.

On your character sheet be sure to include your Bond, Flaw, Personality Traits and Connections (to other party members) in the Notes section at the bottom.
May 18, 2015 3:51 pm
Absolutely Grendel. I'll ponder your character as I get mine together.
May 19, 2015 12:31 pm
I have completed my backstory, save for connections to PCs. Anyone have any ideas? I'll link you to my page!
May 19, 2015 12:35 pm
Doesn't look like I can see your character from that link. What's your class/background?
May 20, 2015 12:00 am
Oh, bummer D: Reina is a Half-Elf Barbarian, here is her story (written in her own prose).
Quote:
Rage, power, and oppression. That is the meaning of my clan. For many a year I lived under this banner, never stopping to question whose lives we have butchered, what ruin we have created. I saw only the comfort and honor my clan brought before me, a warrior in my prime.

Now, I see differently.

There was a family. I do not know their names, nor remember their words. Etched forever in my heart is the fear scarred across their faces, as my clan's leader-- my own father no less-- ruthlessly tore them from this world. When I approached him filled with sorrow from the killings, he laughed in my face. "The strong will take what they please," he spat, "and the weak will die. That is the way nature is, was, and always will be!" Against his advice, I took my thoughts to the clan, who argued with me for many days. Why couldn't we live in peace with others of our kind? Did he not see the difference between us and the animals that we idolized? Why should we be ashamed of living in what others call "cities," they are just stronger clans with better defenses! I had enough of his nonsense. My kinblood had become nothing but a brutal band of murderers before my eyes.

So, I ran. It felt foreign at first, away from the shelter, the warmth. There was a word that my clan had for this feeling, "Coldhearth." That is what I had become.

A number of months passed, and I had learned the ways of what the city-clan called "Adventuring." It was pleasant in it's own right; many other adventurers reminded me of clansmen from a life before. A few of them I am pleased to call friends. I will prove to my father and myself that the strong are capable of more, of better things than tyranny. The strong help the weak, and that is my strength.
Her technical background is "Folk-Hero," but it's a loose fit. More like a revolutionary, haha. If you're interested in bonds and etc, here:
Quote:
Personality Trait: I'm confident in my own abilities and do what I can to instill confidence in others.
Ideal: Freedom- Tyrants must not be allowed to oppress the people.
Bond: I protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Flaw: The tyrant who rules my land will stop at nothing to see me killed.
May 20, 2015 2:38 am
I've only ran games here on GP so I know in my screen I can access character sheets. How do we do that as a player?!
May 20, 2015 11:26 am
The other players have to set the character to public i believe. .. or add it to the library
May 20, 2015 1:19 pm
I went ahead and added my character(s) to the library, shouldn't be a problem anymore. :)
May 20, 2015 1:21 pm
Yup! That worked
May 20, 2015 2:06 pm
I wasn't aware of the whole public/library thing, so now Kaiakas is in the library if anyone's interested. Hope that worked.
May 20, 2015 2:20 pm
Awesome. I've added mine to the Library as well.
My character is a former soldier, having left after his tour was up being fed up with taking orders from incompetent and misguided officers.
Ideal:Independence:When People follow orders blindly, they embrace a kind of tyranny.

This leads me to believe that Corban might have something in common with Reina, as her ideal is similarly geared towards tyranny. I'd be leaning toward a minor bond with Reina if Morrowlife has any ideas.

For a major bond I think it would still make sense to be with Arjen's wizard as I'd like to go Eldrtich Knight down the road, though maybe a minor bond is enough, and can be built upon in game.

I'm also wide open for any other suggestions anyone has for bonds.

The rest of the mechanical particulars:
Background:Soldier
Specialty:Support staff
Personality Trait: Crude Sense of Humour
Ideal:Independence:When People follow orders blindly, they embrace a kind of tyranny.
Bond: Someone saved my life on the battlefield. To this day I will never leave a friend behind.
Flaw:I have little respect for anyone who is not a proven warrior
May 20, 2015 2:41 pm
Sorry for the silence, work has been, and continues to be, hectic. I should have my sheet done later tonight, but if anyone has any suggestions for a minor bond I'd be most appreciative.
May 20, 2015 2:46 pm
Grendel, that sounds great! I can easily see them working together to stop a group of bandits, how about something like this:
Quote:
In the recent past, Reina found herself upon a small village that was subjugated to paying for "protection" from a group of bandits named the Iron Beaks. At the same time, a man named Corban was fighting this force, and Reina felt obligated to lend a hand. Together, with only the two of them, they decimated the enemy forces, driving the Iron Beaks crew far beyond the reach of the village. Since then, Corban and Reina have been known to work together from time to time.
You can use this same thing to put in your profile, of course changing the focus from Reina onto Corban. What do you think?
May 20, 2015 2:50 pm
I've added mine to the library.

I wrote that Corban saved Zaris from a potentially fatal mugging in the streets and is convinced that he is the reason to still be alive to continue his studies of illusion magic.

For a minor bond, I'll say that Reina and Zaris are from the same Elven city, but don't know each other any more than in passing.

I'm still needing a weak connection. Any ideas? Any takers?
May 20, 2015 3:33 pm
Arjen, I didn't picture Reina from a city. She's from more of a clan, a bunch of nomads traveling place to place. You could maybe say they have worked for the same adventurer's guild, or maybe frequented a city?
May 20, 2015 3:48 pm
Okay. How about he ran into her at the university in the city at one point?
May 20, 2015 3:53 pm
Note that you can have more connections than I set as the minimum, but you need at least a strong and a weak.
May 20, 2015 4:38 pm
Candi, aye!

Arjen, that could work. It would definitely be minor, because she wouldn't have spent much time at all in a university. I could see her curiosity getting the better of her on an occasion though! Would you mind if the connection was a little more negative? Not a seething hatred of course, but maybe something like...
Quote:
Reina was curious about what a "city" was like. Her people had told her tales of bumbling fools, of people who had less sense than the hungry fox walking into a baited trap. From what she had experienced, however, the truth was far different. The city was a marvelous place, filled with wonder and excitement! All of it, except one place: the university. The people there did nothing, all day and every day, but... read. From time to time, she would even sit as people would talk about things that the people would read later. It was quite pointless, really. Reina once went so far as to have someone explain it to her; an elf named Zaris, whom Reina thought she might like considering his heritage, rambled on for days attempting to convince her of the benefits of such "study." Several weeks and several more arguments later, she angrily gave up trying to understand and has avoided university ever since.
Everyone else: I need a strong connection still, if anyone has any ideas let me know! Preferably if anyone has interacted with nature or explored in some way, you could be the reason that Reina became fascinated with civilization to begin with!
May 20, 2015 4:41 pm
Is there a particular large city near where the adventure might be taking place? I'm happy to exchange a few weak bonds with the Warlock/Paladin pair of Caedron and unique_exemplar. We could have crossed paths in some major centre or perhaps butted heads if your task at hand was very church-tyrannical ;) I can see Corban not exactly agreeing with the blind faith required of a Paladin's holy oath.
May 20, 2015 4:43 pm
Reina/Morrow, can flesh this out later but you had a run in with Rurik on his constant search for a way to discharge his patron when he was exploring ancient ruins or rare herbs/animals. During his search he shared stories of the world beyond the wilderness?
May 20, 2015 4:50 pm
Caedron, that sounds tricky, but if you have an idea go for it! I'd love to see what you can come up with :)
May 20, 2015 5:02 pm
Hey Grendelthebrave, I think this is great! I thought we would come to this when I read your character description. My character will be going down the Oath of Vengeance. The persecution he's experienced by just being a Tiefling, and his father's unjust murder, has led him to hunt evil no matter what. He's loyal to his temple, but he's fiercely suspicious of corruption in everyone. With Caedron's warlock, he keeps a close eye on the dwarf, wary that the foul power he wields and how easily he succumbs to it. I would think that Grendelthebrave's barbarian and my paladin would have some interesting discussions about blind faith and tyranny. I'm totally for it! Perhaps they've met when Kaiakas was hunting down orc raiders?
May 20, 2015 5:04 pm
Grendel: The game is loosely set in Forgotten Realms (so loosely in fact that you won't recognize any of the location names in the adventure from the realms, but I'm calling it in the realms anyway). So, any city name will do - Neverwinter perhaps?
May 20, 2015 5:07 pm
Excellent!

Reina's the barbarian, I'm just a fighter, but both of our ideals are against tyranny. I'm definitely down with them having met while Kaiakas was hunting down Orc raiders. Corban could have taken part, as raiders need to be stopped, regardless of who's giving the orders to do it.

EDIT:
I'm okay with Neverwinter if everyone else is, though I'll happily agree with any other city, Arjen did you have a city in mind where Corban and Zaris would have crossed paths?

May 20, 2015 5:29 pm
Here's a map of the Realms for you all to refer to. Note that I'm not actually going to locate the primary adventure site on this map, as that would require me to change names of locations and edit the adventure (and I'm already updating it to 5e so I want to minimize the amount of extra work -- that's what I mean by 'loosely' set in the Realms).
May 20, 2015 5:43 pm
Whoops! Got all confused. Sorry Grendelthebrave. Still, it all works. Your fighter, my paladin. All good there.
Also, Neverwinter works for me. My home temple could be in any city, really.
May 20, 2015 5:49 pm
Love it! Exactly how I picture Zaris!
May 22, 2015 5:29 pm
Hey Candi, do you have a date you're hoping to start the game?
May 22, 2015 5:30 pm
Whenever the characters are all done
May 22, 2015 5:44 pm
Ok, cool. Ceadron, I understand you were having time issues. If you need help, don't hesitate to ask :-)
May 22, 2015 6:23 pm
I've updated my character sheet with my character bonds to Zaris (major), Reina(minor), Kaiakas, and Rurik(minor).

I assumed that Kaiakas and Rurik were already travelling together when Corban came across Kaiakas battling the Orc raiders, is that okay or should I correct it to only bond to Kaiakas?
May 22, 2015 6:25 pm
I think that sounds accurate. The way I understood it, Kaiakas and Rurik are grouped up already.
May 22, 2015 7:23 pm
Things are calming down, I have my character sheet about 70% done I just need to write down equipment, do the background stuff (hermit/sage/what have you) and I should be good. Other than that I need to get Morrow's strong bond written up, which I'm taking care of now since work is slow at the moment.
May 22, 2015 7:59 pm
Morrow/Candi, let me know what you think of this:

Soon after turning her back on her clan and their evil ways, Reina came across the remains of a pitched battle by old ruins being reclaimed by the forest. Great scorch marks marred the land and made shattered stumps of the nearest trees, mingled among the blasted woodlands were the bodies of a small mercenary group. More unsettling still was the carcass of a creature clearly not of this world, a brimstone stench redolent in the air above its remains, covered in wounds from steel and spell alike.
Searching among the bodies, she discovered that the fell creature had not downed all of the group, for a cadaverous dwarf still clung tenaciously to life. Near death though he was, he remained conscious though not fully aware of his surroundings, muttering and arguing with himself as near as Reina was able to tell.
Believing this to be a test from the gods to see if she really had turned from the tyranny of her former clan mates, she helped the dwarf from the battle site and into shelter where he could recover. As the days passed she became intrigued by his tales of the cities and the opportunities that awaited within.
Following his recovery, the two trekked back to civilization, Rurik disappearing into the crowds with an uneasy heart for abandoning Reina without a guide, but not wanting his demonic patron to have access to a new thrall
May 22, 2015 11:47 pm
Caedron, I like that! I'm going to make a few edits to it for my character's sake, but I love the idea! The things I'm going to change:

- Omitting "evil" from her clan's ways. They aren't actually evil (technically they're lawful neutral), just misguided.

- Changing this line: "Believing this to be a test from the gods to see if she really had turned from the tyranny of her former clan mates" to "As if to prove a point that she had truly turned against the tyrannical rule of her former clan," Because Reina doesn't necessarily believe in any gods. At least, not yet.

- Lastly, I'm going to alter the final paragraph to Reina's perspective on for her back story. I will write this instead: "Following Rurik's recovery, the two trekked back to civilization. Being enthralled with the new sights, sounds, and smells, Reina completely lost track of Rurik despite searching for hours. He seemed to have vanished! Reina was deeply saddened by this, his absence; Rurik was her very first friend outside of her clan. To this day, upon entering a new town or city Reina inquires about her companion and friend, hoping one day to regroup with him and learn more of his mysterious ways."

Of course you're welcome to not change anything on your end, that's just how I see Reina in my mind's eye. :)
May 23, 2015 9:30 pm
The first two points we can change no problem, the third can just be how Rurik and Reina see the same situation through different eyes.
May 23, 2015 10:01 pm
Exactly what I was thinking. A great job, sir!
May 24, 2015 1:36 am
Yes, let's say it was in Neverwinter were they crossed paths.
May 24, 2015 12:51 pm
Everything looks good folks!
May 24, 2015 3:00 pm
Excellent, I can't wait.
May 25, 2015 2:13 am
While still waiting on one character, I've started up the game thread. Have at it folks, and hopefully the last character sheet will trickle in before dice need to be thrown :)
May 25, 2015 4:48 pm
Finally added a character! (Sorry for the delay) how do I do the fancy talking in and out of character stuff?
May 25, 2015 4:55 pm
When the character is added to the game you should see a little drop down above the formatting options where it says: Post As:, there you can select your character.
May 25, 2015 5:02 pm
I've accepted the character so you should be able to post as the character now
May 26, 2015 3:38 am
What spell? Minor illusion or silent image?
May 26, 2015 12:33 pm
Minor illusion.

Also, is Rurik's sheet anywhere to access?
May 26, 2015 2:00 pm
How do I make it accessible?
May 26, 2015 2:05 pm
You can add it to the public library. Characters --> The little 'book' icon next to Rurik
May 26, 2015 2:42 pm
So if it's red, it's shared?
May 26, 2015 3:14 pm
It looks that way (from my characters). Though I still can't see Rurik in there.
May 26, 2015 4:12 pm
Hrmm let me try again
Okay Rurik is definitely red this time
As of 1309EST every time I click the book to make it read, when I leave or otherwise refresh the page it doesn't stay red.

Still not seeing it in the library as of 11.59 central time.
May 26, 2015 5:14 pm
I'll bother Keleth.
May 26, 2015 5:20 pm
I'm sure it's something simple.
May 26, 2015 5:22 pm
Keleth has been bothered :)
May 26, 2015 8:03 pm
Thanks, I was going to try posting for my tablet tonight. (Most of the time I'm using a smart phone at work)......(during breaks and what not of course, not in place of actual work >.> .>)
May 27, 2015 4:10 am
Not sure what the exact bug is, as manually running the same code that runs when you click the link worked, but I'll keep an eye on it. I've added you, as I'm guessing that's what you wanted. If it happens again, send an email to contact@gamersplane.com with what OS and browser you're using.
May 27, 2015 1:25 pm
Ceadron, this is important "work" we are doing here!! ;-)
Jul 5, 2015 5:03 pm
Hi all, just joined and am looking forward to jumping in whenever you are ready! In the meantime I'll work on creating a character...
Jul 6, 2015 1:59 am
Hello! Thank you for joining our party.
Jul 6, 2015 12:47 pm
Moofsalot, on this page you will find links to the Players Basic Rules -- that has everything you really need to know. Since you last played 3.5 you'l be happy to know 5th edition is in the vein of 3.5 meets AD&D, and doesn't take very much (if anything) from 4th edition. So it should be a relatively easy system to pick up based on what you've got in your background. We'll help you along as needed :) For now, pick a race, pick a class and get a character together. You'll be level 2 (shhhh don't tell everyone they're levelling up after this fight ;))

https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules

PS: Everyone you're levelling up to level 2 once this fight is over. So think about that :)
Jul 6, 2015 4:15 pm
Looks like you're bringing a rogue! Great.

So, I need one more thing from you for character creation - we need to get you tied in. Here's the primary hook that the party is about to receive -- a lead on some sweet treasure in an abandoned castle. Why do they contact you and get you involved and who in the group suggests you (i.e. that already knows you) or how do they find out about you? (a rogue makes this hook conveniently easy to work with!).
Jul 6, 2015 8:19 pm
Hiya Moofsalot!
Jul 7, 2015 8:01 pm
Certainly they know me by my reputation, but which? My stunning good looks, my wit, my deadly precision with a rapier? All of these are dwarfed (no pun intended, Rurik) by my ability to acquire that which is hidden or locked away. The more forbidden, the more dangerous, the better. Perhaps this is what ultimately led to one member of this group to call for me?

(ie I have no idea but am open to suggestions!)
Jul 8, 2015 1:45 am
Rurik has long sought dark and forbidden lore to try and lift his curse, mayhap he teamed with a rogue at one point?
Jul 8, 2015 3:40 pm
Moofsalot, seed some juicy rumours here -- what are two stories that are often told about your character in pubs that this band of travelers might have overheard which might lead them to think you would be a valuable asset (feel free to embellish, these are pub stories after all!)... and Rurik, pick one of those and retell the story from Rurik's perspective (the actual truth, you know, because he was there).

Here's how I'm seeing the character intro coming together:

The party is travelling to Elsir Vale and stops at a few inns along the way. They are one party member down (as Reina has left them) and are interested in picking up another companion, and keep hearing rumours about this rogue. They hear one story and Rurik mentions that he thinks he knows her, and that the story is far to embellished. He relays the true tale to the party, and they agree that should they encounter her they'll try and recruit her (then, I'll have the party intersect with her on the road at the very beginning of the first Chapter - so they've decide they will recruit her, then fate brings them together because, as it happens, they're seeking the same loot).

There was the time I stole a dragon's tooth right out of a live dragon's mouth (without it noticing!) or the time I escaped from a camp of barbarians that had captured me and left me chained and dangling over a pit of lava, or the time I convinced Prince Grayson the Third that I was his second cousin twice removed on his great grandfather's side (and was so successful that I got as far as a royal betrothal before that ruse was discovered)... so many stories, who has time to tell them all? Then again, if the ale is free flowing I'm sure I can come up with something...

Nice! Maybe Reina told us about the barbarian story before she split. Wouldn't necessarily have to have been her tribe. We could have been talking about how useful thiefly types are when exploring the world and she could have said "Well, there was this one rogue I heard of once, Xara..."

Just joined, thanks for inviting me! I'm bringing in a female Forest Gnome ranger named Pawetha, and I need some help figuring out the Major and Minor bonds.

Pawetha originated from a typical Forest Gnome community, and she contributed work as a woodland scout. She was small, even by Gnomish standards, and as a runt she would often be the target of pranks, ribbing, and questions about her abilities. The years of this incessant teasing whittled away at her naturally mirthful nature until there was nothing left but a short-fused temper (nearly rivaling that of a dwarf) and an almost inherent need to prove herself.

Pawetha finally left that community, vowing to never return until she had accomplished something worthy and glorious, far larger than her physical size would indicate.

So, while this would explain why she's no longer confined to the forest, I'm left wondering how she would know some of the characters. Perhaps she met up with Zaris while on the road and partnered with the Elf to gather reagents for his spells? Pawetha's Outlander background offers a third language in Dwarvish, perhaps linking her to Rurik's old clan somehow?

Edit: By the way, where do you all find avatars for your characters?

Google and/or deviantart.com.

Welcome! Since Xara is famous in her own mind, perhaps you sought her out?
