Bill walks as he talks it over with Clive,
"I don't know what we might gain from looking into the mill. It seems like the primary employer here. Likely most things in town happen under the watchful eye of the folks who own and run the thing. At least we can check it off our list. The entire town can't escape the stink of the place."

You are sure right about that, Bill. Clive says wrinkling his nose at the smell. Someone must know something...or have seen something.

Mathis and Eugene disguise themselves as best they can. Eugene's idea of drinking has great effect. The two head to the house with Lou in tow at a safe distance. He opts to stake out the house at a distance and watch for signs of trouble.

Arriving at the house in the late afternoon, the house is the same as before, Dubois is talking with a circle of homeless men, reading from a bible. You are invited in and asked to take a seat to listen to The Word.
Dec 26, 2017 10:24 pm
Eugene sits quietly, trying not to look at Mathis too often. Still tipsy from alcohol and not being a native speaker, he struggles to keep up with the sermon.
Dec 27, 2017 1:57 pm
Mathis will also sit and listen, while casually checking his surrounding to see if he notices anything new.

The two newcomers to the sermon are mostly ignored for the next hour as the priest drones on with his sermon. Most of the men look bored and disinterested but you suspecting attending this is compulsory if you want a bed for the night.
Mathis glances around but nothing seems to have changed since earlier in the day.
Father Dubois himself has a wild eyed look about him, seemingly crazed with religious fervour and spittle often flies from his mouth as he gets excited by his sermon.

After an hour, the congregation are dismissed, some mill about, others wander off to other rooms. Dubois indicates the two of you join him at a desk.

"Welcome brothers, I take you seek refuge from the harsh streets. First I must ask some questions, formalties. Have a seat."

Sitting the opposite side of the desk, he eyes you both closely and for a moment you think the game is up. He picks up a pen, and typewritten form.

"Names?"
Dec 27, 2017 7:44 pm
Eugene says with russian accent: "Evgeniy."
Dec 27, 2017 10:55 pm
Dubois stares at Eugene as if seeing his face for the first time, "Forgive me," he says after almost a minute, "You have suffered great trauma. Where did you serve?"
Jan 2, 2018 11:24 am
Eugene did not participate in any military action, his father got him a plum position of an adjutant in St. Petersburg. Eugene, however, allows himself to be led by pastor's questions. "Prussia", he says once again with russian accent. That was where his father fought.

The two men are questioned further, what they did for a living, how they came to be on the streets and he takes notes of their respective stories. The priest seems both convinced and amenable to their plight telling them they can each have a bed upstairs and directs them through the east door which leads up into a pair of dorm rooms with open doors and a number of beds. There's a single bathroom and a closed door on the north wall, presumably Dubois' private rooms.

Mathis stays reserved, almost aloof. He takes in everything he can, making notes of the layout of the church.

Eugene picks a free bed closest to the door in a dorm that has windows, if possible. He then goes to the bathroom and tries to listen for anything happening on the other side of the wall, in a room with a locked door.
OOC:
Are there any other people in the dorms? Also, is Dubois in his room?

At this point, Dubois is still downstairs. There's no-one in the dorms at present, it seems everyone just uses the rooms to sleep at night and spend there days downstairs or outside. From the bathroom, Eugene can't hear anything beyond the wall.

After a few minutes Eugene returns to the dormitory and looks outside the window, trying to gauge the height of the building. He also hopes to see Lou outside.

The building is a standard two floor townhouse. Looking down, Eugene spots Lou, inconspicuously reading a newspaper on a bench.

Lou is relieved to spot Eugene but does his best not to let on that he has seen anyone he knows.
