Chronicles of the Gatekeeper

It is a dangerous time for those strong in the Force. The Jedi Knights are no more, and the evil Galactic Empire seeks to scour their memory from the galaxy. Without the Jedi Order, those attuned to the Force often wander adrift, vulnerable to the agents of the Empire and the lure of the dark side.

Yet, the teachings of the Jedi live on, scattered across the stars. One such repository of wisdom is the holocron of the Jedi Knight Suljo Warde. This record, and its gatekeeper, await discovery by the Force users destined to exhume Warde’s legacy.

Meanwhile in the Zaddja system at the very edge of the Unkown Regions, Imperial Supply Outpost SN-271, colloquially known as The Eyrie, gets ready to host a new visitor…

The starlines collapse back into stars and an A-36 Pathfinder, Serendipity, emerges into real-space. At the controls, a relieved human gets his first view for several years of civilisation. Although the sight may not quite be up to his expectations.

Zaddja III dominates the scene, a gas giant with swirling violet and pink clouds which takes up more than half of the view. In the foreground, and dwarfed by the planet, a small station can be seen, the red blinking navigation lights probably the most welcome sight that Mayron Suntrigger has seen in a long time.

The scout ship approaches the small station, with toroidal living quarters surrounding a gas-refinery core, and is assigned Dock Cresh, beside a small transport vessel and a battered old YT-1200 freighter. The docking procedure goes smoothly and soon Mayron emerges into the habitation ring, a surprisingly homely space with a transparisteel upper-half giving the inhabitants of the station a magnificent view of the nearby planet.

As Mayron makes his way towards the communications booth, which is about a quarter of a turn around the station, he notices a well-dressed pantoran trying to look as inconspicuous as possible in amongst the local rabble. The station is very small, so he seems to be struggling to get lost in a crowd made up of many different species. He is not the only one who seems out-of-place; a cultured twi-lek seems to be gravitating towards the pantoran.

Suddenly raised voices make Mayron turn back, it seems there is an altercation between a large human and some of the station personnel. The man is filthy and dressed in ragged brown clothes and the guards seem to be trying to move him back into the transport he arrived on. Mayron turns back towards the Comms Room, and bumps right into a tall humanoid, knocking his hood off to reveal a rather fearsome-looking Nikto…

Ta'hida starts at the sudden noise and looks in the direction from which it came. He had been noticing a Twi'lek moving with some sort of purpose towards him and had focused too much on that. I can't let myself become blind to my surroundings. Even as dull as these surroundings are. Anything could be a distraction to divert my attention. So far his travel had been mostly uneventful, but better safe than sorry.

Ta'hida keeps his eye on the altercation and tells himself, I should stay out of it, its not my business. I need to stay under the radar. Which is why he is surprised when he finds himself impulsively moving towards the altercation. He quickly starts thinking of ways this might be a good thing, Okay, the station personnel is having trouble, if I help defuse the situation maybe they'll be more kindly disposed to me later.

The Nikto gives a slight growl of displeasure and quickly replaces his hood. Then he addresses Mayron in a low, but not threatening tone of voice: "Careful there, Captain. There are sentients aboard this station that would not take so kindly to a collision like that. As it happens, however, I'm in need of transport out of here, and I see you just docked. I don't have any credits, but I can do some basic maintenance, and am good in a fight, should it come to that. "

Zaddja III, a beautiful gigantic purple orb, lit the endless dark it was floating in. Juse Meqwin, a short Twi'lek man, marvelled at the look of it. He had been here a couple of days, at least as far as one can count days at a place where time was relative. All people he met here seemed to have a reason to come at this place and Juse was not an exception, but it was different than most. Every person knew exactly what he or she was doing here and what they would be doing after they left the station, that is if they ever did. Juse however, didn't know all these things. The only thing he knew was what brought him here. The Force. If only Master Keel was here.

Then a bump. Juse looked around and saw someone knocking over a tall figure who appeared to be a Nik'to. A thin and bony alien who rather than becoming angry or aggressive, instead reacted in a merely annoyed, but calm manner. A couple of meters away he noticed a young male Pantoran. His blue skin, with golden like face paintings - or whatever they were supposed to be - stuck out like a sore thumb. Juse might have imagined it, but he could have sworn that the young man was looking to him until a ruckus erupted from Juse's right flank. A tall figure seemed to be in trouble with the station personnel. Deciding that this may lead to further instructions from the Force, and being a tad bit bored anyway, he decided to get a little bit closer to them in order to hear what they were saying.
OOC:
I'd like to try to hear what the ruckus is all about.

Rolls

2 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 1 Success

OOC:
Certainly. One Perception check please. Average (2 Purple) for the distance. 1 Setback because of the noise of other people around you, 1 Boost because the man is very loud.

Mayron untangles his arm from his half cloak and looks up into the Nikto's face, his eyes quickly flicking across the humanoid's features and attire, looking for threats.

"Ah...what makes...eh...you think I don't have a....whats the word...crew?"

Just a little time away from people and I can barely talk anymore. Wait...I should really check how long it's actually been...

Ta'hida can hear his grandfather's voice in his head. you need to learn to control your impulses, boy! As Ta'hida approaches the security forces he tries to match their insignia with what he can remember of his studies into the sectors of the Rim. As an Imperial supply station they ought to follow standard regulations, of which he is all too familiar, but sometimes this far out on the Rim regulations are more like suggestions. If I can identify the officer I ought to be able to convince him to let me intervene. It'll be nothing to settle everyone down and then I can get on with getting out of here.

OOC:
That would be an Easy (1 Purple) Core Worlds or Outer Rim check (your choice) because the Empire is everywhere. :-)

G'Rehth's eyes, oddly unblinking, stare back at Mayron for a few moments. His gaze shifts toward the ruckus, but still he addresses Mayron:
"Hmmm. I see. Perhaps I should keep looking, if you need no extra assistance. " . His eyes then come back to Mayron, "but you are the one who said you don't have a...'crew', not I.". G'Rehth calmly moves to the side, still facing Mayron, but watching the ruckus with intent.
OOC:
can I do a general perception to see what I can see?
Jul 17, 2017 9:42 pm
Mayron opens his mouth to speak, closes it, squints for a moment, then opens it again before finally saying,"Maybe."

'Maybe' what, dung-for-brains? You barely brought that ship in alone. You're going to need help. You were thinking it anyway...

"Might need a hand," Mayron says. "Tell you what - show me how you...do a...thing...with those arguing folks...and you might get...job."

Flamiel: sure, Easy (1 Purple) Perception with a Setback because G'Rehth hasn't been blinking for a while (just kidding).

OOC:
LOL, are you going to give us Setback, too, from being constipated, since none of us have gone to the bathroom in a while? ;-)

On a serious note, though, do you want me to edit the previous post to add that roll, or create a new post for it?
Jul 18, 2017 6:23 am
OOC:
Just add a new post with the roll, that way we can see there has been a new post. In some cases you can then edit the post with the roll to describe the results of the roll, but that won't work for Perception rolls.

G'Rehth feels a twinge of doubt and uncertainty, but mulls his options.

I thought the Force was guiding me toward this stammering human, but now I'm not so sure. But what are my options? I've been stranded here too long, and he has a ship that ISN'T a tramp freighter. It is small enough in size that I might be better able to influence its course. And I don't feel any threat from this human. Hmmm...

Still looking at the ruckus, G'Rehth nods slightly toward Mayron and says: "Hmm...maybe."

Perception of ruckus. Boost is if listening is involved; ignore it otherwise.

1 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 1 Threat

Ta'hida remembers seeing these insignia in countless other Imperial Bureaucracy installations across the Galaxy. The rank insignia, in clear imitation of those of the Imperial Navy, indicate these two gentlemen are low-level security guards for the station. It appears the one with the long brown hair is the senior of the two.

As G'Rehth tries to get a good view of the fracas, a small gaggle of trandoshans walk in front, blocking his view completely.
Jul 18, 2017 4:45 pm
Ta'hida smiles as he nears the group. What seems to be the trouble here? Ta'hida quickly sizes up the man they were being troubled by, turns to the senior guard and in his most charming and respectful manner, Can I assist you in any way, sir?
OOC:
I want to try my charm on the guard.

Mayron raises his eyebrows as the Nikto moves his head back and forth, trying to see what's going on.

"Not...seeing good? I need crew who can...see good," he says, frowning as he stumbles over his words. "Looks like someone else beat you to it."

Mayron spots a well dressed, blue skinned humanoid push forward and begin to talk.

"Maybe I hire him?"
Jul 18, 2017 8:33 pm
G'Rehth gives a slight, low growl, and slowly eases his way through the crowd, trying to get closer to understand what is happening.
OOC:

He is attempting to blend in with other spectators, and not yet attract the attention of the security guards. If he can, he will keep it so the guards' backs are to him.
Jul 18, 2017 9:46 pm
Mayron shifts the blaster under his left arm, making sure it's still hidden from view, and then follows at a distance.
