Chronicles of the Gatekeeper

It is a dangerous time for those strong in the Force. The Jedi Knights are no more, and the evil Galactic Empire seeks to scour their memory from the galaxy. Without the Jedi Order, those attuned to the Force often wander adrift, vulnerable to the agents of the Empire and the lure of the dark side.

Yet, the teachings of the Jedi live on, scattered across the stars. One such repository of wisdom is the holocron of the Jedi Knight Suljo Warde. This record, and its gatekeeper, await discovery by the Force users destined to exhume Warde’s legacy.

Meanwhile in the Zaddja system at the very edge of the Unkown Regions, Imperial Supply Outpost SN-271, colloquially known as The Eyrie, gets ready to host a new visitor…

The starlines collapse back into stars and an A-36 Pathfinder, Serendipity, emerges into real-space. At the controls, a relieved human gets his first view for several years of civilisation. Although the sight may not quite be up to his expectations.

Zaddja III dominates the scene, a gas giant with swirling violet and pink clouds which takes up more than half of the view. In the foreground, and dwarfed by the planet, a small station can be seen, the red blinking navigation lights probably the most welcome sight that Mayron Suntrigger has seen in a long time.

https://inovaestudios.blob.core.windows.net/forumsavatars/original/2X/6/6a9d2b4cd09739f4074ee0bfbba486405a8d6032.jpg

The scout ship approaches the small station, with toroidal living quarters surrounding a gas-refinery core, and is assigned Dock Cresh, beside a small transport vessel and a battered old YT-1200 freighter. The docking procedure goes smoothly and soon Mayron emerges into the habitation ring, a surprisingly homely space with a transparisteel upper-half giving the inhabitants of the station a magnificent view of the nearby planet.

As Mayron makes his way towards the communications booth, which is about a quarter of a turn around the station, he notices a well-dressed pantoran trying to look as inconspicuous as possible in amongst the local rabble. The station is very small, so he seems to be struggling to get lost in a crowd made up of many different species. He is not the only one who seems out-of-place; a cultured twi-lek seems to be gravitating towards the pantoran.

Suddenly raised voices make Mayron turn back, it seems there is an altercation between a large human and some of the station personnel. The man is filthy and dressed in ragged brown clothes and the guards seem to be trying to move him back into the transport he arrived on. Mayron turns back towards the Comms Room, and bumps right into a tall humanoid, knocking his hood off to reveal a rather fearsome-looking Nikto…
Jul 17, 2017 6:01 pm
Ta'hida starts at the sudden noise and looks in the direction from which it came. He had been noticing a Twi'lek moving with some sort of purpose towards him and had focused too much on that. I can't let myself become blind to my surroundings. Even as dull as these surroundings are. Anything could be a distraction to divert my attention. So far his travel had been mostly uneventful, but better safe than sorry.

Ta'hida keeps his eye on the altercation and tells himself, I should stay out of it, its not my business. I need to stay under the radar. Which is why he is surprised when he finds himself impulsively moving towards the altercation. He quickly starts thinking of ways this might be a good thing, Okay, the station personnel is having trouble, if I help defuse the situation maybe they'll be more kindly disposed to me later.
Jul 17, 2017 6:11 pm
The Nikto gives a slight growl of displeasure and quickly replaces his hood. Then he addresses Mayron in a low, but not threatening tone of voice: "Careful there, Captain. There are sentients aboard this station that would not take so kindly to a collision like that. As it happens, however, I'm in need of transport out of here, and I see you just docked. I don't have any credits, but I can do some basic maintenance, and am good in a fight, should it come to that. "
Jul 17, 2017 7:23 pm
Zaddja III, a beautiful gigantic purple orb, lit the endless dark it was floating in. Juse Meqwin, a short Twi'lek man, marvelled at the look of it. He had been here a couple of days, at least as far as one can count days at a place where time was relative. All people he met here seemed to have a reason to come at this place and Juse was not an exception, but it was different than most. Every person knew exactly what he or she was doing here and what they would be doing after they left the station, that is if they ever did. Juse however, didn't know all these things. The only thing he knew was what brought him here. The Force. If only Master Keel was here.

Then a bump. Juse looked around and saw someone knocking over a tall figure who appeared to be a Nik'to. A thin and bony alien who rather than becoming angry or aggressive, instead reacted in a merely annoyed, but calm manner. A couple of meters away he noticed a young male Pantoran. His blue skin, with golden like face paintings - or whatever they were supposed to be - stuck out like a sore thumb. Juse might have imagined it, but he could have sworn that the young man was looking to him until a ruckus erupted from Juse's right flank. A tall figure seemed to be in trouble with the station personnel. Deciding that this may lead to further instructions from the Force, and being a tad bit bored anyway, he decided to get a little bit closer to them in order to hear what they were saying.
OOC:
I'd like to try to hear what the ruckus is all about.

OOC:
Certainly. One Perception check please. Average (2 Purple) for the distance. 1 Setback because of the noise of other people around you, 1 Boost because the man is very loud.
Jul 17, 2017 8:07 pm
Mayron untangles his arm from his half cloak and looks up into the Nikto's face, his eyes quickly flicking across the humanoid's features and attire, looking for threats.

"Ah...what makes...eh...you think I don't have a....whats the word...crew?"

Just a little time away from people and I can barely talk anymore. Wait...I should really check how long it's actually been...
Jul 17, 2017 8:31 pm
Ta'hida can hear his grandfather's voice in his head. you need to learn to control your impulses, boy! As Ta'hida approaches the security forces he tries to match their insignia with what he can remember of his studies into the sectors of the Rim. As an Imperial supply station they ought to follow standard regulations, of which he is all too familiar, but sometimes this far out on the Rim regulations are more like suggestions. If I can identify the officer I ought to be able to convince him to let me intervene. It'll be nothing to settle everyone down and then I can get on with getting out of here.
Jul 17, 2017 9:23 pm
OOC:
That would be an Easy (1 Purple) Core Worlds or Outer Rim check (your choice) because the Empire is everywhere. :-)

G'Rehth's eyes, oddly unblinking, stare back at Mayron for a few moments. His gaze shifts toward the ruckus, but still he addresses Mayron:
"Hmmm. I see. Perhaps I should keep looking, if you need no extra assistance. " . His eyes then come back to Mayron, "but you are the one who said you don't have a...'crew', not I.". G'Rehth calmly moves to the side, still facing Mayron, but watching the ruckus with intent.
OOC:

LOL, are you going to give us Setback, too, from being constipated, since none of us have gone to the bathroom in a while? ;-)

On a serious note, though, do you want me to edit the previous post to add that roll, or create a new post for it?
Jul 18, 2017 6:23 am
OOC:
Just add a new post with the roll, that way we can see there has been a new post. In some cases you can then edit the post with the roll to describe the results of the roll, but that won't work for Perception rolls.

G'Rehth feels a twinge of doubt and uncertainty, but mulls his options.

I thought the Force was guiding me toward this stammering human, but now I'm not so sure. But what are my options? I've been stranded here too long, and he has a ship that ISN'T a tramp freighter. It is small enough in size that I might be better able to influence its course. And I don't feel any threat from this human. Hmmm...

Still looking at the ruckus, G'Rehth nods slightly toward Mayron and says: "Hmm...maybe."

Ta'hida remembers seeing these insignia in countless other Imperial Bureaucracy installations across the Galaxy. The rank insignia, in clear imitation of those of the Imperial Navy, indicate these two gentlemen are low-level security guards for the station. It appears the one with the long brown hair is the senior of the two.

As G'Rehth tries to get a good view of the fracas, a small gaggle of trandoshans walk in front, blocking his view completely.
Jul 18, 2017 4:45 pm
Ta'hida smiles as he nears the group. What seems to be the trouble here? Ta'hida quickly sizes up the man they were being troubled by, turns to the senior guard and in his most charming and respectful manner, Can I assist you in any way, sir?

Mayron raises his eyebrows as the Nikto moves his head back and forth, trying to see what's going on.

"Not...seeing good? I need crew who can...see good," he says, frowning as he stumbles over his words. "Looks like someone else beat you to it."

Mayron spots a well dressed, blue skinned humanoid push forward and begin to talk.

"Maybe I hire him?"
Jul 18, 2017 8:33 pm
G'Rehth gives a slight, low growl, and slowly eases his way through the crowd, trying to get closer to understand what is happening.
OOC:

He is attempting to blend in with other spectators, and not yet attract the attention of the security guards. If he can, he will keep it so the guards' backs are to him.

Juse can hear the man bawling over the hubbub of other conversations. It seems he very much doesn't want to go back to his transport. He claims to need to catch another ship, due to leave soon.
OOC:
galrion; roll an Average (2P) Charm check. 1 Setback because he is preoccupied with dealing with the loudmouth.
Flamiel; a Hard (3P) Stealth check, please. 1 Boost because you are behind the guards and another because of the crowds.
Jul 19, 2017 3:09 pm
G'Rehth attempts to move through the crowd, blending in as best he can, so that he can recon the situation and not become a part of it. There are bystanders near the scuffle, if he can just merge with them, he should be close enough to sense the participants moods (if not outright obvious through normal observation).

Rolls

Hard Stealth, with 2 boost

Jul 19, 2017 3:29 pm
G'Rehth slips through the crowd like a shadow, the two guards completely unaware of his movement. The trandoshans he noticed earlier, however, are not so unaware, and they seem keenly interested in why this nikto is sneaking about.
Jul 19, 2017 3:40 pm
OOC:
Well that roll could have gone better.
Ta'hida keeps talking, but he can tell it isn't going to happen. He'll have to leave the stranger to his own devices. However, his main goal of getting the guards on his side seems to be working. I think they're looking at me as a well-meaning citizen, not a fugitive. At least that is helpful.
Jul 19, 2017 8:47 pm
Juse, not wanting to start any trouble, decided to stay put for now. If the man didn't get past the security Juse may still be able to help him somehow, but he would need to talk to the man alone.
Jul 20, 2017 9:31 am
As Mayron follows slightly behind the nikto, he sees him slip with efficiency between the bystanders. The trandoshans that passed by though, turn their heads as a group to follow the tall alien who appears to be so adept at otherwise going unnoticed.

Mayron keeps his distance from them as well, but does his best to keep both them and G'Rehth in sight.
Jul 20, 2017 9:45 am
The senior guard is trying to calm the obviously agitated spacer down;

"We just have some questions for you, sir, then you can be on your way." he says in a slow, almost bored voice. It seems he sees this kind of thing all the time. Despite the apparent unremarkable situation, he is taking no chances and his hand stays firmly on the handle of his stunner in its holster.

The man, a large, dirty, black-haired human with a large bulbous nose and missing teeth, doesn't look impressed,

"I don't got time for your questions, he says, almost spitting the last word, "I got important business I gotta take care of. Now, get outta my way!"

With that he steps back and pushes a passing chadra-fan down in front of himself to block the guards, then makes off to his left, heading towards the further docking bays.
Jul 20, 2017 1:01 pm
Ta'hida, being nearby, bends down to help the Chadra-fan to its feet. Are you okay?
Jul 20, 2017 2:50 pm
Mayron watches as the man speeds off, in no rush to chase down trouble on his first day back amongst the living.
I wonder what that guy's problem was...
He waits to see how G'Rehth reacts, ready to catch his eye.
Jul 20, 2017 3:22 pm
G'Rehth, perplexed by the situation and still not sure what is going on, keeps blending in with the onlookers as the man runs off. He observes the Pantoran's gesture of kindness toward the Chadra-fan, and makes note of it.

Hmm, better not to attract attention until the circumstances here become clearer, G'Rehth thinks. The Pantoran, on the other hand, is inviting scrutiny, so I will see what happens next.

Mayron sees G'Rehth watch the human run off and nods approvingly, more to himself than anyone else.
Got a smart head on him at least. Not going to get us into trouble.
He frowns.
'Us'? Sounds like he's already on board.
Mayron follows the nikto's gaze and sees a pantoran lending a kind hand to a chadra-fan. He shuffles his feet and resists the urge to move closer as he sees these two, feeling an unexplained familiarity blossom at the sight of the nikto and the pantoran together.
Jul 21, 2017 12:16 pm
The guards respond immediately, each obviously knowing the other's move without words. The less experienced man keys his comm requesting backup and explaining where the man is running, while the senior guard draws his stunner, shouting,

"EVERYBODY DOWN! as he aims at the fleeing figure. A blue pulse streaks after the man, but misses and fells an iktotchi onlooker instead.

Ta'hida looks away from the Chadra'fan to see the Iktochi fall. What a mess! Incompetent on all accounts. Typical Imperial. Ta'hida wonders what the man had to hide so badly that he was willing to do all this. His eyes glance at the direction the spacer had come from. I wonder...
Jul 22, 2017 12:07 pm

Mayron can't explain the urge but he feels himself drawn towards the pantoran. He makes his way through the dispersing crowd and kneels besides him and the chadra-fan.
"Anything I can do to....do something... dammit...assistance...to help?"

I've literally just got off that forsaken rock of a world and now I'm getting involved with things that have nothing to do with me!

"What is going on with that guy? What's he hiding?"
Jul 25, 2017 9:27 am
The chadra-fan pushes Mayron’s hands away irritably and climbs to its feet, then scurries away into the crowd.

[i]A sudden oppressive wave washes over each of you; something awful is about to happen![\i]

An explosion rips through the station from the docking bay where the absconding man's ship was docked. A pressure wave pushes everything away and shrapnel fills the air, then everything starts to get sucked back to the new gaping hole as the atmosphere vents. Emergency particle shields activate holding in the air, and now the noises return; metal creaking and groaning, underscored by cries and moans all around. The lights flicker and die, before coming back on a moment later, and the gravity seems to be varying in power.

As your head clears you look back to the docking bay and see that the explosion has opened a hole more than halfway to the centre-hole of the torus. As you watch metal tears and the hole gets even wider. There is a clear stretch of vacuum between you and the other side of the opening.

The lights go red and people start screaming and panicking, rushing to the nearest docking bays and escape pods. People are pushing and shoving and very soon the only calm beings seem to be the four of you; even the security guards have gone running off!
Jul 25, 2017 11:10 am
Mayron's eyes go wide at the sight of the buckling durasteel.

"If you don't have a ship of your own, follow me!" he bellows at no one in particular.

He then sets off at a dead sprint towards his ship.
Jul 25, 2017 2:56 pm

More groaning and crunching noises sound and the floor shakes. "Odd timing for an interview, but is there anything you can bring to the ship, provided you're interested of course?"

Ta'hida looks around and sees that no one else is coming up with something. He starts thrashing his brain and isn't coming up with much except, Wait, the human girl the night before. She was a mechanic, was running late to fix her ship, she was going to take a shortcut through...

Got it! The access point at Sector 7G. That feels like it should be.....ah, that way! Ta'hida smiles, certain now of his bearings and turns to the others.

Ok, I think I've got it. We need to go this way. I think it will lead us to Sector 7G and the other side of the station!

Mayron falters, having led the group towards certain death. When the pantoran seems to have an idea, he pipes up.
"Anything is better than this! Let's...disappear...no, hide,
no...go!"
Aug 6, 2017 11:15 pm
A wave of relief washes of G'Rehth, and he senses similar in the attitudes of his comrades. "Right behind you, Fancy!", he says to the Pantoran, and follows with haste.
Aug 8, 2017 12:21 pm
"The Dip is in berth 59-3! We're right behind you!"
Aug 8, 2017 12:32 pm
Ta'hida takes off in the direction he had indicated, keeping an eye out for the hangar the human had named. He can see signs of increasing damage to the station and the other beings he passes are becoming increasingly frantic.
Aug 8, 2017 3:31 pm
Back on the main causeway it's becoming obvious that the hab ring is unpealing itself from the central refinery. The durasteel walls are buckling at the rim-side and stretching taut at the hub-side. The station is now almost deserted and the glowing drive trails of escape pods fill the view above, where the transparisteel canopy is showing cracks. Fortunately, so far, the emergency shields are doing their job and holding in the atmosphere, but there is still a long way to go to berth 59-3.

As the group travels the debris from the blast lessens, and the station appears significantly less messy, other than the buckling structure.

Ta'hida quickly turns his head to speak to the others,

The station stores some vac suits over in airlock 25-A, its right this way! We may need them before this is over!

Passing a small alcove on the left, G'Rehth notices one of the escape pod doors is slightly open. Ta'hida sees it too, and also feels the presence of several sentients in obvious distress at the other side of it.
OOC:
Ta'hida; take 2 Strain and a Setback on your next roll.
Mayron misses the escape pod, but notices something else beneficial. What do you see?
Aug 9, 2017 6:32 pm
G'Rehth lurches to a halt, "Wait! Over there!", he gestures toward the escape pod. "Something is wrong...". G'Rehth rushes over to the Escape pod to inspect the situation.
Aug 9, 2017 7:02 pm
Ta'hida stops suddenly and looks over at the escape pod. There are people trapped in there! Ta'hida runs over to the pod with the Nikto and examines the pod, trying to determine the issue.

As you get closer you can hear raised voices coming from inside the pod. The people sound frantic and one man seems to be threatening violence.
Aug 9, 2017 7:41 pm
G'Rehth looks confused at Ta'hida, opens the door partially so that he and Ta'hida can both see inside, and then growls inside, "What are you doing?! You all need to get out of here!"
OOC:
and we see....?
Aug 9, 2017 9:04 pm
The door doesn't budge, but G'Rehth can see through the opening that four beings are inside; an angry devaronian male, a cowering rodian female, and a pair of chadra-fan (one of which may well have been the one Mayron had tried to help earlier. At the sound of G'Reyth's voice, all of the occupants turn, each sharing a look of relief.

"Yeah, genius," says the devaronian, "that's what we are trying to do. Which is why we are in an escape pod."

The rodian looks annoyed at this,

"You could just explain the problem instead of givin' attitude, y'know," he sneers, then looks back at G'Rehth, "the door is jammed. The pod can't launch until it seals."

An explosion is heard in the distance, causing both chadra-fan to cuddle together even tighter than they had already been.
Aug 9, 2017 9:09 pm
"What caused it to jam?"

Without waiting for a response Ta'hida looks to see if there is some physical blockage on this side of the door.

One chadra-fan steps forward,

"This station," it says, "we live here many rotations. See problems. Tell bosses. They no care. 'Nothin' gonna happen', they say. Well, happen now."

As the little being talks Ta'hida inspects the door, but can see no obvious damage which would cause the problem. Just scratches and peeling paint.
Aug 9, 2017 10:43 pm
Ta'hida finishes his inspection with dismay. Nothing is ever simple

He looks back at the chadra-fan,

"What kinds of problems?"
Aug 9, 2017 11:24 pm
G'Rehth growls impatiently, "We don't have time for an inquisition! Look and see if there are controls we can use to override, or we'll have to work together to force it closed, or we all die!"
Aug 9, 2017 11:31 pm
Ta'hida glares at the Nikto, but bites down on his anger. "Fine, I'll assume you have a clue what you're doing."

Muttering angrily to himself, Ta'hida looks around for the controls to see if it is a software problem and not a hardware issue.
Aug 9, 2017 11:47 pm
As the others have been hurriedly talking to the trapped occupants of the escape pod, Mayron stumbled past and instead found himself standing alone. He looks back to see G'Rehth and Ta'hida fiddling with some controls on a door of some kind.

Why are they playing with doors at a time like this?

The thought sparks an idea and he takes out his comlink, which he had keyed into the Serendipity's initialisation sequence before he disembarked that morning. He types in the code and gets a confirmation beep.

At least we won't have to waste time warming up the drives now...

Pushing the urgency of the situation out of his mind, G'Rehth notices exposed wires. A reserve power supply for the door mechanics and become disconnected! G'Rehth, working at a panel to the right of the door, feverishly tries one wire after another in the door control terminal. As he works, Ta'hida peers over his shoulder offering advice and encouragement. The station shudders and the people in the pod scream out, and then finally the doors whines slowly shut. As soon as the maglock engages a loud thum is heard as the pod launches.

The group sighs with relief, but their happiness is short-lived as a loud CRRRUUNNCH is heard and the wall starts to twist. A wind picks up, blowing from behind the group.

Best not to linger long.
Aug 15, 2017 8:27 pm
Mayron looks up from his comlink at the sound of a mechanical thunk accompanied by a hiss of compressed gas. Then the wall buckles and ripples, very much unlike durasteel is supposed to do.

"Come on!" he calls. "This place is...broken!"

Mayron takes off once more, having regained some small measure of composure.

Ta'hida runs after the human, the sound of the hull breach lending wings to his stride. He glances up once as he's running and notes the area designation, 25-A.

Ta'hida stumbles to a halt and works the panel to access the vac suits.

Ta'hida's heart thumps as he works the controls and nothing happens. Then, just as it seems like a good time to curse, the door swishes open.

Ta'hida grabs a suit and pulls it on. The sound of crumpling metal and the rising shriek of the air leaving the station is soon mercifully cut off as the helmet clicks into place. He just catches the last part of the human's message "...close?

Ta'hida takes a moment to calm himself and think.

"We should be getting close, I'm feeling good about continuing in this direction."
Aug 16, 2017 7:14 pm
"Awww, space it." G'Rehth also pulls on a vac suit, not willing to be the only one not wearing one, though he was unsure how much it would really help if they were ejected into space.

"Now let's move!"
Aug 16, 2017 10:04 pm
Juse kept his silence at the pod's departure and unceremoniously pulled on the vac suit. The suit was a bit large and his lekku were crammed into funny positions but he'd manage. With his suit on, he followed the rest silently.
Aug 21, 2017 10:17 am
Above you, whole constellations of drive trails now fill the sky as escape pods and ships struggle to get away from the station. The view would be beautifully serene, were it not for the jagged wreckage occasionally spinning past.

The station is now deserted. Discarded food-wraps blow past you as you continue on your way, and overturned signs and carts are the only obstacles. The wind whipping past you is the only sound disturbing the peace.

Up ahead an illuminator has come out of its moorings and is hanging precariously from the ceiling.

Mayron doesn't panic as gravity reasserts itself, he pulls his legs underneath him and cushions his fall.

G'Rehth navigates through the first ten metres of the zero-grav area, holding onto various fixtures and steadily moving forwards. Just as he is getting to an area where he would be out of sight of those following him he grabs a chair which had become wedged under a window-sill, but it comes loose as he grabs it and sends him tumbling to his left. G'Rehth sees a long piece of piping that had fallen to the floor with the debris. He yanks it out of the pile and sticks it out to Ta'hida, to see if he can grip it and be pulled in.

"Dern Pantoran," G'Rehth mutters to himself, "keeps getting stuck on rubbish"
Sep 16, 2017 7:48 pm
Ta'hida sees the piping and decides to take a chance.
Hopefully, this will work

Ta'hida gets a firmer grip on the fencing and pushes against it to propel himself through the zero gravity area. The fencing goes flying off in the opposite direction as Ta'hida hurtles towards the piping. He slides his hand along the piping, hoping the friction created by its irregular surfacing will result in a gradual slowdown of his momentum in order to avoid slamming directly into it and creating further problems for his savior.

G'Rehth pushes off gently from the ceiling, and as he reaches the floor he activates his boots, adhering to the floor with a *thunk*. He starts walking methodically the rest of the way through the corridor.

"Hopefully your ship is where you left it," G'Rehth growls, as he follows as quickly as he can.
Sep 27, 2017 4:00 pm
The station is shuddering violently as the group finds themselves approaching the dock where Serendipity is berthed. The hab ring has become almost entirely separated from the central refinery and cracks are appearing all over the transparisteel canopy above.
Sep 27, 2017 5:04 pm
Vorin runs down the buckling corridor, frantically looking for a way off the station. The ship she came on had already left, and it would be too dangerous to try to stow away on the same ship twice anyway. Nearly all the escape pods are gone, and the one time she thought she had found one she could use, she'd ended up having to give up her seat so a family could get out instead. Trust in the Force, Vorin. Trust in the Force, she thinks as the station flexes beneath her.

As she rounds a corner, something catches her eye. One of the docking rings is still occupied by a ship, and the control panel is blinking to indicate that the ship has powered up. She rushes over to the panel and sees that the ship is called Serendipity. I don't think I could ask for a clearer sign from the Force than that, she thinks. Jabbing the intercom button, she calls into the microphone "Hello, is anyone listening? I need a way off this station before it tears apart!" There is no response from the ship. "Please, the escape pods are gone and there's not much time left!" Still nothing.

Vorin begins poking at the control panel, looking for an emergency override or something that will open the airlock. Maybe the people on board are ignoring her. Maybe they have some kind of problem of their own and can't respond. Maybe there's not anybody on board at all. Regardless, she needs to get on that ship or else she's going to be sucking vacuum real quick.

Speaking to Mayron,"Hmm, seems like you've got someone else taking you up on your offer. I hope you haven't forgotten the access code to your ship...." , his voice trails off.
Oct 2, 2017 7:24 am
Mayron pants as they run.
"All ready to go. Just keep...close watch on...new ones."
He sprints past the Miralan woman, waving her along.
"Nice to meet you! No one in there. But we can be," he yells as he pulls his comlink out and types a code.
The Serendipity's hatch opens and Mayron squeezes in as soon as it widens enough.
"I'll fly! Others...do other stuff!"
Oct 2, 2017 3:32 pm
G'Rehth straps in and prays that this human can actually fly this thing. He fires up the sensor array to start scanning their surroundings for threats.

Screens and status indicators blink to life as the ship quickly comes to life around the group. Power surges through systems and diagnostic information comes streaming in.

Systems nominal.
Power 5... 10... 20... 50... 100%
Sublight drive primed.
Primary hyperdrive spooling up.
Backup hyperdrive dormant.
Weapons powering up.
Shields powering up.
Sensors...

The screens blink to life and it takes G'Rehth a moment to study them to make sense of what he is seeing...

Outside the station is in its final death throes. The ships and pods which evacuated have been getting as much distance between themselves and the station as they could, but now what appear to be some pirates have jumped into the system, or perhaps emerged from some hiding place, and are intercepting and firing upon any craft which comes within their range. The ships which can are evading but the pirates have positioned themselves well on the main jump routes out of the system.
Oct 2, 2017 4:21 pm
Well, at least they aren't telling me to get lost, Vorin reflects as the others brush past her into the ship. "I'm Paqa, by the way," she says as she follows in after them, looking around for a way to make herself useful. She notes the presence of a micro-galley for later and sees the Human and the Nikto heading to the cockpit. Looking the other way down the hallway, her eyes land on a ladder, presumably heading to a turret.

"I'll operate the turret," she calls, hoping there won't be call to actually shoot at anything. The flashing readouts that greet her after she clambers up the ladder suggest otherwise, however. She casts about for an intercom button and finds a headset. Putting it on and flipping on the turret controls, she says, "Turret standing by."
Oct 2, 2017 5:06 pm
"G'Rehth.", G'Rehth says back to her, with a slight nod. "Welcome to our motley crew."
Oct 4, 2017 12:08 am
Ta’hida follows human to the cockpit and straps himself in the copilot seat. Now that he has a chance to think he takes a good look around.
Force preserve me is all he can think as he looks around the cockpit. Clearly the ship was not in peak cleanliness levels. Nothing too overt, well, except for that unidentifiable stain in in the corner. There was just a general sense of neglect.

Ta’hida tore his eyes away from the mess and tried to focus on the flashing lights.

Hey, what do all these buttons do? Why are some flashing?
Oct 4, 2017 9:06 am
The docking clamps release just as the station spasms, violently pushing the Serendipity down and away.
OOC:
You are at the side of the station furthest from the planet, the two groups of pirates are stationed about sixty degrees apart in the opposite direction from Zaddja IV. The station is at Close Range, the planet and the pirates are at Medium range, but in opposite directions.
Oct 4, 2017 4:35 pm
Vorin studies her display intently. It's a target-rich environment for the pirates. Between the more helpless ships and each other, there's plenty of things higher up their list than a small scout ship. Odds were good they could slip away and jump to some other system unmolested.

But memories rush unbidden into her head: Hiding in the desert, watching a lone man stand against dozens of slavers. She figures he's doomed, but this isn't one of the farmers and ecologists she knew. This is a Jedi with a lightsaber, one he clearly knows how to use. Her wonderment increases as she watches the battle inexorably shift in his favor, but her astonishment does not outweigh the fear that keeps her rooted to her hiding place. She could go help him, but what if a slaver gets away and some warlord gets wind of it? What if the Empire finds out? What if...

Vorin takes a deep breath to steady herself and returns to the present. She could easily stay quiet. It's not her ship, and it would be impolite to try to tell the Captain what to do when she's just using it as a lifeboat. Still, if she doesn't want to keep hiding, she needs to keep stepping forward.

"I'm not generally one to pick a fight," she says into the comm, "But if we don't do something, those pirates are going to hurt a lot of people."
Oct 4, 2017 4:45 pm
Kaigen says:
Vorin:

"I'm not generally one to pick a fight," she says into the comm, "But if we don't do something, those pirates are going to hurt a lot of people."
G'Rehth ponders that. "Hmm, she has a point. What are the combat capabilities of this craft, captain?"
Oct 9, 2017 11:32 am
Mayron takes his eyes from the viewport for a moment.
"Er....." he says. His eyes rove across the controls looking for status indicators. "Forward laser....ion....something....concussion....missions, I mean missiles."
He looks at the others and sees conflict in their eyes. His own sense of self-preservation is screaming at him to flee, but the scanners showing the pirates buzzing like flies on carrion make the decision for him. He swears.
"Pick your targets!" he calls out as he throws the ship onto an intercept course. "Give people time to flee,
and someone plot a course out of here for when it gets too hot!"
Oct 9, 2017 4:22 pm
"Aye, plotting a course." Here we go..., G'Rehth thinks.
Oct 11, 2017 2:11 am
"I'm attempting to get a reading on these ships, to see if we stand a chance against them or not. Stand by," G'Rehth scans the pirates to see how cut for battle they are. Maybe these are just a rag-tag assortment of cowardly vultures....
Oct 20, 2017 9:27 am
A particularly bright explosion marks the destruction of a small courier ship and the pirates then turn their attention closer to the station.
Oct 20, 2017 1:43 pm
"Well, Paqa, you're going to get your wish," G'Rehth mutters. "Hostile ships incoming!"

OOC:
The pirate group off to the port side is led by a TL-1200 transport, a converted freighter. It’s escort is three HH-87 Starhopper fighters, a venerable but capable craft used by the Hutts, among others, for decades.

The other pirate group consists of a Corellian YZ-775 medium transport, officially a freighter but it packs a hefty punch, with a screen of two fast but lightly armoured M3-A Scyk interceptors.

The two groups are at Extreme range from each other, and the one to starboard is closing to Short.
Oct 20, 2017 9:28 pm
Mayron throws the ship around to intercept the closer group and give his companions a chance to aim at them.
OOC:
Maneuver
Punch It!
Speed:4

Action
Gain the Advantage (on one of the Interceptors)
OOC:
Edit - And another Purple in case they are going the Speed 4 already.

Rolls

Piloting (Space) [assuming Serendipity going faster than enemy]

3 Success, 2 Advantage

Total: 3 Success, 2 Advantage

Piloting (Space) [in case Interceptor Speed = 4]

1 Failure

Total: 1 Failure

Oct 23, 2017 5:41 am
OOC:
Sorry, forgot to mention their speeds!

Group 1 - Medium Range
TL-1200 Speed:3
3x HH-87 Speed:4 (minion group)

Group 2 - Short Range
YZ-775 Speed:2
2x M3-A Speed:4 (minion group)

Result of Mayron's turn; 2 Success, 2 Advantage

We'll call this a Surprise round, after everybody has had a turn we can roll Initiative for the next round.
The Serendipity explodes out of the cloud of station debris towards the second pirate group, leaving in its wake a station in its final death throes, although the central refinery section appears to be intact. Once clear, the ship turns and lines up on the two interceptors which are harassing the fleeing ships, the pilots of those fighters hadn't been expecting a threat from this direction so late on.
Oct 24, 2017 12:37 am
Are we really doing this? We're heading towards the enemy? Pick my targets? I don't even know what I'm looking at!

Ta'hida looks around desperately, hoping to see what he's supposed to be doing.

Pull yourself together, these scum are the same sort of people that killed mom and dad.

Ta'hida calms down enough and focuses on trying to survive.

Is there an owner's manual that tells me what these buttons do? Is there anything I should be doing?
Oct 26, 2017 2:06 am
Vorin breathes deeply, trying to hold on to her center. The captain is doing a good job of positioning the ship so that she has a clear shot at the interceptors, but the targeting computer is still indicating that the enemy fighters are out of weapons range. She carefully sights in on the nearest interceptor anyway, hoping that their captain isn't forced to make any sudden maneuvers before she has a chance to fire. Still, if there is anything she's good at, it's waiting.
OOC:
Maneuver: Aim at the nearest interceptor.
Action: Trade down to a second maneuver to Aim again.
Oct 27, 2017 2:51 pm
"I've got a lock on the nearest ship. Fire when ready!" G'Rehth announces.
Nov 2, 2017 8:13 pm
Ta'hida calms himself still further. I can do this, everyone else is too busy to carry me.

Closing his eyes is strangely difficult for such a simple task. Reaching out with his as yet underdeveloped sense he knows is there at the edge of his thoughts, he tries to find the button that feels right.

There!

Ta’hida presses down then opens his eyes.

Rolls

Firing that missile

1 Success, 2 Advantage, 1 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 1 Advantage

Nov 3, 2017 2:26 pm
The missile goes thundering out of the tube towards the oncoming fighters, it's exhaust trail glowing brightly behind it. The nimble interceptors react by splitting up, just in time for the missile to fly right between them, exploding just far enough away that small bits of shrapnel ping off their hulls but doing no harm.

Now the pirates have noticed that you are looking for a fight. They change their heading and streak towards you.
OOC:
With the concussion missile, if you miss but get three advantages you can activate the "Guided" quality and it will swing round for another pass. Just so you are aware for next time.

The next player to perform a check against these fighters can get a Boost because they are now out of position and not covering each other properly.

Both Fighters close to Close Range (one maneuver); they want to eliminate any threat you pose! The YZ-775 and the other pirate group are continuing with their own operations and are ignoring you so far. They stay at Short and Medium Range, respectively.

The Fighters attempt to Gain the Advantage with their Action.

Edit: No no no no no. Actually, that was the end of the Surprise Round! Now we roll Initiative! You guys use Cool and the Pirates can use Vigilance (since you have surprised them).

Rolls

Fighters: Gain the Advantage

3 Success, 2 Advantage, 2 Threat

Total: 3 Success

Fighter group Vigilance check

4 Success

Total: 4 Success

Nov 5, 2017 5:40 pm
"Well, we got their attention. Can we please not miss with the next shot? Captain, maybe you should take the shot."
Nov 6, 2017 9:20 am
Mayron turns to him, eyebrows almost in his hairline.

"Fly...and shoot? But I...er..."

The afterglow of their failed attack highlights the pirate's as they begin to line up their attack runs.

"Here goes nothing."

Mayron lines up his own shot and squeezes the trigger for the forward cannons.

Rolls

Gunnery (forward cannons)

1 Success, 5 Advantage, 2 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 3 Advantage

Nov 6, 2017 10:18 am
OOC:
Since the interceptors are flying towards you, their Fore Defense rating comes into play, so I need to roll a Setback to represent that, and it gets added to your roll above.

Edit: oof, that's now a miss. But you have three Advantages to spend, I'll assume you're passing one of them over to the gunner as a Boost.
Mayron sends some red beams streaking towards the interceptors. The lasers pound against your adversaries' shields, causing them to twist and weave to avoid any more fire. As they do so, they come further into the sweet spot for the turret.
OOC:
See next post.

Rolls

Interceptor defense

1 Failure

Total: 1 Failure

Nov 6, 2017 12:27 pm
OOC:
I think my Gain the Advantage is still in effect from the first round, and the pirate's haven't gone yet this round,
so I can choose where they are hit? Is that right? If so, I'll go with their aft sections, or whichever is least shielded.
Nov 6, 2017 12:44 pm
OOC:
They only have a Defense quality at the front, so Aft would work fine.

That means you hit, and I assume you will use two of your Advantages to activate the Linked quality, meaning you hit twice. Each hit does 4 damage (5 base, 1 for the 1 Success, less Armor of 2), so you did 8 damage!
Mayron sends deadly red laser beams streaking towards the interceptors. The lasers pound against their shields, blasting right through and blowing the first interceptor into an expanding cloud of debris, and clipping the other.
Nov 7, 2017 12:06 am
As Mayron bears down on one interceptor, Vorin instead focuses on tracking the other one with the turret. As soon as the targeting computer indicates that the fighter is in range, she hits the trigger, sending ion bolts racing towards the ship.
OOC:
I'm assuming my aim maneuvers from the previous round are still applicable. If not, Vorin will strain for a second maneuver to aim twice this round before shooting.

Rolls

Gunnery check to attack interceptor

2 Success, 4 Advantage, 1 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 3 Advantage

Nov 8, 2017 11:06 am
Vorin's ion bolts paint the interceptor in crackling energy and short out some of its systems. The interceptor reacts sluggishly, but the pilot obviously doesn't want to hang around, and he high-tails it back towards the armed freighter which was still harassing some merchants, all the while the pilot frantically rebooting systems.
OOC:
The interceptor uses its Maneuver to move from Close to Short range. It also uses an Action to perform Damage Control (in this case the Interceptor's System Strain is more than half of its threshold, so the check is Average).

Rolls

Damage Control

2 Advantage, 2 Threat

Nov 22, 2017 1:49 pm
Mayron throws the ship into pursuit and hounds the interceptor, looking to line up a shot for the others.

Rolls

Gain the advantage (piloting)

1 Success, 4 Advantage, 3 Failure

Total: 2 Failure, 4 Advantage

Nov 22, 2017 8:44 pm
The interceptor retreats, but Vorin knows it's too much to hope that they've decided to disengage entirely, so she continues tracking as Mayron pursues it towards the larger ship. She carefully lines up her shot, then relaxes and lets the Force guide her reactions, firing when the moment feels right.
OOC:
Strain for two maneuvers, aiming twice, Gunnery check to attack the Interceptor while using Flow to try to regain some strain.

Rolls

Attack with Flow

1 Success, 1 Advantage, 2 Failure, 1 Threat, 1 White Force Point

Total: 1 Failure

Nov 30, 2017 10:41 pm
G'Rehth forgot how much he dislikes space combat. Much better to have a sword in hand. He works the computer, trying to get a weapons lock again. "Hey Pantoran, you know where the right button is now, right? It's the flashing red one!" Well, maybe at least their gunner can hit something....
OOC:
Action for computers check. Maybe net successes/advantages can carry over to next combat check?

Rolls

Computers check for weapons lock

4 Success, 1 Advantage

Total: 4 Success, 1 Advantage

Nov 30, 2017 11:47 pm
Ta’hida looks at the panel and looks to see if there is a better way to aim than just guessing. I think I’ve got it.

Rolls

Gunnery check

2 Success, 1 Failure

Total: 1 Success

Dec 1, 2017 1:58 pm
OOC:
I think G'Rehth's action would be Average difficulty, so I'll roll the two Purple. Any successes can be used to upgrade Ta'hida's gunnery check once, and I'll roll those dice here too. So let's see what we get...
G'Rehth get 3 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Threat. Interesting. I'll use the Threat to say that Ta'hida has locked the computer onto the Interceptor so well, that nobody can get it to target anything else. So Gunnery checks on other targets will get a Setback die until G'Rehth is able to fix the problem by doing a Hard Computers check with at least one net success.
Those three Successes can now upgrade Ta'hida's check... which is difficult when it has already been rolled. Damn. Should have thought about that. Okay, the check should have been 2 yellow and a green, so I'll use one of the Green already rolled (which is easier because they both came out the same) and I'll roll the two Yellows...
So now the Gunnery check would be 2 Success and 2 Advantage. I assume you will use your two Advantages to activate the Linked quality, meaning you hit twice. Each hit does 5 damage (5 base, 2 for the 2 Success, less Armor of 2), so you did 10 damage!
The last Interceptor explodes in a cloud of combusting gases. leaving the YZ-775 without an escort. The large freighter adjusts its heading to rendezvous with the other group of pirates.
OOC:
The freighter moves to Short Range. The other group are still at Medium Range.

Rolls

G'Rehth's purple dice

1 Threat

Total: 1 Threat

Ta'hida's yellows

2 Success, 2 Advantage

Total: 2 Success, 2 Advantage

Dec 12, 2017 3:40 pm
Mayron watches the scopes as the pirate vessel retreats.

"Hail the civilians. Tell them to run. While they have the chance, " he says. "Someone else plot us a course out of here."
Dec 13, 2017 4:25 am
G'Rehth, relieved to hear this, begins work on the Nav. "Enough space fighting for one day!"
OOC:
check has boost because I'm sure Ta'Hida is going to help me, right. ;-)

Rolls

Astrogation check

1 Success, 5 Advantage

Total: 1 Success, 5 Advantage

Dec 13, 2017 11:34 am
Is that a good idea? I’ve no love for combat, but if allowed to flee will these raiders not continue to harm others? Given the chance to stop them now, is not failure to act making us complicit in their further wrongdoings?

Ta’hida sits with a pensive look on his face, thinking of the damage pirates, raiders , and slavers do.
Dec 13, 2017 3:24 pm
Vorin lets out the breath she had been subconsciously holding as the fighter explodes and the pirate freighter begins pulling away. She clicks on the intercom, "We've made an opening for others to get gone, but unless this ship has claws it's been keeping retracted,
I don't think our odds against the rest of those pirates are good. We might want to make ourselves scarce as well."
Dec 14, 2017 10:15 pm
Mayron looks at the conflicted looks on his new crew's faces, looks at the affirmative nod from G'Rehth, and makes the decision.

"We can't help anyone if we're dead. We're leaving."

Pulling on the yoke to set them onto the calculated course, he pulls the lever to make the jump to lightspeed.

"Good luck, " he thinks as he sees the civilians beginning to make their escapes as well.

https://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/2/29/Hyperspacetunnel.png/revision/latest?cb=20130312014417

Stars turn to starlines which change to the familiar mottled tunnel of hyperspace. How long has it been since circumstance thrust you all together? Surely only minutes, but with everything which has happened it seems much longer. But now that you have time to breath you realise you know very little about your new companions.
OOC:
The Serediptiy isn't a particularly large craft, but now would be a good time to explore and get to know it. You also have several new companions to properly introduce yourselves to.
Dec 15, 2017 5:17 pm
Vorin watches with interest from the turret dome as the ship goes to hyperspace. Considering on her recent trips she's had to find an inconspicuous corner to wait out the ride in, it has been quite some time since she's been able to watch the jump, years even. She feels a certain degree of peace as the bright tunnel of hyperspace takes form. It's just her and the void. Well, and the other people on the ship, the thought of which reminds her that she should get to know her fellow travelers.

Vorin climbs down from the turret and walks to the cockpit, standing off to the left where there seems to be a bit more room. "So where are we headed anyway? Not that I have anywhere in particular to be, but it's nice to know." She smiles, "Also, I don't think I caught anyone's name in the rush, I'm Paqa, in case you missed it the first time."
Dec 20, 2017 4:34 am
G'Rehth exhales a sigh of relief, then pushes himself away from the console. "Bah, space fighting. Give me a good vibrosword face-to-face with an opponent any day over that."

Looking back at Paqa, he says somewhat sheepishly (as much as any Nikto could show), "G'Rehth. And I'm actually not quite sure which coordinates the computer locked in on. It was a little frantic back there. It's either Cerea or Takodana, I think...."
Jan 2, 2018 4:12 pm
Mayron let's out a breath he didn't remember holding as the starscape turns into the reassuringly bright lights of hyperspace.
"At least we're safe while we jump," he says to no one in particular. "You, navigating man, can you please figure out where we're going? I don't want it to be...bad."
Jan 2, 2018 4:23 pm
Ta’hida pushes back the mood that had come upon him, focusing on the now.

Ta’hida smiles at Mayron and claps him on the shoulder. That was a great piece of flying. Even with a novice like myself you got us out in great shape. Like you I’d love to know where we are going. I’d also like to add, "How long will it take to get there?"

G'Rehth fiddles for a minute with the computer. "Yes, yes, let me see.... come on, you stupid little...I should be able to get it here in just a minute."
OOC:
Need a roll for this or can the computer tell us?
Jan 5, 2018 3:51 am
G’Rehth’s fiddling quickly bears fruit and he sees they are en-route to a planet called Takodana. Ta’hida will probably recognise the name as his family has probably at one time or another done some business at Maz’s Castle.
Jan 7, 2018 3:35 pm
Takodana? I’ve heard of it. Tashtor sector. A great meeting place no matter your direction. Dangerous if you’re not careful. I’ve heard that you need to clear things through some criminal named Maz if you want to do anything serious.

Ta’hida thinks to himself for a moment.

I’ve heard that the Jedi and Sith fought there. My tutors wouldn’t tell me more than that, though.

"So, is that our plan? Head to Takodano? Get our bearings? " Mayron says, leaning against the back of the pilots seat. "That is...I could use crew...and you guys seem handy in a spot."
Jan 16, 2018 7:36 pm
"I...suppose?" Vorin said, somewhat thrown by the speed at which things were proceeding. "I could use a steady berth. What line of work are you in?" She's painfully aware that this was not a good time to be asking potentially sensitive questions, but it wasn't as though she had had time to stop and ask them when the station was falling apart and they were fighting pirates.
Jan 18, 2018 4:31 pm
Takodana. Takodana. Hmmm. What do I know about that?

Rolls

Knowledge outer rim

2 Success, 3 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 1 Advantage

Jan 18, 2018 8:46 pm
G’Rehth remembers that, despite being on an important hyperspace route and being a verdant world, Takodana is only sparsely populated.

Ta’hida recalls that Maz’s Castle is the main stop on the planet. The city of Gantan is not particularly welcoming of outsiders, and the food is terrible. He also thinks that the Empire has so far not felt the need to establish a presence on the planet.
Jan 18, 2018 10:54 pm
"Line of work? It's in...flux at the moment. I was imagining I would take whatever it would take to keep us spaceworthy. I mean...my old line of work was as a treasure hunter. Specifically jedi relics. So I could go back to that."
Feb 9, 2018 5:03 am
G'Rehth is interested. "Mmm, Jedi relics, did you say? I happen to have my own interests in that area, but such things are dangerous - forbidden - illegal, even."

G'Rehth pauses a bit while he studies the captain.

"Takodana is not heavily populated, but there could be work to find there, or leads to more...interesting ventures. Count me in, Captain. "
Feb 9, 2018 11:47 am
Ta’hida pauses and reflects back less on his schooling and more on overheard conversations. He hears his mother’s voice in his mind and the sound is enough to drive him almost to tears. I say we visit Maz on takodana. The empire has no real presence in the region and she is 5he sort that can get things done.
Ta’hida pulls himself together and addresses the group.
Visiting Maz on Takodana is the wisest course. I’ve heard of little to no presence of the empire there and at the very least it affords us the ability to orient ourselves on solid ground.
Feb 10, 2018 4:35 pm
It seems this is where the Force wants me to be, Vorin thinks to herself, though I'm not sure whether it's to find or to make sure relics aren't sold to the wrong people.

Out loud, she says, "I've no qualms with that line of work. Count me in." She looks around at the cockpit. "Mind you, I've only ridden on starships as a passenger, so I might need a little help finding my bearings, but I promise I'm no stranger to hard work."

Nodding at G'Rehth and Ta'hida, she says, "It sounds like we've got a plan of action then. I'm going to take a look around the ship and get my bearings, so let me know if there's anything that needs doing." She waves as she leaves the cockpit, walking the length of the ship and noting the layout.
