Chapter 5: Blingdenstone

Dustin strikes out from his hidden position, landing a very serious blow on the vile creature as he shimmers into view. His sword cleanly pierces her shoulder, drawing forth a swell of blood that makes a stark impression in the grayscale of the dark. With his second strike, he slips the blade under her bowstring and slices, not quite severing the string fully, but at a glance it looks unable to take tension.

The medusa shrieks and attacks Stool, her hatred for the myconid far greater than the hatred for the pain inflicted by Dustin. She swings her sword twice and her writhing snake hair snaps out once. Her hatred fuels her combat prowess, and all three strikes land true, the second sword stroke and snapping hair especially. Stool collapses into a heap on the ground, breath barely registering, unconscious.

When Heartboiler moves into the room, Cemos sees the Medusa staring at him and feels a twinge of magical power wash over him. However, he is able to shrug it off without issue.

I'd like to use my portent roll back on page 11. Substituting whatever roll Medusa used on Stool with a 2. Also, for the next attack that misses, I'm substituting that roll with 19. Might be mine.
Bildaweer casts Melf's Acid arrow at the Medusa.
OOC:
On a hit, the target takes 4d4 acid damage immediately and 2d4 acid damage at the end of its next turn.

Rolls

Melf's Acid Arrow - (1d20+7)

(17) + 7 = 24

Acid Damage - (4d4)

Pick attack 1, 2, or 3 please. Without a selection moving forward, I'll apply a portent change to the first roll a multiattack creature makes.

The first one is fine.

As the medusa swings her sword at Stool the first time, a glimmer of light shines around her body and the sword misses instead of hitting! Unfortunately, the second and third attacks of hers still hit and he still crumples unconsciously to the floor, but the bruising on his body isn't nearly as bad as it could be.

Heartboiler listens carefully to Cemos and does exactly as he says. Hold on! she says as she rages, calling to her spirit warriors. Blindly she walks, turns and swings, using her other senses as good as possible to try and hit the medusa. She swings Cloudstrike left to right, then right to left before focussing on her warriors, sending them to the medusa, trying to distract the snake haired woman and protect the others.

choose one creature you can see within 5 feet of you. Until the start of your next turn or until your rage ends, the chosen creature has disadvantage on any attack roll that doesn’t target you, and if the creature takes the Disengage action within 5 feet of you its speed is halved until the end of its turn

Heartboiler's strikes both find their mark, striking the drow woman.

Georges dashes into the room, drawing his scimitar and attempts to take a pair of swings at the woman, forgetting in his charge to hold the crystal to his face. He moves sluggishly, not able to land a hit at all!

Bildaweer's acid arrow blasts into her chest, splashing her.

The medusa attacks after Dustin lightly stabs her. DIRTY FUNGUSMAN! DIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! she shrieks as she raises her sword up and stabs down into Stool's still form twice. Stool's barrel chest collapses and doesn't swell again.

The medusa's face breaks into a wide cackling grin. You are all next, you filthy surfacers! Turning to look to Georges, she hisses and her hair lashes out, slamming into him, dealing 20 damage to the slowing man. Her cackle dies out slightly as the acid from Bildaweer's attack burns her flesh once again.

Bildaweer and Cemos, I'll need a CON save from each of you (DC14). On failure, you are restrained. If you use the crystal, make the save at advantage.

What previously had been swirling masses of ghostly figures around the medusa suddenly coalesce into distinct figures as the medusa stabs down into Stool. You all recognize the two goliaths from previous times that they've made an appearance, however the third figure is shorter than before. While Heartboiler can't see it, the rest of you recognize Eldreth's ghostly figure with shield and hammer in hand, standing as a staunch defender of the living.

holy sjit, what's up with all those ones?
Not seeing any of the things happening, but hearing the distress about Stool Heartboiler grits her teeth, feeling her rage fill her body. Doing precisely what Cemos says she moves her feet, body and sword first swinging down upon the drow, then lunging forward, putting all her strength and weight behind the stab and twist.

Meanwhile her spirit warriors, all three of them, seem very intend on annoying and distracting the medusa as much as possible, whirling around her and flying straight through her, seemingly fueled by the horrible death of Stool.

Rolls

Attack 1 + damage - (1d20+8, 2d6+7)

1d20+8 : (1) + 8 = 9

OOC:
Bilda, I'll just make the 5s all 4s. I think having them hit with emphasis makes for a better narrative. :)
Bildaweer and Cemos both feel the magic of the medusa wash over them, but they steadfastly shake it off, as does Georges now that he has her measure. Bildaweer's cry seems to empower his missiles, slamming into the drow woman with great force. She staggers back just a touch, making Heartboiler's first swing go wide, missing the medusa. However, Bildaweer cocks his head as she pulls back for the lunge and tiny little arcane tendrils work their business on Cloudstrike, guiding it true. The greatsword erupts out of the medusa's back, her heart pierced on the end of it. Dustin deftly steps to the side, leaving him with a close up view of the glowing purple runes, now coated with a thin layer of blood. The medusa's eyes flutter closed and Heartboiler feels the dead weight of the creature settle onto her blade. The last peals of thunder from Cloudstrike echo through the chamber.

Using Bildaweer's portent as per his post for the next missed attack. Turns HB's 1 into a 19, which is a RESOUNDING strike.

Combat OVER! Well done.
