Qavez assists Xalvador in researching what is needed.

Xalvador expertly searches through the books and quickly discovers a single tome that is relevant: a history of the town. Skimming through it, he comes to a passage about the stone itself. As Morak had told them, it is the eponymous landmark of the town. No-one has had any idea what the markings on the stone say, other than to posit that they are runes in an unfamiliar language (the pattern of repetition indicates runes rather than letters). There is a complete recording of the symbols in the book.

"Wow. Why so many books though?" Xed rifles around everything in the room, looking for something interesting that isn't a book.

Xed finds some scrolls that have pretty pictures of trees and mountains and tiny towns.

"Well, it's obvious the giants were very interested in it," says Qavez. "Obviously they either understand the runes, or at the very least they understand the stone's significance. Where else would we be able to find information about it?"
Oct 15, 2018 1:58 pm
"Do we know any giants? Like good ones? Maybe we could find one and ask them?" Maru says uncertainly.
Oct 15, 2018 2:19 pm
Xalvador pulls out a sheaf of paper and a writing kit and he proceeds to make a copy of the symbols recorded in the book "Given our proximity to Waterdeep that may be our best bet to find more information. For now however I suggest we turn our attentions to helping the folk here, we can consider our next move once things are more settled."
OOC:
If I remember right Nightstone is really close to Waterdeep but if not just insert name of nearest city in it's place lol

Qavez nods to Maru. "Good idea," he says. "Unfortunately, I don't know of any giants, but I'm sure whatever major city we journey to for research on these runes is sure to have an answer for that, too."

You remember correctly!

Xalvador ponders things for a moment "Not to sound indellicate but asides from idle curiosity what are we looking to achieve out of finding out the giants intent with the stone? It was all they seemed to be interested in and now they have it it's likely that they won't return to bother the townsfolk again. As I said I'm all for helping the folk here get back on their feet but what are we doing beyond that? I would be interested in sticking with you all if that is of interest to the rest of you, we all seem to work well together so far but it is not likely that there will be much long term call for a group such as ours in this town"
OOC:
Not sure if everyone is in the library together or not but I'm assuming most of us are. Also caedmonr appears to have dropped off (showing as inactive for the last 2 months) so not sure how we're playing things in relation to Chanler (as they are the only character who has specific ties to Nightstone I beleive)
Oct 16, 2018 4:38 pm
"Because I think we're on the cusp of something interesting," says Qavez. "Giants don't exactly come out of the clouds to flatten a town every day. There's got to be a reason, and something in my gut says it's going to be big... pardon the pun."
Oct 16, 2018 11:18 pm
OOC:
Yes, Chanler's just being quiet at the moment. If I need him for the story, I'll DMPC him for a bit. But for now, you are absolutely on the right track and more things will be happening.
Oct 17, 2018 8:16 am
Xalvador nods and smiles "I was more wanting to ensure we are on the same page as it were than raising any specific objections to trying to glean some more information. I have made a copy of the symbols that were on the stone so we at least have a starting point for more research. I am going to head back downstairs to see if there is any other assistance I can offer but as I said once things are a bit settled here, maybe in a few days, I would be willing to head out to see what light we can shed on why the giants were so interested in the stone" as he finishes he stands and moves to leave the room.

Not knowing what else she can do to contribute, Xed takes out her pan flute and plays a jaunty tune.

Qavez nods. "Sounds like a plan. Let's see what these folk need to rebuild and we can plan for some research afterward."
Oct 21, 2018 12:54 pm
"when I was younger I helped a mason for a season. It taught me a small amount of building experience. I'm no expert but I can help rebuild some structures. I would rather of course make the giant s pay for this with their blood. I'll follow the lead on this." Maru seems content to follow anyone with a plan.

Qavez will try to work with the guards and townsfolk to figure out who ought to be a leader, at least on a temporary basis until the town gets back on its feet. Ideally, someone everyone respects enough to trust their decisions.
Nov 1, 2018 6:12 pm
"But where did they all go? Maybe this is just a mid-un-derstand-in?"
Nov 5, 2018 12:53 am
The problem that quickly becomes apparent is there is no leader. The captain of the guard was killed in the same attack that took the Lady, and now the town is left bereft of guidance. The one thing everyone agrees upon is that they all need some rest before making such important decisions.
