In the midst of rebuilding civilization after the end of the Desolation, Feyshear citizens found themselves in need of a way to easily transit their ever growing city. Enter The Sparksteel Guild. Originally a dwarven mining guild, they found a vein of alchemical adamantine deep under the surface of Feyshear. The alchemists of the time posited that it could be the proximity to the Feywild gate that imbued the metal with the alien magic. Regardless of how it happened, they realized it had strange reactions to arcane magic. It produced a pull powerful enough to move the heavy mining carts with little effort. They were able to replace their entire draft animal supply with a just a few tons of the metal. Fashioned into a thin strip pressed into one of the rails, all it took to move an entire train of ore was a single arcane spellcaster trickling a steady stream of power into a focusing crystal. In just a century or two, they monopolized the practice of obtaining the metal and manufacturing it into the rail strips as well as supplying the spellcasters to drive them. They moved from mining carts to cross-city trains for the elite. Now, nearly 800 years after it started, the Adamantine Rail provides affordable transit all over the city.
Costs vary, but frequent travelers can purchase a Transit Cuff. These silver arm bands studded with pearls taken from the raging sea are enchanted by the Sparksteel Guild to glow with a soft white light. Every trip, one of the pearls will darken, showing that the ride has been claimed. Holders can pay a nominal fee to have their Cuff recharged for more rides.
