As you may know, I'm currently working on rebuilding the site into a new technology, which will help me push future updates faster, along with making the site a lot faster and fun to use (I hope). Part of the update is also me fixing a lot of the smaller buggy things and UI issues no one likes.
One of these things I'm thinking about removing and want some feedback on is the fixed header. Right now, as you scroll, the header sticks to the top of the page, going from a taller height to a smaller one as you scroll down. I'm 100% getting rid of that functionality; the header will be large on the logged out landing page, and smaller everywhere else. I figure if you're already on the site, logged in, you don't care about site logo.
What I'm looking for feedback on is the "fixed" part, meaning it stays stuck to the top of the page as you scroll. You've probably noticed it causes issues on pages like the forums when you jump to a part of the page, and the part you jump to is under the header. It's a silly bug that's easily removed by not making the header sticky. Another solution is to move the menu to the left, leaving just user stuff up top, a la Facebook, but I don't have the design chops to find a clean solution for that (do you have any ideas?). I also suspect there's an easy CSS solution to the jumping problem that I just can't think of.
Anyway, feedback?
