"Wait, can we get by without taking the barricade down? Might be helpful in the case there's something down there that decides it's time to come up." Max peers into the darkness.

"We can't be that far down. Probably just a barricade to stop us humans from getting in... Hopefully," Lucas adds.

Tezoc tears the barricade down with no issues; throwing chunks of debris downstairs with wanton abandon.
OOC:
I doubt Tezoc is listening. Let me know if you instead wanted to take things carefully :D
As the barricade comes down, people who are behind Tezoc (enough to be in danger of being clipped by a thrown plank of wood) can see the passage gives way to a large room; paved tiles, and illuminated- there are cracks in the roof! You must be near the surface. Sadly the roof is about twelve foot high, and obviously shattered by the earthquakes.

The sight of actual natural light almost distracts you from the room itself. Adorned with plinths with similar markings to the pillars in the room below. There are some old rusted weapons, broken urns, and stone boxes ceremonially lain atop of them. In the center of the room is a grand pillar; nearly six foot in diameter forming the major support for the room, beautifully adorned. There are archways at the other end of the room, which look like they used to lead to another door, but instead now lead to nothing but caved in rock.

Lucas moves carefully into the room, looking around while moving towards the central pillar. Taking a closer look at the the adornings.

It's... a map? Lucas has some knowledge of geography, and even as badly mapped as the Western Reaches are, he can recognise The Smoke and Siren Forest and extrapolate from there. There are markings in places that don't correspond with the real landmarks which must be as a result of the tectonic activity the region has undergone over the past centuries, but with some time maybe some information can be gleaned.

Below the map are similar engravings to the pillars in the room below; only grander, better crafted. Tezoc can identify this one easily; this one's dedicated to a priest who's likeness is carved into the pillar above the map, his head and shoulders eight times around the pillar, with different expressions, staring down to the floor from on high.

"Damn, who's this ugly mug? Why's he making all these different faces?" Maximilien asks of no one in particular.
Dec 18, 2017 8:23 am
Tezoc stares at the face carved in the pillar and searches his fragmented memory. Does he know who this person was?
Dec 19, 2017 4:12 am
"Anything to show for our troubles thus far?" Xadra starts walking around the room, looking for anything of particular interest or worth.

Tezoc does indeed recognise the person; and they were someone truly important. A famous, old map maker and explorer. Perhaps an old teacher while he was a child? A member of court he saw once... the memories are hazy...
OOC:
... and entirely up to you to decide the specific details on :)
Xadra and Beast start trying to look for something, anything, about the room that will yield something that will help. As they reach one of the plinths, Beast, being a giant cat, finds it makes for a comfortable perch. As they mount the plinth it illuminates with a faint blue glow, and it trails a similarly glowing blue path from the plinth to the central column, better illuminating it. The position of the light is... if you try to determine the location of it properly... maybe a few miles north of Fort Wet Noodle? It's difficult to tell exactly.

There's something grimly rumbling from within the column
OOC:
Mark XP, Xadra. And we'll slow down over Christmas
Dec 23, 2017 4:29 am
"That isn't what I had hoped it would be. What do you make of it?"
Dec 28, 2017 8:28 pm
"Curious. Better hop down. Rumbling is almost never good, especially when you're underground.

Anybody know what might be at the spot that got lit up? Maybe... should we try putting stuff on some of the other columns to see what else gets lit up? Probably not ourselves, just in case. What do y'all think?"
Dec 29, 2017 8:54 am
"Probably just mountains and forest," Lucas complains. "But it could be treasure that could bring glory to the Empire. It's too difficult to tell. We can explore the area when we get out of here."
Jan 2, 2018 7:06 pm
Tezoc stares at the rumbling column in anticipation. The face carved on it is the first tangible clue that this lost civilization could hold the key to his past...and his destiny.

Back from Christmas break, monitoring responses again
Jan 18, 2018 4:42 am
"Enough of this. We keep moving further in. Tezoc, think you can clear that archway?"
Jan 28, 2018 7:28 pm
"Nothing can stand in Tezoc's way," the barbarian replies, "but I doubt there is anything beyond those cave-ins. Surely there are more passages and chambers..."
Feb 4, 2018 1:27 pm
"There's gotta be something around here that can give us a clue as to what this place is—and what it's for." Max begins rummaging through random bits of rubble, opening stone boxes, etc.
OOC:
If he doesn't find anything, he'll likely try to find something heavy to put on top of another plinth to see if it lights something else up.
