Personally, I'm a big fan of keeping the NPCs we take along to a minimum. I like the idea of Sorcha and Doirind staying behind. Mostly, I like the idea of leaving room for NPCs to join ijn the future. A reset where the group moves forward and is 100% open for a fresh start.

I'm with Ez here. It'll be fun if Sorcha or Doirind make guest appearances again later on but I prefer to keep the crew tight for the majority of the adventure.

I agree entirely with the above on NPCs. They are meant to be on the periphery of the story, not playing lead roles center stage for multi-Episodes.

Don't get me wrong, I your NPC's! I love how they are so "life-like" and not merely walking stat blocks! They really add richness to the world you've created!

Haha. Jabes, Bro, no worries at all. I love using NPCs - integral part of the game, especially in versions like ours that focus on people more than monsters. But I'm the first in line to get NPCs out of the rotation before they become "regulars", so you guys feeling the same way is just 100% fine with me.

As mentioned previously: #1 Dislike of DMJ = NPC vs. NPC battles. That overall is why I mentioned the Followers and Henchman option.

I like entourages, side kicks, wingmen, growing ally lists and the like. Really cool. Some people like the idea of building up a company or gang or guild, and I definitely don't want to squash it if that desire is out there, but I want to start sharing management responsibilities with the Players' Club in on the fix if we want to start seeing that side of the game and story.

Scheduling and Game Planning

What is everyone's schedule looking like in December?

I'd like to propose restarting the game on Episode 2 next week, maybe starting on Tuesday 5 December.

BUT...I want to gauge what the reality is on participation.

Request: Post up here on AAR if re-starting next week and proceeding at normal schedule is possible for you.

If not, or if everyone thinks that December and holidays are just too much going on to really game at all, let's talk about that too --see if we can adjust to something that makes sense on balance of reg life and keeping the game going.

And to plunge in like we are on these sorts of topics, I guess now is the time to do a pulse check and make sure everyone here on the team wants to keep going on the project. You guys know what sort of schedule we ran in the past, so it's fine to just assess and decide if everyone is still all in. I want to keep the band together, no doubt about it, but I don't want anyone to plod on with some sense of commitment or guilt, but all the while not really enjoy the obligation. Send me a PM if you want to talk offline.

This definitely is not meant to be a downer conversation or a judgment or an any sort of announcement of a problem. Not at all. I'm just trying to plan out my prep time, get the right input, and figure out what all needs to be done for a successful reboot.

Thanks,
J-Task

Ha! Good to hear from C.Brewski -- with the Darth Vader shaking the hand phone symbol: "Call me!". Haven't seen that in a while.

Welcome back. Catch up and let us know what is going on with Fat Maeriks.

Y'all,

I have to predict some intense days on the reg life job today and tomorrow, so I have to delay the kickoff of Ep 2 at least 1 day.

I am aiming now for Wednesday 6 December, with some chance that it might have to shift to Thursday 7 December.

Sorry about the change. I'm still motivated to get started and don't want to lose momentum. Thanks for sticking with it

Will catch up with you as soon as I get free, or maybe intermittently if I get breaks.

Yo, fellas. Rules change announcement: The Flexibility of Proficiency House Rule is discontinued.

I'm dropping this rule after giving it the trial run in Ep 1. I've talked to Ez about it on the PM side and given long-winded reasons why. On a quick summary, I liked the idea of the rule, thought it might be cool, but after the play test I just felt that it skewed certain decision-making and mechanics with combat in ways that I wasn't completely satisfied with, at least not with this setting.

So thanks for bearing with me on the test balloon and now again on the shift away from it. If anyone is really frustrated with it or needs more talk on this, I'm game for talking further if you want to reach out to me by PM or on the boards.

Whew, It is good to know that I can just leave it on attack like I always did and not have to not think about it like I didn't anyways. :P

What I liked the least

.......

The other thing is the format of these boards. I've mentioned it in one of the main threads on the site: I wish we could have a better search function for the forums. For a while I was copying and pasting Episode 1 into a google doc so I could search it for past posts, but it got too long and wasn't loading right once we got past 50 pages. I noticed this most when I wanted to reference something one of us had done or said, but couldn't remember exactly when it had happened. This meant clicking through pages and searching each one for a phrase, which was painstaking and annoying. I'm not sure how we could bypass this frustration going forward, but I'd love to hear some ideas.
True. I also wish you could have a search function. At the very least, I wish we could have a sidebar or pop-up of some sort available where we could quickly navigate to ANY numbered page from a complete list. Right now, you can only choose between 3-5 consecutive pages to jump to, with the list at the very bottom of the screen. If you are trying to click backward or forward, it turns out that you can only shift 2 pages per click, scrolling all the way down each time!

I have thought about breaking Episodes up into Chapter Threads, to lessen the size, but I don't really want to. I want to keep the number of threads extremely limited on our active gameplay locations.

Not sure if there is a tech solution on this though unless the site changes it on the programming, coding, whatever. Maybe computer-expert CB can come up with something and speak some Nerdese with Rohit or Keleth the site manager(s). (Are those 2 the same (real name and handle) or is it 2 guys?)
Those two are the same, Rohit the person is Keleth here on the boards.

I've taken a look at the original GP code with the intent to add some features. I had to very nicely ask Keleth to make the GP code open source. He didn't want to initially since he felt it was too messy to be of any use. I should have listened to him - it really is bad and I spent an evening one trying to figure it out to add some enhancements to the dice roller. I was partially successful, but it was painful. I'll see if I can do something else about it...
