Yes. You could work with some of the pier managers and hire them out for that. Price? I don't know. Would have to look it over as a fraction of lifestyle costs. It's a little steep because this is a way for them to make money during this time when travelers dock here for a while then return. Have to pay 30 days up front and then some rate will accrue after that. You can afford it though.

Pier manager's name, guy who could cover this with his crew, is Rumyo.

OOC:
The plan described in Admin would seem to work out just fine on all counts.

The debtor slaves are elated that they are freed. All are happy. Beyond that various reactions from a couple of guys ducking out of the scene as quickly as possible to a few others staying around to celebrate and give extra thanks and appreciation, by way of translation.

Gibon and Amit enthusiastically accept a deal on employment as carriers and guides. They can go as far as Goelmorel. Having them follow into Jara Hili to Gelshemish would have to get approval at the final check with magistrates in Goelmorel, but seems entirely possible if desired.

Turning the raiders over to Richter Tecushtan's local court becomes quite a good PR moment. The raiders are seized and locked away. Their trial is scheduled for the following day. Either you guys are there, or if you leave out early the next morning you can do a quick interview with a Dasnishi today to tell him the story, and he will represent at the judgement. It seems like these guys are going to get punishment, and it will be up to and including death.

There are some good supplies on the boat. Especially the captured Korvaran weaponry and shields are valuable. Luckily you guys stashed those in a bin. In a deal, the boat can be covered on docking and security for a month. A couple of boxes are set aside for collateral for another two months, just in case. They won't be taken as payment if you return earlier. Plus Rumyo has some boatsmakers that can fix those few boards that are burned. (It is known that Heshbaans are some of the best carpenters).

That is 90 days. Seems like a reasonable amount of time. Either you come back to depart or send payment back for more time. After 120 days, if the boat is not picked up, it is Rumyo's option to sell it or keep charging the account (to be paid later).

No real takers on liquidating for money. Most of these traders seem to be "cash poor". They think in terms of trading and getting coin and are reluctant to pay out coin unless it is a stingy exchange rate. Also, for the record, there are no Heshbaan platinum coin equivalent, definitely no standardized gems. Most of their coins in circulation are in the form of the silver kesh.

The food at the central supping house is quite good. There are a few other travelers heading to Goelmorel in the morning. It is easy to make a plan to follow one of the other groups. From the sound of it, it takes an early start and a full days steady march to make it there without having to camp once along the way.

You get organized for the evening, get some good hours of rest, and then an early start before dawn. Following along behind a mixture of other fellow travelers, you stay to yourselves but keep the other in sight. There are only a few people who have donkeys and only one horse ridden by a rugged looking middle-aged Heshbaan whose beard is dyed a burgundy tinge with henna.

The countryside is hilly throughout. Near the river it is rich grasslands. As you get further inland, dryness seems to be the trend, yielding rocky plains and scrub woodlands.

Early evening, you pass by some stunning high rising hills with intricate natural rock patterns. You begin to see some permanent structure huts.

Goelmorel is nearby. You will arrive well after dark though. Apparently there is a fire to light the way in a valley ahead.

You have separated yourself away from most other travelers. Some fell to a slower pace several hours past, so you moved past them.

The horseman went on ahead, as did some of the faster groups who were traveling extremely light.

Gibon and Amit know the way, and it is easy to follow the trail and the markings of the other travelers.

Night falls over the land as you are making a last tough hike through this more challenging terrain. You do crest over a final ridge though and you can see a clear evening sky over a large valley that stretches out ahead. In the darkness, you cannot see all of the details of the landscape, but the silhouette of the starry skyline shows that it is a more flattened area in all directions except to the north where there are high ridges.

A collection of fire lights are seen down in the valley. It is the destination of Goelmorel.

The trail is downhill and then flattens, so it is easy enough to follow in this last stretch. In the low ground, you are walking past more and more tall trees. Though nothing yet like a forest, these trees are markedly different from the scrub bushes of the hills you have passed through.

Along the way you hear sounds coming out from the darkness on the road ahead. Listening a little more you can tell that it is the trot of horses. Emerging rather abruptly from the darkness, a set of three armored horsemen approach. They call out in Heshbaan.

The speaker's voice is heavy and authoritative. After a pause, he calls out again in a brief question, rather sharply.

Gibon gives a quick reply (OOC: or maybe Bryn does if Ox says so), and the riders press on further up the road towards the hill that your group just descended.

It is a short walk further. There is a fork in the road. To the right you see a large bonfire, several shelters and tents, quite a few smaller fires, and a dozens if not a hundred or more people separated into small groups. It is a camping and staging area of some sort. The aroma of cooking stews and roasts mix in with the smell of the burning softwoods.

Gibon explains, "This is where Mil Keldat say for us to stay."

The Mil Keldat are the Holy Gilded Armsmen, the elite soldiers of Sar Yokud. They were the riders who just passed in the dark.

Gibon explains, "This is where Mil Keldat say for us to stay."
Kray nods. "Good enough. Let's find a spot on the edge, get a fire going." Addressing the group, he continues. "Let's not get too comfortable gentlemen. We'll take turns minding that fire."

Maeriks sets about gathering brush and wood enough to build a fire and manages to get one going despite the bulk of it still being green wood. He unpacks some of the cooking supplies and a few tins of spice and salt. He takes these under his arm and heads off to walk around the camp grounds, sniffing around for new scents and well prepared meals. He approaches a few carefully, attempting to clearly show that he intends to trade.
OOC:
Hoping to make a few acquaintances (despite language barriers) while trading out some spices for intriguing local flavors.

Maeriks has quick success meeting with the nearby campers. The commoners quickly understand the idea of trading. In the trade, Maeriks gets some great spices including cummin, nutmeg, and even saffron. The neighboring campers, laborers it seems, are talkative and expressive even though there is no language commonality.

Maeriks is able to cook up a great dinner with a new flavor.

The night passes. When morning comes, some of the fellows that Maeriks met on the previous night stop by to say hello. They ask if Maeriks wants to trade for a cage of pheasants. With Bryn's help, he learns that they are looking to trade for any ropes, strong twine, or small tools.

When the visitors talking to Maeriks see that he is surrounded by other well-equipped armed travelers, they seem to get nervous and intimidated. They avert their eyes to the ground and quickly move away. It is clear they do not feel that they have the status to approach the camp of wealthy foreigners. They definitely do not want any trouble.

In the morning light, it is easy to see that there is a big crowd here. There are a variety of people, mostly poor laborers in simple tents or using the provided wooden shelters.

But here and there are larger and more extravagant tents and campsites, housing perhaps merchants or minor noblemen.

Also seen clearly now in the full light of day, the Holy Gilded Armsmen of Gelshemish, called Mil Keldat by the Heshbaans.

They move like sturdy veteran soldiers. Those on horseback seem capable in the saddle. Their bronze armor is immaculate, polished and squared-away and gleaming in the morning sun.

A mounted armsman rides by and stops on his horse. Noticing the group, he looks everyone over, perhaps trying to gauge who to speak with.

"Who is the master of this camp?", he asks. Speaking in accented Yuoric.

Once he gets some sort of answer. "Well met, travelers. You are asked to visit the station of the magistrates this morning, to present your writing and speak of passage if you wish to join the caravan leaving tomorrow morn."

He gives direction to the magistrate station, which is apparently a short walk down a trail leading away from the camp, then salutes and rides away.

The magistrate station is an elaborate luxury tent. Kray and Bryn move forward to present and discuss the preliminary permission of passage through Jara Hili to Gelshemish. The magistrates summon them forward and hear their application. The magistrates are dressed in regal robes and trimmed out in fine trappings.

https://dl.dropbox.com/s/xcllo87rhedx968/Heshbaan%20magistrates.jpg

The interchange goes well with Bryn translating and Kray speaking through his credentials as a nobleman. The passage is granted and approved. Kray gets a writ of decree that allows him as a visiting noble and his entourage to travel to the City of Secrets. They will be allowed to seek lodging in the regent sector of the city and will also be granted a visitation to the Garden Palace of the Sar. They will have a magistrate assigned to receive them and facilitate their exchange.

All members of the visiting party have to be named and their land of origin must be stated.

One caravan will be leaving tomorrow morning, then another will be leaving on the next day. This group is invited to leave with the first group. They should follow the direction of the Gilded Armsmen in all things, because it is the law but also for their own safety.
Jan 2, 2018 8:07 pm
"The first caravan will do." Kray made sure to carry an appreciative tone and demeanor as he nodded with a glance toward Bryn to translate.

Unless for some reason someone is opposed to the first caravan?

Everyone is milling around and preparing. The caravan leaves tomorrow, into the Jara Hili forest.

OOC:
Let me know if there is more prep or talk-through, questions or expansion of detail, any RP we need to address. Get ideas prepared and think through what you are carrying and where on gear, weapons, armor.
Confirm you are taking Gibon and Amit? If so, those packers can carry gear as you guys decide.
It is supposed to be a 2.5 day hike if everyone keeps up the pace, so there will be two camps in the forest.

A clean-robed and sandaled servant comes to the camp site in the afternoon. He asks to deliver a message to Lukrayides Lord Mercon. Upon prompting, he reveals himself as the herald of Sostias Medios, Kurios of Lepidon.
OOC:
Kurios is title of a noble landowner in Pylos. Lepidon is town Kray thinks he has heard of before. It is definitely a Pylosean sounding name for the nobleman and the town.
The Kurios invites Lord Mercon to join him in his tent for dinner, wine, and conversation among traveling nobility. The servant gives directions to the tent. It is on the far side of the camp, and describes the flag and insignia that marks it.
Jan 2, 2018 9:26 pm
Kray considers the invitation.

Gibon and Amit can come unless we have any against it.

Would want at least two bodyguards. Thorn for his Perception and Investigation. Bryn for the translation and hands... if needed.

I wonder ... would Bryn be able to detect poisons in food? Like Kray's taster... all official like.

Some of the laborers whom Maeriks met last night stop by, but at a distance out near the common area. They signal to talk to Amit. He relays the question through Gibon. They ask if Maeriks wants to join for their final camp here in Goelmorel before departure into Jara Hili tomorrow. Tonight they will have a stew and listen to Dread Tales Spoken.

Gibon explains it is a tradition of community sharing of news and stories, many of which feature woe and hardship of others in a life of toil. As strange as it sounds, Gibon says it is supposed to be uplifting and instill courage fortitude and commitment.

Kray (and friends) have been invited to an aristocracy wine and cheese pairing.

Maeriks (and friends) have been invited to a commoner campfire cookout.

Send word if anyone wants to get involved in either event. All for one or the other? Split up? Neither?

Ivor isn't interested in the posh party. Would have been willing to go as bodyguard if Kray had requested it, but looks like Bryn and Thorn are it. Tailgate party with my man Maeriks sounds good. That is, if Maeriks invites Ivor. Take Gibon and Amit along, maybe?
Jan 4, 2018 3:52 am
Kray will go. All are welcome of course. Just wanted to make sure I had Thorn's eyes and Bryn's roguenessi f needed.
