"Fuck!"

Any doubts that these are regular people vanish from Ivor's mind as the stench hits him and smoke comes out of the one Kray downed. He moves to attack the female.

Kray approached the bloodied woman, his demeanor indifferent, Judgement relaxed and low at his side pointed downward lazily. It was a look meant to deceive a foe into thinking Kray was less than ready for combat. Rarely was that the case.

He spoke, his voice minimal, assessing the woman throughout. "Can you speak?"

Worth a shot.

Screw it. I didn't expect an answer anyway ha.

Ivor's trident plunges into the woman's torso once. Twice. On the second hit, her hands grip onto the bar of the trident, and when Ivor pulls it free it pulls her forward and she stumbles down to her hands and knees.

For a moment she stays there and a huge mass of fluid and goo pours out of her mouth. She then tips over onto her back on the floor. It is a horrible scene. She begins to vomit more of this thick substance. And a vapor is rising out of it. The more of the slime that comes out, the more smoke. Soon the smoke is billowing, rolling around on the floor even as it's thinner vapors rise into the room.

The same is happening at the other two bodies: filth is discharging from their throats and abdomen wounds and turning to a gas.

First it is just a single cough, but then someone else coughs as well. Soon everyone in the room is coughing.

Dizziness.

This is a poison filling the room, and the room is a cage.

Required Action: All PCs, CON Save. DC 13
OOC:
I'm prepared for Player frustration. This isn't good. We have to see what happens though. Good luck.

Kray hacks and coughs as the foul vapors enter his lungs, scanning the room for any door or way that appears to be a viable exit.

Fire sounds right to me, as I imagine it would to Kray since fire would have been used to purge the nasty from the battlefield, not to mention any disease situation in an urban environment. You know... when in doubt, burn the bodies and the building.

It starts with a difficulty breathing, followed by dizziness. Your heart starts racing and you begin to sweat from elevated heart rate and stress. Soon a splitting headache sets in, distracting you by the sheer amount of pain. Dizziness progresses to full vertigo. And then the muscle spasms start. Your motor function is degraded and you have to concentrate intensely to move your limbs. The physical stress is exhausting.
OOC:
The characters have been exposed to a potent and dangerous neurotoxin. This brings physiological effects on the body that are in unavoidable to a certain degree. No amount of "toughing it out" can eliminate the effects entirely. The CON Save then becomes your best effort to minimize effects, taking measures to avoid exposure and maintain control and toughness as the effect set in.

Despite this, the physical effects are quite devastating. A true attack on the nervous system that effects performance in almost every way.

So in mechanics...
Save: Take on all effects of 4 levels of exhaustion: Disadvantage Ability Checks, Attack Rolls, Saves. Speed Halved. HP Halved.
(advance note: these aren't necessarily actual levels of exhaustion. We will cross the bridge on recovery later hopefully.)

Fail Save: All above effects plus Paralyzed Condition.

Through all of the smoke, Kray is able to stumble through and see that the north exit from the room, though barred with iron, does have some sort of door like mechanism. It is like a hinged gate that is operated from the other side.
OOC:
Will pause there and write more later. Need to see effects on rest of party yet to roll Save.

Kray fights the shaking and pain in his hands to maintain hold of the torch, the only light source in the room. He shines it at the north gate barricade in an attempt to spot any sort of way out.

The gate is hinged on the other side. Upon closer inspection, it seems there are in fact two gates, or at least one gate built within another.

The larger and more obvious structure is a full sized swinging door, sized nearly five feet across, plenty of room for a man to walk through.

Down low and built into this very same gate door is another hinge bar, one that frames a smaller door within the door. This lower door is from the floor up to about three to four feet and it is thinner, does not go all the way across. It clearly looks to be made for passage of animals or smaller creatures.

The details of the handle and lock mechanisms on the other side are not visible from this angle. There are large metal plates around the handles on the other side. Kray tries to feel with his hand to see if he can reach through. It might be possible, but it is a difficult angle and with the muscle spasms it is proving to be an effort to maintain fine motor control.

The vapors hanging in the air and also billow down on the floor. They obstruct the single torch that is providing light, so those further from Kray are operating in very dark conditions. The clutter of the statues also blocks lines of sight.

It quickly becomes quite difficult to maintain a sense of direction and it is impossible to see much of what is going on past about 10 feet from any position. The torchlight, if further away from that, is more like a subdued glow in a fog.

You can hear the coughs and the moans of pain from your companions all about.

"Help me with this!" Ivor calls to Maeriks. Stowing his trident, the Dannein tries to lift one of the smaller statues with the intent of using it as battering ram against the exit door.

Sizhen, trying to consider how to halt the source of the poisonous gas, inspects the fallen corpses and starts to consider the possibility of igniting them somehow.

The bodies now are fuming with rolling smoke. What were the physical features of the bodies are now very difficult to see and approach. And even the glimpses gained from inspection are quite tough to accomplish because it is closest to the heaviest fumes.

Sizhen sees that the body of the first thin man who was struck down by Trece is now greatly degraded. The body's stomach is now a pile of sludge. His neck appears to be melted away. His chest cage still holds, but the tissue within and outside of it seem to be dissolving gradually as smoke continues to roll out of the wound openings in the torso.

Setting such a pile of deadly toxin on fire now would be a daunting task. Sizhen wonders if it would even be possible.
May 10, 2018 4:19 pm
Kray continues to probe with his hand in an effort to get the door open. "Over here! There's a small door!"

Kray will hold his breath as well.

"Help me with this!" Ivor calls to Maeriks. Stowing his trident, the Dannein tries to lift one of the smaller statues with the intent of using it as battering ram against the exit door.
Ivor tries to tilt one of the statues to find that aside from being extremely heavy, the statue has some sort of crude stabilizer, a large pike that is driven through a hole in the base and into the floor.

Ivor surmises that he may be able to quickly break one loose if he can deliver a thrust with enough force to crack the base enough to begin rocking it back and forth.

Attempt accelerated break on statue anchor: DC 17 on STR Athletics
OOC:
Help Action is possible from someone close to Ivor's STR or with proficiency in STR Athletics.
We don't know yet if Maeriks or Thorn are mobile. Save results still outstanding.
If Ivor can crack the base anchor, it will still take some time, but he could start working it and probably get a statue free to use as a battering ram.
In truth, I think this could be done eventually with enough time, it's just that now time is of the essence, hence the STR Athletics check is what we will use to determine if Ivor can get this in motion on the "fast track" time frame. That is going to be tough under these circumstances. Not impossible, because Ivor is heroically strong, but tough.

What's on the table?

Required:
Thorn CON Save DC 13
Maeriks CON Save DC 13

Optional:
Ivor STR Athletics DC 17: for statue breakage, options given for possible Help Attempted.
Kray WIS Perception DC 14: for deeper inspection of door

Feel free to send any other actions or ideas.

Widening his stance to brace himself, Ivor tries to jerk the statue free.
OOC:
Given the equivalent of Level 4 Exhaustion Ivor would be making the STR check at Disadvantage unless he gets the Help (in which case check would be made normally). Rolling two dice just in case.

Rolls

Athletics vs. DC 17 (possible Disadvantage) - (1d20+8, 1d20+8)

Ivor

The statue stands fast.
OOC:
Jabes, that won't be enough on the roll for a fast break, but as mentioned, Ivor is a big dude and tough so can probably get this done eventually. It will just be a longer time investment. Unknown duration.
